This is one of my content pages I've designed for the Camden Horse. Designing the page started off as a challenge as I was asked to incorporate the photo, table of contents and a column all on the same page. The design came together nicely and I particularity enjoyed playing off of the pink and green color scheme from the photo.

his year, more than most,
we all seem to be look-
ing forward to the arrival
of spring and the return to the
warm temperatures that signal
bright sunny days are approach-
ing. We are ready for the weather
to change from the cold and wet
dreariness of late to the mild and
salubrious days we are accus-
tomed to here in Camden.
Of course, we really have
nothing to complain about as
we have had no snow to speak
of unlike all our friends up North which leads me to
recognize, once again, why horse owners/trainers re-
ally like sending their horses here to winter. Yes, we
have perfect conditions for our horses to take to their
daily workouts. They have no snow to contend with,
no below zero temperatures, and geographically, we
have sandy soils with planned drainage for good foot-
ing. We aren’t referred to as the Sandhills area for
nothin’.
Our horses in residence are able to hack through
familiar woods to a variety of well-kept tracks to take
to their daily exercise workout routines on schedule.
No boredom of always being on the same track be-
cause here in Camden a variety of venues are used
to school our winter horses to keep them in tip-top
shape both mentally and physically. They do well
here and “get ready for business” when their day at
the races is scheduled.
We are fortunate to have this situation here be-
cause of the foresight of some of our former citizens
who gifted and bequeathed usage of facilities just for
this purpose. We always think of the generosity of
Mrs. Marion duPont Scott at this time of year when
the Carolina Cup rolls around, but there have been
more who have contributed so much to the quality of
life in our town.
We hope you will enjoy reading about one such cou-
ple, Austin and Sally Brown, who are our cover story
in this Carolina Cup edition. They are some of the
most gracious people you will ever have the opportu-
nity to know. And they made Camden a better place
for choosing to live here. Yes, we are looking forward to
welcoming many friends and relatives back home for the
83rd running of The Carolina Cup and wish you a great
day at the races! Don’t forget to check us out online at
www.thecamdenhorseandequestrian.com to share this
magazine and all the stories and ads with your friends.
The pages turn just like you are holding the
magazine in your hands.
See you at the races,
