With our homemarket NL/Limburg region playing a crucial role
Illustrated by 2 examples: Chemelot2025 and Krammer windpark
DSM is a example of successful transformation
DSM founded in 1902 DSM as mining company
In the thirties DSM succesfull with byproduct fertilizer. Constantly looking for new possibilities.
December 1965; Speech Minister Economic Affairs Den Uyl in Heerlen, Mines will be closed.
In ten years time 45.000 mineworkers will lose their job. Ten thousands of indirect jobs will be lost.
After WO II DSM transformed into producing bulk chemicals
Market for plastics increased, DSM saw that the future was there
In 1970, chemicals and fertilizers main activities, 2/3 of revenue
Focus on petrochemical activities

For many companies, sustainability is a revenue model.
DSM has sustainability at the heart of the strategy.
Driven by trends in society, such as healthcare, climate change, population growth, increasing urbanization, etc.
Sustainability is the most important growth factor for the Netherlands. Performance Materials with a reduced eco-foot print is a good example.

14 October 2016 we’ve announced a unique partnership in the Netherlands in which four leading companies (incl DSM) have
made a longterm agreement to jointly source power from renewable energy projects.
First agreement is to buy power from a Windpark Krammer, established by cooperative of 4000 local/regional members.
With this initiative the companies significantly contribute to deliver on the Dutch renewable energy target of 14% in 2020 (as agreed in the Dutch Energy Agreement for Sustainable Growth in 2013.)
This is a unique ‘bottom-up’ collaboration that is a perfect fit for DSM as a company that has sustainability in the core of its strategy.
These are just 2 examples of how we are putting sustainability in the heart of our growth strategy.
Through cooperation and building relations.
We can’t find the answers and solutions alone; we need each other and others for that.
With our homemarket NL/Limburg region playing a crucial role.
From the golden triangle to the green square. Doing well by doing good.
Revenue model of the future, in the Netherlands too.
