Hi, Jerry.
I'm writing this letter of thanks not only because I was asked but because I worked with a group of
exceptional people for an exceptional task.
Simply, WCB I/T was asked to send/FTP survey filed to Advanis. At this point, the task was simple and
sounded as if only a few days were needed.
Once work was started, a lot of steps were needed:
1. Access to the Advanis remote FTP server
2. Access through the Firewall
3. A new FTP batch script to handle differences in FTP implementations
4. File locations
5. TIDAL jobs for automation
6. Security; not only for the BI team to create survey
7. Management support to bend existing processes.
As you can see, a lot of people and time was needed to complete the task.
I hope the list above is complete, but, I'm sure I've missed something; please, do not feel smitten, rather,
I'd like to add anything and anyone that was missed to my list.
Now, I'm going to thank everyone as I recall for the work done on my behalf to complete the task of
sending WCB BI Surveys to Advanis:
1. Ricardo
Ricardo was involved from the very first step with me.
Initially, Ricardo resolved all issues with connecting to Advanis with the provided user id and
password.
I'm sure Ricardo involved Scotty to make the needed Firewall changes to allow WCB TIDAL to connect
to Advanis.
TIDAL WS FTP Pro could not connect to Advanis. Ricardo investigated and found that Advanis SFTP
was expecting a userid and password to be entered. TIDAL works in passive mode, not active mode.
Ricardo worked with Brian CAVENY of Advanis. An SSH certifcate was created by Ricardo and
installed by Brian at Advanis. Now, TIDAL can connect to Advanis in passive move; allowing for full
automation.
Most importantly, Ricard had to replicate his efforts in Development and Certification. The project
initially started in Production but was moved through our Application Processes of Development,
Certification and Production. This was a lot of work for Ricardo, but in hindsight, allowed me to
develop the FTP script correctly.
Ricardo was still involved in the end. Security needed to be set up for BI to place the surveys in TIDAL
folders.
Ricardo had shown me that not only did I need to have the correct security to list parent folders but the
target directory needed to allow BI access to create files and sub-folders.
Ricardo stayed late and tested with Jenny; the collaboration allowed the access issue to be solved
quickly.
2. Brian, Advanis
Brian accepted the changes WCB needed to automate our process: SSH Certifcates.
I felt Brian worked hand-in-hand with Ricardo to come up with a secure solution.
3. Geoffrey
Geoff is always willing to help.
2. Thank you, Everyone.
Your efforts were very much appreciated …

In particular, Geoff worked through a problem where TIDAL was having trouble accessing Certification
surveys.
Geoff re-checked the security for and explained how security is being managed by Network Admin.
In short, Geoff confirmed that security was set correctly to TIDAL to access the surveys. Geoff
recreated the survey files and the problem went away.
4. Parul
Parul helped me with all my file moves.
Parul corrected my ambiguities so that later requests can be done quickly.
Parul also kept resetting my certification survey files. I simply sent an email and the files were
recreated (the user request is to delete the survey once successfully sent to Advanis …).
Parul was very patient with my certification testing; I know these interruptions took Parul away from her
regular work.
5. Kristen
I sometimes wonder if Kristen knows what I want to do before I ask for it …
Kristen always completed my requests quickly; sending both emails and jabbers …
6. Ryan B.
Ryan was there for me when Geoff was not.
Ryan answered all my security related questions patiently.
I know sometimes my questions seemed simple but I did need to know how to create the access
implementation request correctly.
7. Daryl
Daryl has always been patient and helpful.
Right from the beginning before I was assigned the task, Daryl was always available to answer my
questions.
Daryl realized the problem of application process and user request.
In the end, Applications followed the process and the user request is complete …
8. Jerry
Jerry quickly corrected the situation where development was happening in Production.
In hind sight, Jerry's insistence that process be followed saved time; there was a lot of work to get
TIDAL and the FTP script working correctly.
Developers have access in Development to make changes quickly; this is not possible in production.
Jerry was involved from the beginning to the end; the process did work correctly with a few pushes.
9. Patrick
Patrick answered all of my questions; questions either sent by email/jabber or my visits.
Again, the questions seemed simple, but, I needed to know exactly what was needed.
Patrick answered all of my questions promptly …
10. Juanita
Juanita supported both Jerry and I with the decisions made.
In particular, Juanita supported Jerry fully when Jerry explained most, if not all, the changes that were
needed simply from an application point of view.
3. Thank you, Everyone.
Your efforts were very much appreciated …

Janita's support allowed the Advanis FTP task to complete smoothly and successfully, 8 days ahead of
schedule.
11. Phyllis
Phyllis is a very good listenter; I know, I can talk too much …
Phyllis allowed me to 'speed-up' the application move process; Phyllis realized that the change did not
require any outage.
I very much appreciated the effort.
12. Jenny
Jenny had the patience to wait while applications went through the process to set up the infrastructure
to send surveys to Advanis.
At the end, Jenny set up an ad-hoc request to test BI access to TIDAL. After a couple of tweaks by
Ricardo, the surveys were placed correctly in the TIDAL folders.
13. Kevin and Victor
Both Kevin and Victor have project work to complete; I have application move requests that need
approval.
Kevin and Victor took the time to approve all the application move requests to complete my task (yes,
each evironment had a few requests going to different people in each environment).
14. Adam and Lois
Lois explained how I can assign one of the SDAs to do a TIDAL promotion; I just phone and ask who
is working the desk this week.
Adam did all my requests through TIDAL Transporter.
Adam allowed me to check the moves; for some reason, Transporter was not moving all job
properties.
I checked the jobs; any missing job properties were added manually.
Adam spent time away from his work to allow me to tweak the Transporter moves to Certification and
Production.
I had difficulty creating the move as I don't have access to Transporter to see what needs to be set
and what wasn't moved.
Adam was patient and explained any problems that he ran into; Adam accepted my coaching and all
TIDAL jobs were moved successfully.
I hope I've not missed anyone; if I have, please come forward and I'll update the list.
My work was very much simplified by the efforts of many. I simply focused on creating a custom batch
FTP script for TIDAL jobs.
I am not much on 'Thank You!', but, I do very much appreciate all the work and time dedicated to
helping me complete the task.
Again, thank you one and all for all your help, time and most important of all, all the work done to
complete this task.
Yours sincerely,
Ted NOGA, SD III
