First impressions yu’s yureka smartphone
1. First Impressions- YU’s Yureka
smartphone
Micromax today officially introduced the first smartphone under its online brand- YU,
known as Yureka. The device has been launched at a very competitive and effective
price point of Rs 8,999, especially when you take a look at the device and its
innards. Yureka comes through the online channel and will have no offline presence.
It has been launched by YU in partnership with Cyanogen, who is its software
partner.
The device is optimised using the Cyanogen OS that is primarily based on Android,
but the experience is a lot different. The sales model for this low cost and high on
features smartphone will be similar to Xiaomi’s and One Plus One (A Cyanogen
device that has just been banned in India). The buyer will have to first register for the
phone and then a week (or days) later; a sale will be conducted on Amazon.in where
one can order a Yureka smartphone. Yes, the phone will be exclusively available on
Amazon.in and so will be the other upcoming YU devices, as per the current plan.
2. Look and Feel
Now, looks and design of a smartphone is something that gives its users the very
first impression. It has to be catchy and attractive enough to engage the user and
should be able to push him to go further. When I first held Yureka smartphone in my
hands, my first reaction was –“It is so light!!”. The device sports a 5.5-inch display
and comes into the phablet category but it felt really light and the grip was pretty
strong, thanks to its Moonstone finished back panel that game the device a rubberish
feel.
Then comes the buttons and slots. The power button on Yureka smartphone rests on
the right edge and can be reached with your thumb. The volume rocker is placed at
the left edge while the microUSB sits at the bottom edge and 3.5-mm jack at the top.
Once you flip over the device, you’ll find a 13-megapixel camera on the top left
corner that is accompanied by an LED flash and on the right side of it, is a mic for
noise cancellation. Next follows the speaker that can be spotted at the bottom side of
the panel. In the centre shine the YU logo embellished on the panel.
Software and UI
YU branding takes a different route from Micromax devices because of its Cyanogen
OS 11. This new online brand has joined hands with Cyanogen for optimization OS
and extensive experience. We spent a little time with the device and found the UI to
be pretty intriguing. However, Cyanogen uses Android as its core operating system
and then works around it to provide users with a better and even more developed
OS.
The device comes with a theme system that changes the look and feel of your
device to an entirety. For now, YU is offering only two free schemes, but users are
open to buy more from the store.
3. The UI felt easy and a lot similar to Google’s Android. SO someone using an Android
device will not face any problem with Yureka’s Cyanogen OS. Also the firm has
promised Android 5.0 Lollipop based build.
Hardware
Yu has left no stone unturned to hook users’ attention to its Yureka smartphone. The
device is packed with some really good hardware, including a 64-bit Qualcomm
Snapdragon 615 chipset with 1.5GHz octa-core CPU and Adreno 405 GPU, 2GB of
RAM, 16GB ROM (expandable), 5.5-inch display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3
coating, 13-megapixel primary camera, 5-megapixel front camera, 2,500 mAh
battery, dual SIM capabilities and much more.
On the connectivity front, the device supports, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G LTE.
This is some of the few phones in India that comes with a LTE band.
Since we got hold onto the device for a few minutes, a detailed walk through couldn’t
be done with all its features. We’ll soon publish a detailed review for you get a better
insight about Yureka smartphone.
Early Verdict
As we’ve already expressed that our encounter with Yureka was a short one and we
couldn’t experience the overall features of the device. But whatever time we spent
with the device, it didn’t fail to woo us.
The device is sleek and light. It feels like nothing despite its big screen size. The
Cyanogen interface also feels friendly and easy to use. The performance seemed
4. efficient with zero lags and We tried our hands onto its 13-megapixel camera which
performed really well with intensive detailing and radiant colours.
Here are a few sample images shot through the Yureka lens.
