PRIMARY SPLICING:
Taught all hands-on instructing, construction and theory aspects of Con- Edison
primary feeders safety procedures, splicing tickets, EO specifications, proper use
of all hand and hydraulic tools, all aspects of primary splicing including lead joint
construction, heat shrinks, 3M mechanical joints, Tyco cold shrinks, Pirelli cold
shrink, potheads, and terminations (5kv, 27kv, 33kv). Hands-on demonstrations
of all aspects of underground primary splicing.
SECONDARY SPLICING:
Taught all hands-on instructing, construction and theory aspects of live
underground secondary splicing, safety procedures, rubber goods, matting,
mains, services, street lighting, limiters, service jumpers, outages, 3 phase
motors, shunts and service restoration, Network phasing out procedures of AC &
DC mains and services and instruction of M&S plates and diagrams reading.
ADDITIONAL CLASSES TAUGHT:
2007 enclosed space entry procedures, including stray voltage.
Sub-surface awareness
FER classes
GUW classes
M&C classes
I&A splicing (student candidate advancement to their “A” title).
C&D faults for all of the above including primary and secondary splicing.
Night Supervisor class, for training of management on the underground
portion of their job.
Training of interns sent to splicing school from field.
Ends testing.
Skill enhancement course for returned splicer.
Created test for Subsurface Awareness Class.
Maintain and storage of all splicing records (REPORT CARDS, OJT’S &
DISMISSAL RECORDS of Student candidates within the Company
Underground and I&A departments.
Education of Hazardous Materials Handler procedure, 2007 enclosed space
entry procedures, including stray voltage, Sub-surface awareness, FER
classes, GUW classes, M&C classes, I&A splicing (for their advancement to
“A” title), C&D faults for all of the above including primary and secondary

splicing. Night Supervisor of Interns sent to splicing school from field, Ends
testing, Skill enhancement course for returned splicer, created test for
Subsurface Awareness Class.
OUTSIDE CONTRACTORS TRAINING:
Clean Ventures & Clean Harbors (Subsurface Awareness).
Boston Electric (Primary Splicing).
Long Island Lighting (5kv & Primary Splicing).
Other additional contractor as they appear.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Setup for student candidate promotions including ready benches with cable,
splicing units, paperwork, splicing tickets, feeder tags and phases.
Maintain Lead Waste program to comply with the one barrel per month
policy.
Maintain oil waste return barrel.
Maintain cable dumpsters.
Assure proper disposal and procedure of all splicing waste materials.
Ordering of new tools approved by engineering department.
Maintain supply and safe operation of all splicing tools in the hands on
courses.
Inventory of hazardous material.
Setup for RED WAGON PROMO’S (Con-Edison-Emergency Restoration
Department) which included the setup of secondary simulated problem
outages for them to find, troubleshoot and repair.
Maintain Cable yard, to insure proper cable on hand as needed.
Oil sampling of new cable and cable existing.
Order cable as needed (primary & secondary).
Maintain all rubber goods including rubber gloves, sleeves, and matting.
Maintain all test equipment including Drager, Test Sticks for ends testing,
phase meter, phasing out boxes and mandated tools and equipment.
Ordering of all GUW’s personal protection equipment.
Ordering of all course books (distribution slicing, secondary splicing, ends
testing, subsurface awareness).
Complete ordering of all material used in splicing school, which includes:
Material splice units, cable, connectors, PPE, cold shrinks, heat shrinks, etc.
To keep the course going without delay and completing on time.
Maintain the lower stock room with material.
Monitored the inventory of all splicing stock and mandated splicing materials.
Ordering of all new material (as needed or required) with allotted money from
department budget. (Keep tabs on the cost of material and maintain the
school to stay in the budget limitations).
Guest speaker for the Night Supervisor class (discussing primary &
secondary splicing, construction of the new 3G Network & the SCADA
SWITCH project, with all new CAM SWITCHES.
BUDGETING TASK: Cost Controller
Inventory of all materials and ordering of new material (as needed) with
allotted money from departmental budget. (Keep tabs of the cost of material
and maintain the school to stay in the budget limitations).

ADDITIONAL SPECIALITY TASK ASSIGNMENTS:
Assisted in the “Excellence File” DVD’s.
Maintain propane working area to coordinate with the New York Fire
Department requirements. (G44 propane handler licensing requirement).
Always to provide for the most cost effective measures to run the splicing
course without the loss of workmanship, including finding alternatives to
purchasing of material.
Conduct tours with other Utilities, City Agencies, Various High Schools,
DEP., Police Department, Fire Department, and at the Con-Edison Learning
Center.
Guest speaking for the Night Supervisor Intern student classes (discussion

Construction of new 3G Network & the SCADA SWITCH project with all new
