A
utumn is a period of
transition and change,
so it’s not surprising
that the season’s
beauty trends are reflective of
the transformative power of
nature. This vibrant look pays
homage to the leafy autumn
colours found in the forest.
Christine Lucignano,
makeup artist for Chanel,
explains the revitalisation of
the traditional smokey eye:
“The dark smokey eye has
been evolving to more of a
coloured smokey eye.” To
mark this transformation, the
autumn winter collections were
littered with tangerine and
burnt orange shades. Adding
black eyeliner lends a striking
dimension to this look, as seen
at Sophie Theallet. Meanwhile
embracing tangerine hues
across the face, as at Hervé
Léger, creates a fresh, dewy
visage.
While the brightness
of orange shades can be
intimidating, Lucignano says
the look can be tempered. “To
get that little breakthrough of
colour, take your fingertip or
brush and wash the colour all
over the eyelids. This shade is a
really youthful sort of wash, so
you see the colours in the iris
start to emerge as they bounce
off the shadow. Make sure
to blend the colour so that it
emerges as a haze.” Finish with
a layer of mascara.
