1. EDITING
CAMERA SHOTS/ANGLES/MOVEMENT
They did a wide shoton the roof which establishes the scene of san francisco. A lot
of the shots are Verism (point of view following). They do a lot of perspective
shots as we see from the main characters view as he follows his friends wife. When
every in the car we normally have a close up on the driver, this could be because of
the limits that the technology had to have the cgi out sided the car. There is a
establishing shot when walks up to the mansion
SOUND
The scoreis very curious as it is sutlers and light but has sinister moments of
powerful music, this evolves into some very suspenseful sense where the music
becomes very intense and frenetic. The scoreis normally quit strange and strung
out(string instruments)
THEMES & MOTIFS

2. The man character suffers from acrophobia (fear of living the house) and vertigo
(fear of heights)
SYMBOLIC CODES (including enigma and binary opposites)
The opening has spinning and falling, in the first scene when the chase occurs the
man gets to the edge and the ground seems so far away this is foreshadowing the
mans mental problems in the future (vertigo). The red filter foreshadows the death
that is about to happen (red=blood)

Are people truly who they are “can you determine a bookby its cover”
LIGHTING
The lighting is mostly made for the scene so out sided bright dimmer inside.
Chiaroscuro is the contrastof light and dark lighting in the same scene.
Art gallery, Scottie in the dark and Madeleine in the light.
NARRATIVE
Its no linear narrative so it jumps from setting and time, this type of narrative
makes the film a bit harder to follow but

3. CHARACTERS
REPRESENTATION
The dress colour changes that the woman has seem to go with the changes with her
mind and memorise, the dresses seem to represent the changes she goes through
SETTING & MISE-EN-SCENE
The woman is wearing green which makes her stand out and acknowledge by the
audience as the rest of the characters are in black. She changes when she enter the
flower shop were she is wearing a grew “suit” which contrast the suit. We have a
lot of distance shots and nature shots, e.g. the sea could be a metaphor for the
uncontrollable and for things which go on beneath the surface (calm on top, rough
beneath)
MOOD & TONE
Its mostly very suspenseful as week get the feeling that we don’t know whats
happening (Veorism)
