12. My Last
Tips:
Networking is crucial.
12
Go to event. Meet people. Immediately connect on LinkedIn.
“Jose, it was great to meet you tonight! I was so interested to learn
about your __. Hope we can stay in touch!”
See job posting. Search for any contacts you have at that company.
“Hi Amani, It’s been so long! I see that you are now __ - Congrats! I
am reaching out because I saw a __ position open at __. I am __[brief
pitch]__. Do you think this might be a good fit? (or) Do you know
someone in that area I could talk to?”
Write and memorize a 30 sec. pitch. Pack a (casual) punch.
• What you are interested in/ looking for.
• Your selling points.
• End with a question (so it flows into conversation).
• What do you think?
• Do you have any tips for me?
• Does that type of role exist at your company?
My name is Taylor and this is JiJi the penguin
If you have ever seen Jiji the penguin walk across a screen, then you were most likely using math software designed by the MIND Research Institute.
MIND Research – edtech nonprofit – we build math software based on the neuroscience of how kids learn. Our math software is entirely visual
What is a BSA?
Think about the stereotypical software developer. Pretty introverted, pretty focused on coding and technical skills. Wears a hoodie. Works in a dark basement. Likes to geek out.
Now picture that developer working with senior level executives who are trying to communicate what they want built in the software. So, we have people who love to come up with these big ideas paired with someone who loves to geek out about code. Are you starting to see a problem?
Go-between+
MIND employees remote – which means that my family is able to move for my husband’s job, which just this summer brought us from Columbus, Ohio out here to Ephraim UT.
I also happen to be a doctoral candidate in business administration – finished coursework, now working on my dissertation.
General career advice, then go into how software development works, and what a business analyst does.

Not Faith and Family – what drives you as an individual.
Me: Love of Humanity, Courageous Honesty, Wisdom & Learning
There are a million different paths you can take around a jungle gym and they will all give you different views!
And most people won’t get to “the top” – you can have a meaningful career that provides for yourself and your family without having to be at “the top"
Waterfall – everything goes in order. Plan the work, and you work the plan.
Agile – philosophy for project management that emphasizes breaking the project into small pieces, testing it, showing it to customers, and then reiterating.
