went on to secure Class 1 jobs - a great achievement. It also established the importance of education in

KHANDAN.Your great grand father late HARIHAR CHARAN was additional district judge,
munghyr. In one of the cases he gave judgement against government. It was reversed by district
judge(Englishman) .Matter went to high court Patna.Highcourt Patna refered it to privi council
London with its remarks. After 6 months privi council gave its opinion in favour of Additional district
judges judgement. This is kept in Patna high court as landmark judgement by an Indian.It was
displayed on the 50th and75th anniversary of Patna high court.

career, under him/his guidance in Arrah and had even seen Papa as a little boy!! Years later, that little
boy became Nanaji's son-in-law.

• I didn't get to share my memories earlier. I had sent the message just before falling asleep last night,
thinking that in India it was already Baba's Birthday. Memories they merge together in the middle
room of ground floor of Jamal Road. Baba coming dressed in formal black court wear into the
compound. Getting his books from the book cases. Then scribing something on his paper. To me a
world beyond comprehension at that age. Clearing his throat. Wearing white. Gangi (undershirt) I
presume dhoti. Didn't think it was pajama.Sitting in the chair on the front steps.The Prasad with
ladoos, like Chandu said. Being sad to tears when we left India in January 1981.
• Arriving with Dadi in Montreal in late 70s. Me being super excited. Footnote: I was already almost as
tall as Dadi. There was one day in 1975, I was 4, when I was walking with Baba in the compound. As
my memory serves me. Baba was holding my hand. He was asking questions of me. Which I think is
wonderful when an elder wants to hear the ideas of a child. These are some that I still feel and cherish.
So grateful to be his and Dadi's grandchild.

treasured sari and cassette...I was kind of missing your inputs all of yesterday and now there's a
barrage of memories. Understandably.
• Isn't it a great feeling that all of us, family, we brothers and sisters, are feeling closer than ever before,
transported back to the halcyon days in our dearly-loved, sprawling Jamal Road home, our haven,
when the family was together, in little groups of people: some walking perennially, the 'brothers'
lounging ordering endless cups of tea to any of us hapless girls who crossed their way...ah, these two
days have brought back those golden days. And it's yesterday once more!

• 10/12/17, 1:18 PM - Priti: Jiji, the whole of yesterday and today going through shared memories by all,
from different parts of the world was like reliving the bachpan ke pal... wanted to hear more and
more of it......didn't feel like interrupting. Also, didn't know where to begin...........at times, even got
tearful today during the day. After coming home from office, shared the treasures, which were easily
expressible....
• 10/12/17, 1:20 PM - Jiji: I can so imagine, Priti. Especially all of you who spent the maximum time with
Baba and Dadi. There must be countless memories.
• 10/12/17, 1:34 PM - Priti: You know, after the last paper for BA exam, three of my friends were coming
down when Primary school principal and our college principal met us on the stairs, and got talking,
and offered us internship at the school. When I came home and Baba ko bataye aur pranam kiye to
Baba Aashirwad diye
• "" tumko Kabhi naukari khojane nahi jaana padega. Naukari tumko khojate khojate aayegi""
• And I have always felt his Aashirwad with me in my job. Also, I had dreamt of Baba when my
marriage was being fixed with Sanjay, very clearly, very happy. And that is when suddenly everything
fell in place for me and I relaxed

• 10/12/17, 1:53 PM - Priti: You know when Baba was getting old, he used to take a long time to
finish his meals, and so we were assigned the job of attending to him by turns. And it was quite
an ordeal for us kids. ..so one day I was complaining to Panna Chacha that I was not able to
study for my exam because Baba used to take away so much of my study time. Panna Chacha's
words changed my life's perspective for ever, as well as my relations with Baba during the last
few years of Baba's life. He said, "" Kitne Saal Baba aur rahenge - do- char Saal zyada see
zyada....jab itne Saal acche se beet Gaye to baki bhi acche se nikal Jaye na?""
• Believe me, that had come as a shock to me... I DID NOT WANT BABA TO LEAVE US EVER.
And from that day onwards as long as he lived, I used to massage his feet with sarso Tel every
night till he fell asleep, and then only I used to go to sleep. No turn-wise duty to attend to him
for dinners
