Research/Work Experience
September
2009 to
July 2013
Power System Engineer in "Power Research and Development Consultants”
(PRDC), Bangalore, India.
Conducted power system studies for utilities and industrial power plants. Studies included
load flow, short circuit, transient stability, reactor adequacy studies, harmonic analysis and
relay coordination studies in Mipower (power system analysis software).
Performed transmission planning studies (for years 2011 to 2016) for eastern Indian state
of West Bengal. Studies included
Peak load studies - to assess/plan the 220 and 400 kV transmission network
requirements checking loading of transmission lines and substations considering the
forecasted peak load for each year. Also, considering effect of different contingencies
(N-1, N-2) as prescribed in Indian Grid code.
Light load studies - to assess the reactor requirements for future substations under
these conditions
Short circuit studies - to assess requirement of breaker capacities for planned
substations
Transient stability studies - to study effect of sudden large disturbances on the
planned network as per grid code guidelines (like faults on major transmission lines,
large generator outages, load throw off, assessing critical clearing time of generators)
Power system expansion studies for Jindal South West Steel Limited, Bellary, Karnataka
Studies included over current phase relay coordination studies for the medium voltage
distribution network (large steel plant in India) of the plant.
Performed power evacuation studies for power companies considering technical,
commercial and regulatory aspects of power transmission.
Data collection at site, discussions with clients, preparation of reports and presentations.
2. May 2014
to April 2016
Institute of Automation of Complex Power Systems at E.ON Energy Research Center,
RWTH Aachen, Germany
Student job (May 2014 - June 2015) -10 to 15 hours/week
Modelling of distributed generators (DG) in Real time digital simulator (RTDS) and
studying the effects of their integration in to IEEE 14 bus system.
Modelling and analysis of two area Kundur power system network in Opal-RT real time
software
Master Thesis (November 2015 – May 2016) titled –‘Design and implementation of
state estimation algorithm for hybrid ac-dc grids’
Develop a generalised weighted least square ac and dc state estimator in Matlab flexible
w.r.t. number of buses in ac and dc systems, configuration of measurement sets and control
mode of converter, configuration of converter (monopolar/bipolar)
Refine the results of ac and dc state estimators by updating the boundary conditions
between hybrid grids considering principles of propagation of uncertainty.
Identify critical measurements and perform tests to study and improvise on the
observability aspect of ac-dc grids.
Develop a demo platform using Python-Matlab interface where Python displays/updates
the results of state estimation results from Matlab every few seconds.
