5. WHY ARE YOU EXPERIENCING THIS ?

• The flow of warm water inside sewer
pipes causes vapor to escape to the
cooler soil surrounding the pipe. Tree
roots grow towards the vapor. The source
of the vapor is usually a crack in the pipes
or a loose joint.

• Next, it will grow through the opening to reach the
plentiful nutrients and moisture inside. If not disturbed, it
will eventually completely fill the pipe with hair-like root
masses.
• These masses can act as a net as they catch fats, oils,
grease, grit (FOG), tissue paper, and other debris
discharged from the building.
• Sign of trouble is slow flowing drainage system + gurgling
noises from toilet bowls. A complete blockage will occur
if no actions are taken to remove the roots / blockage.
• If roots continue to grow, it exerts considerable pressure
at the crack or joint causing fracture and / or may result
in total collapse of the pipe.
• Severe root intrusion and pipes that are structurally
damaged will require replacement at a very HIGH COST,
eg. Excavation (digging or invasive)

10. STEP 1 – CLEANING the Sewer Network
• The right tools are needed for efficient execution & not disrupt clients’ daily
activities
• Augers, root saws, wires, claw headed rods etc are used to break & open the
clogs in the pipe
• High pressure water jet is used to clear & remove the debris & waste into the
sewer system
• 3000 psi, 15-20 gallons/min flow rate using non heated water with NO
chemicals
• Jetter will resolve clogs, belly (debris accumulation at a low spot) & even at
critical corners and pipe junctions

11. STEP 1 – CLEANING the Sewer Network (con’t)
HOW DOES IT WORK ?
• A hose is moved forward through the sewer line by water streamed
at a specific pressure range
• As the hose returns, the sewer line is cleaned by powerful forward &
reverse jets of water, which washes the debris back for removal
• At 3000psi, the jetter has the capacity to clear tough blockages;
concrete slurry, debris, tree roots, sludge, organic waste, hardened
rubbish etc
• This process is repeated till the sewer line is clear of obstruction and
ready for inspection, which is STEP 2
• Maintenance of this manner will minimize the risk of clogging /
blockages that can result in damaged pipes, deformation, leaks,
propagating cracks which may then require pipe replacement, eg.
Excavation (digging or invasive)

12. STEP 2 – CHECK
WHY DO WE NEED CCTV INSPECTION NOW ?

• Its only wise to repair defects before its too late by identifying defects /
issues via Continuous Preventive Maintenance, especially if the sewer
network is more than 20 years old.

13. STEP 2 – CHECK using ROVION®

• The size, functionality and German cutting edge technology of this sytem offers everything required for pipeline
inspection. The ROVION® system excels through its power, robustness & agility
• The range of application for ROVION® is pipe diameter of 100 - 200mm but is capable up to 2000mm by using different
tractors, elevators and only exchanging the camera head. A total displacement of 200m can be achieved from single point
of entry, providing a clear and wide view into every corner possible.
• The camera has got endless rotation range and pan capability of +/- 135° with 10x optical / 12x digital zoom, intergrated
with laser capabilities to measure the crack widths and to identify degradation of seal leaks, foreign objects, piping
condition etc

14. HOW IS THE CCTV INSPECTION CARRIED OUT ?
• Once STEP 1 – Cleaning is completed, the ROVION® CCTV camera
(Crawler) will be lowered down into the manhole to start the inspection
• Subsequantly towards all the following manholes leading right up to the
final effluent discharge connection point of IWK centralised sewer system
• All basic information of the job and displacement will be noted prior to
the start of the CCTV recording
• Any wreckage or structural damage at the sewerline will be closely
viewed, recorded, measured (if applicable) and interpreted by IKSS CCTV

• The exact condition and location of the defect will be reported to the
client

15. REPORTING STRUCTURE
• Once the inspection is completed with real time imaging of the
structural defects saved, a dedicated software will be used to
generate the report
• Based on the CCTV inspection data, the severity of the damage (if
any) will be shared with the client.
• As described earlier, all required basic information such as time, date,
temp, manhole, station number, nature of inspection & standardized
structural defects based on globally used, Manual of Sewer Condition
will be provided
• Structural defects will be compiled as appendix for the clients perusal
• If the defect requires repair, IKSS CCTV Inspection Services has got

16. CURE IN PLACE PIPE TECHNOLOGY (CIPP)
• Relining the Interior of Pipes With A “Cured In
Place” Epoxy Liner For Sewer Rehabilitation
• Once the CCTV inspection report and images
have been diagnosed and analyzed, next course
of action would be to fix the issue. IKSS CURE IN
PLACE PIPE TECHNOLOGY (CIPP) will restrore the
sewer pipe back in good condition.

• The epoxy liner not only resolves the damage / leak but its STRONGER than the existing
pipe structure, robust and longer lasting for the future
• In the past, the process of locating the correct displacement of the damage / fracture,
halting clients production or daily activity for the repair work, excavation, manpower,
traffic control etc is just cumbersome. Not forgetting COST
• With the new NON INVASIVE CIPP technology, sewer pipes can be repaired completely
underground without the removal and clearing of trees & structures that may be in the
path
• Non invasive technology is rapidly becoming the preffered method of rehabilitating aging,
failing underground sewer infrastructure for cities, towns and buildings
17. HOW IS Trenchless Sewer Relining With CIPP
DONE ?
• Sewer Relining with CIPP is the process of lining the interior of
the old sewer line from one small access point
• Done with a new flexible and seamless PVC infused liner to
seal all cracks, voids, as well as bridge gaps
• Once the old sewer line is cleaned of roots, grease and dirt it
is now ready to recieve the new liner. The liner is first
saturated with environmentally approved epoxy resin to 100%
saturation and then it is blown into the old pipe using high
pressure air
• Once the liner is in place, a bladder is then insterted and
inflated with hot, high pressure steam that molds the new
liner to the interior of the old sewer pipe
• Once the liner is cured, the bladder is removed leaving behind
a brand new super strong pipe within a pipe that is stronger
than the original pipe and because it is seamless it is now
highly resistant to future root intrusion, the leading cause of
sewer line failures

1. Epoxy is precisely mixed by
weight. Next its ‘wet out’ - pouring
the epoxy onto the fiberglass layers

polyethylene sheet to make it fully
watertight and prevent epoxy

• Preventive Maintenance or PM as commonly known is maintenance that is
regularly performed to reduce the risk of it failing
• PM is performed whilst SEWERAGE PIPE / NETWORK is still in use, so that :
• It does not fail unexpectedly
• Damages / fractures / clogs / obstructions are identified much earlier
• Necessary steps are taken to ensure CLIENTS’ Productivity is not
affected
• Otherwise, the unexpected failure and repair will only result in heavy
repair work + high COST
