INTRODUCTION
The Travel guide of the spa resorts is suitable and useful for schools, librar-
ies, travel agencies and institutions working in the field of education and tourism.
Schools could use the guide in their English and Geography lessons, in project based
classes or extra curriculum activities. Libraries, as information centers, could pro-
vide information to their readers and communities. Since there isn’t available infor-
mation concerning some of the resorts in native languages on the Internet, this Guide
would be a good instrument for Travel agencies to promote the spa resorts.
Aims of the guide
The Travel Guide of the spa resorts has been created due to the experience and
through the researches of the teachers who took part in the activities of the project
Water in Our World. It aims to promote the spa resorts and water-related topics to
regional partners and organizations, to create positive attitude towards water issues
among the schools` communities. The guide gives you relevant and up to date infor-
mation on not so common travel destinations around Europe. Once a non-English-
speaking visitor is well acquainted and ensured with information about the spa re-
sorts in his native language and convinces himself to see the venues that the Guide
advertises and promotes, it should be easy to him to plan and prepare his trip.
Description of the guide
The Travel Guide of the spa resorts is a post product and a result of Activity 4 –
Water and Tourism – set in February 2017 in the project agenda. Students from the
schools in Bulgaria, Italy, Lithuania, Portugal, Turkey and Poland searched for infor-
mation about famous spa resorts in their own countries and prepared presentations
or videos of spa resorts. Teachers in charge of the project from each partner schools
completed information, shared presentations on the project web page with other part-
ners and created a list with the spa resorts. The list of the spa resorts was translated
into English, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Turkish, Italian and Bulgarian.
The Guide guarantees the sustainability and results dissemination of the
project WOW and promotes its activities. It also shows the achievements, posi-
tive outcomes and products which were gained through the stages of the project.
The guide also presents a list of tips and ways of travelling to the resorts as
well as possible accommodation, which could be useful for European organi-
zations which promote spa and Wellness tourism.
The Travel Guide is divided into seven parts and contains:
Part 1 – Spa resorts in English
Part 2 – Translation of the spa resorts in Bulgarian
Part 3 – Translation of the spa resorts in Italian
Part 4 – Translation of the spa resorts in Lithuanian
Part 5 – Translation of the spa resorts in Polish
Part 6 – Translation of the spa resorts in Portuguese
Part 7 – Translation of the spa resorts in Turkish

ITALY
Italy has been defined by writers, poets and travellers the “Bel Paese”,
due to the union among beautiful landscapes, artistic wealth, natural resourc-
es and mild climate. In the ancient Romans, the SPAs were important centres
for meeting and socializing. Even during the Arab domination, especially
in the South of Italy, the use of precious groundwater, within the spa have
played an important cultural and religious role.
Nowadays they have assumed the more general role of wellness centers,
with or without a thermal source, and the meaning of the acronym word “SPA”
is linked precisely to the Latin term “salus (or sanitas) per aquam” (or per
aquas), that is, “health through water” (or waters).
However, the term “SPA” comes from a toponym: the name of the Belgian
spa town, located in the province of Liège, rich in thermal springs, known as
the spa center in Roman times and became popular especially since the fif-
teenth century.
Due to the extensive mountain chains of the Alps and the Apennines and
thanks to the presence of secondary volcanic activity in several Italian regions,
the “Bel Paese” is dotted with numerous accommodation facilities that use
thermal waters as a source of care and wellbeing.

