The document provides plans and details for the Kukutana Boutique Hotel in Cape Town, South Africa. It includes floor plans and renderings for the lobby, tea cafe, registration desk, grand staircase, and elevator on the first floor. The second floor plans show a restaurant, bar and lounge, with details of the hostess stand. Design elements incorporate local South African influences like thatched roofs, stacked stone, and tribal art alongside modern finishes. The goal is to create an interior that reflects both the traditional Dutch architecture of Cape Town and the cultural blending of the region.

Goals
Design a building that mimics the traditional
Dutch architecture of Cape Town but also
stands out as a high end boutique hotel
Create an interior space that shocks and awes
all guests who enter with grand fixtures and
finishes and creating intimate meeting spaces
For both overnight guests and local visitors,
create a Restaurant space that showcases a
blend of both traditional Dutch and Zulu
cuisine
For entertainment, create a space that is trendy
with a sophisticated lounge and bar space with
views to the harbor
Design romantic king suites with nods towards
The Big Five (lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard,
rhino) so each room has a different feel,
encouraging guest to return and experience
more of what Kukutana has to offer
Use as many regional sources for an honest
and true design to the area and promote
sustainability

Concept
The Meeting Place
South Africa is a country that sits at the meeting place of elements found in
both nature and culture. Geographically, it is where the Indian and Atlantic
ocean meet and where mountains meet the ocean. Culturally, South Africa
is viewed as a place of opportunity for many other nations in Africa. While
this hotel will cater to international travelers, the design will also welcome
locals with it’s traditional Dutch architecture and fusion of tribal art with a
modern twist. Kukutana or “meeting” in Swahili will be the destination for
all those wanting to experience South Africa.

Green Roof
In an effort for the hotel to practice
more sustainability, the roof of the
porte cochere will be designed to
hold a green rood that will provide
a permeable surface for rain to be
filtered down into the ground below.
Besides it’s practical sustainable use,
the green roof will also help to mask
the roof of the porte cochere and
provide beautiful scenery out the
window of Zulu Bar and Lounge.

Restaurant 30 | 25
Food is a central part of culture and a place where people intentionally come
together to socialize and share a meal together. The Five Star Restaurant on
Kukutan’s second floor is called 30|25 because it represents the latitude and
longitude of Cape Town, South Africa. 30 degrees south and 25 degrees east. In
keeping with the concept of “The Meeting Place”, restaurant 30|25 will greet guest
with high end finishes, dramatic lighting, and built in booth seating that provide
guest with a private and intimate dining experience.
