During his tenure as president Bill Clinton was a vocal advocate for ubuntu. Something he said was, “Let us be our brothers’ keeper” Seeing as most of us are Greek, I think that this takes on a different meaning for most of us. He also mentions that we are our neighbors keeper
We are able to come together as a group to achieve something greater. Ubuntu allows us to do that- we are able to fully understand what it means to be connected to one another. And due to this bond we should embrace Ubuntu so we are able to grow more fully together
Elizabeth Frawley Bagley, a former member of the Office of the Secretary of State, said the following quote "In understanding the responsibilities that come with our interconnectedness, we realize that we must rely on each other to lift our World into a better place
Hillary Clinton has said many times before it take a “village to raise a child, and this is a perfect example how a community comes together to achieve something better. The Ubuntu philosophy has made us, the US, realize that the same mentality needs to be worldwide.
It’s said that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was one of the first Americans to implement an Ubuntu like ideology. Dr. King spoke about civil rights and justice where he said, Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. While this isn’t the EXACT principle of Ubuntu, it was the foreground of this philosophy
“the first part of the phrase, I am what I am, is about finding who you are, what influences you, how you understand yourself, where you think you fit-in in this world It encourages people to applaud rather than resent those who succeed.
The Boston Celticsattributed their 2008 NBA Championship win to this concept. For them, this philosphy puts unity, teamwork, and the best interests of the team above all else. And a quote “Because we see in them the best of who we are. Together, we shall all bring on #18” referring to their goal to win their 18th championship
More often then not, members in your respective organizations have said they were going to do something or they had been instructed to do so, but too frequently the accountability for the action is non-existent. Because of this the entire group fails. Ubuntu can help with that

In the African culture, ubuntu is a word that speaks to our interconnectedness and the responsibility to each other that flows from our connection. To finish this quote, I am what I am because of who we all are, by Layman Bowee, a peace activist. I really think that her statement encompasses all of the aspects mentioned before and allows one to reflect upon this idea
Acknowledging that what we have in common is more important than our differences, this is something that Bill Clinton said. This specifically applies to our positions and our organizations. We have decided that the outcome, the overall success of the group and what we can accomplish is more important than what we disagree on
What this philosophy really means to me is, that no matter how successful you are, or how much you have amassed, or anything that you think that you did that all on your own. That’s wrong, we are all interconnected, and because of someone else we are where we are at today, and because of someone else we have become leaders. Acknowledging that what we have in common is more important than our differences