Thermal Pools Mszczonów
Thermal Pools Mszczonów are in
a convenient location, because Mszc-
zonów is situated between two largest
Polish cities – Warsaw and Lodz (45 km
from Warsaw and 90 km from Lodz).
In 1976 a well was drilled to search
for new oil deposits. During the tests,
water with a temperature of 22 to 24
degrees Celsius was found. However, no oil or gas was found in quantities that
could be extracted. In 1992, the local government authorities decided to take
a closer look at the geothermal hole
existing in the city, making the recon-
struction of the well after 20 years from
its completion. Then the temperature of
this water was a determined (from 25◦C
to 75◦C). In 2008, the time has come to
use the Mszczonów thermal waters in
recreational facilities. The opening of
the Thermal Pool Complex took place
in June 2008.
36
WATER PROPERTIES
 Thermal waters are located at a
depth of 1602,5 m. The water flowing out
of one borehole is characterized by:

ter measured on the surface is + 42 ° C;
The total mineralization of thermal
water is 459.79 mg with the predomi-
nance of calcium and magnesium bicarbonates;
The pH of the water is 7.6.
Exercises performed in water due to the buoyancy force are easier and the
heat released by water causes the minerals contained in it to penetrate better into
the skin. The heat of geothermal waters provokes congestion and normalizes tis-
sues, the circulation improves, the painfulness of muscles and joints decreases.

that will surprise you. The most original place to spend the night is a room in a
historic mill – a windmill. Price per night, which will please both couples and

places of this type in Poland. In its
range it offers many forms of rest and

WATER PROPERTIES
Water in the basins of Bialczanska Termal Baths is a mineral water, which
thanks to the energy of the Earth, reaches a high temperature, which makes it
thermal water. It contains: sulphides, silica, potassium, calcium, magnesium
and iron.
High temperature and slightly acidic pH make it easier for the body to
absorb these valuable substances. Baths in thermal water: reduce stress
levels, facilitate relaxation and restore psychophysical balance, improve
blood pressure and metabolism, support weight loss, eliminate headaches
for insomnia, accelerate convales-
cence, eliminate skin diseases and
imperfections, significantly improv-
ing its appearance
WHAT CAN WE DO THERE:
Composing the Bania Baths of-
fer, special attention was paid to the
youngest. Families with children were dedicated to one of the parts of the
facility – the Play Zone. The kids can go crazy with their parents here, and
there are plenty of places to do that. Smiles do not disappear for a moment
from the face of our youngest guests, and parents relax much better know-
ing that their kids are playing really well.

PART 2 – TRANSLATION OF THE SPA RESORTS
IN BULGARIAN

  • 5. 5 INTRODUCTION The Travel guide of the spa resorts is suitable and useful for schools, librar- ies, travel agencies and institutions working in the field of education and tourism. Schools could use the guide in their English and Geography lessons, in project based classes or extra curriculum activities. Libraries, as information centers, could pro- vide information to their readers and communities. Since there isn’t available infor- mation concerning some of the resorts in native languages on the Internet, this Guide would be a good instrument for Travel agencies to promote the spa resorts. Aims of the guide The Travel Guide of the spa resorts has been created due to the experience and through the researches of the teachers who took part in the activities of the project Water in Our World. It aims to promote the spa resorts and water-related topics to regional partners and organizations, to create positive attitude towards water issues among the schools` communities. The guide gives you relevant and up to date infor- mation on not so common travel destinations around Europe. Once a non-English- speaking visitor is well acquainted and ensured with information about the spa re- sorts in his native language and convinces himself to see the venues that the Guide advertises and promotes, it should be easy to him to plan and prepare his trip. Description of the guide The Travel Guide of the spa resorts is a post product and a result of Activity 4 – Water and Tourism – set in February 2017 in the project agenda. Students from the schools in Bulgaria, Italy, Lithuania, Portugal, Turkey and Poland searched for infor- mation about famous spa resorts in their own countries and prepared presentations or videos of spa resorts. Teachers in charge of the project from each partner schools completed information, shared presentations on the project web page with other part- ners and created a list with the spa resorts. The list of the spa resorts was translated into English, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Turkish, Italian and Bulgarian. The Guide guarantees the sustainability and results dissemination of the project WOW and promotes its activities. It also shows the achievements, posi- tive outcomes and products which were gained through the stages of the project. The guide also presents a list of tips and ways of travelling to the resorts as well as possible accommodation, which could be useful for European organi- zations which promote spa and Wellness tourism. The Travel Guide is divided into seven parts and contains: Part 1 – Spa resorts in English Part 2 – Translation of the spa resorts in Bulgarian Part 3 – Translation of the spa resorts in Italian Part 4 – Translation of the spa resorts in Lithuanian Part 5 – Translation of the spa resorts in Polish Part 6 – Translation of the spa resorts in Portuguese Part 7 – Translation of the spa resorts in Turkish

