Presidentof the Tri CityRollerDerbyLeague,Kitchener, Ontario. Overthe lasttwoyears,I hadthe
pleasure of working asthe VolunteerCoordinatorwithSue fortwoevents;Women’sFlatTrackDerby
Association(WFTDA) Division2RollerDerbyTournamentin2014 and the inaugural Tri City RollerDerby
TournamentBeaverFeverin2015. Sue was TournamentDirectorforbothof these events thatincluded
participantsfromacrossNorth Americaand boasted attendance of over500 players,vendors,
volunteersand spectators
In the capacityof Tournament Director,Sue washands on withall aspectsof tournamentorganization
and operations includingliaisingwiththe WFTDA tournamentofficials,recruitingandoverseeingthe
tasksof tournamentcommittee members,overseeingthe preparationof tournament marketingand
advertising, attractingvendors,settingmasterschedulesandensuringthatall the requirementsof the
tournamentfacility metWFTDA specifications.Sue alsoprovidedguidance tothe preparationof roles
and responsibilities documentation forcommittee headsand volunteersandforpreparing atournament
pass ticketingstrategyforspectators.
In additiontoSue’sexceptionalorganizationskills,herforte iscollaboratingandbuildingrelationships
withthose thatshe works with.She hasexcellentcommunicationandlisteningskillsandexudesacalm
and confidentmanner. Sue was very accessible tosupport tournamentworkerswithoutmicro-
managingbyholdingmeetings,asnecessary, andcommunicatingregularlythroughemailsandsocial
media.
For the Tri CityRollerDerbyTournament,Sue set-upall tournamenttasksandcommunicationsthrough
Trellowhichisan online systemforsharingandorganizinginformation. Thissystemprovedtobe an
invaluable wayof organizingthe multitude of tournamenttasks,sharingdocuments andalso
streamlinedandefficientlytrackedcommunicationbetweencommittee members
As an EventCoordinator,IthinkthatSue will bringnotonlyan impressivetrackrecordof expertise to
thiswork,she will alsobringa level of passion,caringandcollaborative spiritthatwill ensurea
successful eventand future referralsformanyeventstocome.
