2. PROCEEDING:
The journey started from Chilas to Darel with the Directives of Deputy Director Agriculture
Diamer, Chilas for the unloading and storage of the seed potato at Gumari. The seed potato
procured for VPG Yashoot /Bayardi by the procurement committee in the presence VPG
representative a local farmer Mr. Wali Khan (Ex. Sobidar).
Deputy Director Agriculture Diamer Chilas deputed the following officer/official to execute the
said activity as under;

A. Activities accomplished on this visit are as under:
1. Sanitation of the storage facility
2. Potato seed bags stacking in the store
3. Counting of Potato bags for verification of quantity shared by authorities
4. Arrangement for proper aeration

3. Sanitation of the storage facility at Gumari:
On arrival at Gumari Nursery inspection and Selection of the room for storage done , as we had
to receive 12 Ton of seed potato seed about 480 bags of 25 Kg each for VPG Biyardi and
Yashoot.
The condition of selected room found
unhygienic for seed storage of potato.
Therefore, thorough sanitation done on
first preference and all crevices and
holes sealed that rats and other pest
might not enter into the storage facility.
To avoid the infestation of the rodent
pest pesticide bits applied on ways
rodent expected might get enter into
room. Some arrangements for proper
aeration, ventilation and maintenance of temperature made, including installment of fan etc.
Receiving of seedpotato at Gumari:
On the next day truck Driver Naushad and Truck No.GLT 5674 arrived at Gumari Nursery and
unloading of the potato seed done by the labor already been arranged. The activity carried out
carefully to avoid any miss carriage
of the potato seed bags. Moreover,
during this activity, some already
tore bags and injured potato found
due to some miss carriage might
happen on loading unloading by
transporter.

4. Stacking ofSeedpotato and counting for verification:
The next activity accomplished was the stacking of the seed potato bags in the store. The
stacking of the bags done along the wall of the room up to nine layers each and two lines of bags
stacked in middle of room. Spaces left
in between the rows for aeration and
free movement for counting and
inspection purpose. Counting of bags
and marking of each bag with
permanent marker done for verification
of shared quantity with received
quantity.
Due to less space available to store 12
ton potato more bags piled up to
accommodate all 480 bags in that one
room, may cause rotting effect in the
lower tier of potato bags, experiencing
more weight as recommended.
Condition of the seedpotato on receiving:
The condition of potato at the time of receiving was normal no sprouting found. There found
some tore bags and some injured potatoes with fungus attack evidenced on injuries that can be
seen in Fig. It was perhaps miscarriage by the transporter on transfer of some of bags from truck
to Wagon to lessen the weight while crossing the Darail Bridge on river Indus at Shatiyal. The
condition may worsen by gradually increasing in temperature and intense stacking cause:
 Rapid weight loss
 Increase Fungus Infestation
 Sprouting of seed
 Rotting effect in lower most
layers of bags.

5. Recommendation:
Following are the some recommendation must be under consideration on first priority basis;
1. The distribution and disbursal of seed potato recommended on immediate basis.
In the light of condition of seed potato reported on receiving.
2. Training of farmers should be arranged on first preference for best output.
3. Provide some kitchen and bedroom belongings for set up of guest room in building of
Gumari Nursery Darail, it is a key necessity for carryout smooth activities during over
night stay of officials. Detailed list of requirements will be provided upon request.