There are more than 550 known sources with 1,600 springs that have a total capacity of 4,900 per second. Bankya Basic information Bankya is a town in Western Bul- garia, near the capital Sofia. It’s situ- ated at the foot of Lyulin Mountain, on the banks of the Bankya River and is famous for its green areas, sunny days and healing mineral springs. Bankya is a national center for the rehabilitation and prevention of cardiovascular diseases. The resort has modern spa centers, many private hotels and restaurants, and its proximity to the capital allows it to be visited for a one-day trip. The name of Bankya means “a small bath house”. There are several sanatoriums and spa hotels in the town, as well as a Specialized Rehabilitation Hospital. On the outskirts of the town there is a bottling plant for the Bankya mineral water. The town is preferred for recreation and balneotherapy because of its tranquility of the mountain, clean air and healing water. Water-related information Bankya is famous for its mineral water which is clear, odor-free and tasty. The temperature of the mineral water is 36–37 0 C, it has stable physi- co-chemical balance and is low on mineral salts. It’s suitable for everyday usage. • 21. 21 ITALY Italy has been defined by writers, poets and travellers the “Bel Paese”, due to the union among beautiful landscapes, artistic wealth, natural resourc- es and mild climate. In the ancient Romans, the SPAs were important centres for meeting and socializing. Even during the Arab domination, especially in the South of Italy, the use of precious groundwater, within the spa have played an important cultural and religious role. Nowadays they have assumed the more general role of wellness centers, with or without a thermal source, and the meaning of the acronym word “SPA” is linked precisely to the Latin term “salus (or sanitas) per aquam” (or per aquas), that is, “health through water” (or waters). However, the term “SPA” comes from a toponym: the name of the Belgian spa town, located in the province of Liège, rich in thermal springs, known as the spa center in Roman times and became popular especially since the fif- teenth century. Due to the extensive mountain chains of the Alps and the Apennines and thanks to the presence of secondary volcanic activity in several Italian regions, the “Bel Paese” is dotted with numerous accommodation facilities that use thermal waters as a source of care and wellbeing. SPA IN NORTHERN ITALY 1. Baths of Saint-Vincent (Valle d‘Aosta) The mineral source of Saint-Vincent, discovered in 1770, was called Fons Salutis for the healing properties of its water. Taken as a fasting drink (hydroponic care) the water of Saint-Vincent performs a balancing and regulating action of the digestive system. Inhalation treatments are administered for chronic airway inflammation. The original health center has been integrated with a modern wellness center. The spa offers a unique, sophisticated and elegant design. The route develops through four swimming pools: a larger basin with water at 34 ° C, one with a view of the valley and water at 32 ° C, a third reaction tank with
  • 22. 22 a temperature of 27 ° C and a fourth panoramic view with water at 36 ° C. All the pools are equipped with whirlpools, cervical jets and vascular pathways. Completing the offer are three saunas (Finnish, soft and Mediterranean), steam bath, breeze showers, emotional showers, icefall, relaxation area with herbal teas and solarium with three jacuzzis. A wide range of highly qualified treatments is also proposed, from massotherapy to aesthetic treatments, the ingredients at the base of an exciting combination of pleasure, well-being and self-care. 2.Libere Bormio Spa (Lombardia) You climb up to reach Bormio, a city located in the heart of the Alps in Lombar- dy.
