Kylie's Visual Vocab.

  1. 1. IDEOLOGY<br /><br />Your ideas about the world and your surroundings which influence your life.<br />An example of ideology may be someone’s perspective on human nature and reincarnation.<br />
  2. 2. INDIVIDUALISM<br />Individualism is the independence and uniqueness from other people. <br />An example of individualism is moving out when your at age, and having independence from your parents. <br /><br />
  3. 3. COLLECTIVISM<br /><br />The idea that the thoughts of a group will be more beneficial than that of an individual.<br />An example of collectivism is donating money to charity. Someone who is wealthy helping the less fortunate to survive.<br />
  4. 4. LIBERALISM<br /><br />The idea that an individual freedom is more beneficial than that of a group.<br />An example of this is the liberal party in Canada.<br />
  5. 5. SELF-INTEREST<br /><br />A person’s own interest to do well or not to do well in their life.<br />Someone’s self-interest may be to go out and get a good job, rather than to sit on the couch and do nothing.<br />
  6. 6. COMPETITION<br />Wanting to overcome your opponent<br />An example of this is any type of sport, where both teams are trying to win. <br /><br />
  7. 7. FREEDOM<br /><br />Is the ability to do and think whatever you want without anyone telling you otherwise.<br />Freedom of speech is an example of freedom.<br />
  8. 8. RULE OF LAW<br /><br />A rule that everyone is equal and has a right to the law.<br />An example is when you violate a traffic law, and run a red light. You are obligated to pay the ticket.<br />
  9. 9. PRIVATE PROPERTY<br /><br />An area that is your own and you are entitled to rule that area.<br />An example of private property is my house. My parents own and rule that certain area.<br />
  10. 10. COLLECTIVERESPONSIBILITY<br /><br />Is holding a group responsible for and of the groups actions<br />Everyone in this group is responsible for everyone’s actions because nobody stopped it.<br />
  11. 11. COLLECTIVEINTEREST<br /><br />When a group of people have something in common. <br />This group of people all share the interest in soccer.<br />
  12. 12. COOPERATION<br /><br />Working together as a group to accomplish a task. <br />When a team of construction workers work together to build a building.<br />
  13. 13. ECONOMICEQUALITY<br /><br />When people in society are equal to that of their economies wages<br />For example, as an employee I have the right to get paid minimum wage<br />
  14. 14. COLLECTIVENORMS<br /><br />A behavior you expect from a group or a person.<br />An example of collective norms is when you expect people to just walk by homeless people.<br />
  15. 15. PUBLICPROPERTY<br /><br />Something that is not owned by an individual.<br />An example of public property is Lacombe Composite High School which is owned by the Alberta government.<br />
  16. 16. BELIEF<br /><br />An idea that an individual has that influences their life. <br />Some individuals have the belief that God is real while others do not.<br />
  17. 17. VALUE<br /><br />Something a person desires which influences their life.<br />I value my friendship with all of my friends. They influence my life in a major way.<br />
  18. 18. INDIVIDUALIDENTITY<br /><br />An identity that you yourself create, that a parts you from everyone else.<br />An example of individual identity may be your fashion, and how you present yourself. Lady Gaga chose to personalize herself by wearing meat.<br />
  19. 19. COLLECTIVEIDENTITY<br /><br />An identity you share with a group of people.<br />A Baptist church shares the identity of being Christian.<br />
