Both an area student who won a prestigious scholarship and members of College of
DuPage's Multimedia Services who won media awards were recognized for their
achievements during the college's regular Board of Trustees meeting on Thursday,
Sept. 20.
Dr. Sunil Chand, college president, announced that Susan Miller of LaGrange, an
Adult Fast Track student and a member of Phi Theta Kappa, was selected as a 2007
Leader of Promise by that international honor society for two-year colleges.
The award includes a $1,000 scholarship. The purpose of the scholarship is to
facilitate completion of associate degree studies and to "encourage new Phi Theta
Kappa members to serve in leadership positions in their chapter."
Miller, who attended the board meeting with her family, has authored an essay
detailing her experiences working in the hospitality industry before attending
C.O.D. to study business. Miller plans to continue her education at Northwood
University in Lisle to earn a bachelor's degree in business. Her essay starts off with
the quotation by Joel Arthur Barker: "Vision without action is merely a dream.
Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the
world."
"We are quite proud of her," said Jocelyn Harney, vice president, Student Affairs.
"Annually, one student is recognized for that achievement."
