Leak Detection System :-
• A leak detection system monitors the flow of water
through a pipeline.
• When abnormal behavior is detected, the system cuts
off the water flow to the entirety of the household by
closing a valve within the leak detector.
• Leak detection systems are usually installed at the
water's point of entry into the home.
Effects of Leakage :-
• The most obvious and immediate effects of water damage
are aesthetic – staining, discoloration, and streaks along the
walls an some others are like Drives Down Property Values,
Mold and Fungal Growth in the area, Structural Damage,
Sagging Walls or Ceiling .
Why Water Leaks Occurs?
• Water leaks frequently happen because of water hammer, extreme
pressures ,corrosion or aging plumbing.
Water Hammer :-
Water hammer is a phenomenon that can occur in any piping
system where valves are used to control the flow of liquids or
steam. Water hammer is the result of a pressure surge that
propagates through a piping system when a fluid in motion is
forced to change direction or stop abruptly.
Extreme Pressure:-
water pressure that's too high is difficult to contain, and could leak to
plumbing leaks, worn seals, and damaged fixtures. It could even
shorten the lifespan of your appliances that depend on a water
connection like your washing machine, ice maker, dishwasher, and
more.
Methodology used for Water Detection system:-
A leak detection system should be installed at the earliest possible
point of entry in your household plumbing. All water-using appliances
and water heaters should be downstream from the leak detector.
Small-to-Medium Systems
• Leak detection technology for service lines in a distribution systems
that supply water to a single building or a small set of buildings. These
include:
• Noise loggers
• Listening sticks
• Hand-held thermal imaging.
Large Systems
Leak detection technology for main lines in a distribution
system that can supply water throughout a large campus
•In-pipe sensors
•Fiber optics
•Satellite
•Ground penetration
•Drone-operated thermal imaging.
How do I install a leak detection system?
Spec Check
• Your pipes should be a half-inch to 1 inch wide, with a quarter-turn
ball shutoff valve and 4½ inches of space around it.
Secure the Shutoff
• Clamp the shutoff unit onto the pipe so that the center fork fits on the
valve. Plug in the power adapter.
Place the Sensors
• Connect to the app and WiFi, then place water sensors by sinks,
toilets, and water heaters.
The Water Monitor also employs ultrasonic technology to observe the
behavior of the water flow and will alert you to irregularities via the in-
phone app.
Leak detection systems for the whole house cost between $500-$2,500,
depending on the system that is installed. Some homeowners may need to
hire a plumber to install the system. Depending on the length of the
installation and the hourly rate of the plumber, this can add another $200-
$500 to the installation costs.
Benefits of Water Detection System:-
• It's precise. Leak detection doesn't just locate the general area of the
leak—it detects the exact location, so we won't have to dig around for
the problem.
• Restricts the growth of Mold and other infection which helps to
protect the property.
• Save unnecessary wastage of water and thus save the Environment.
