3. Dandruff and hair fall are nightmare for everyone who has the problem.
Being some of the common hair and scalp problems, due to allergies that lead to
hair dry and itch. It somehow deteriorates one’s self-esteem and confidence in
facing other people. There have been a lot of discoveries and try out in order to
solve or minimize this hair problem. However, treatment is so expensive that a
low-income person who suffers this problem cannot afford. That is why, the
researchers decided to come up with a solution to this hair problem by using the
mixture of the three ingredients which are available in our community. The
materials are coconut milk, malunggay leaves extract, and calamansi juice.
In this study, the three materials were gathered first. Then, the grated
coconut is measured in three cups, squeezed then strained to fourteen
tablespoons of pure coconut milk. Next, three cups of malunggay leaves, added
one tablespoon of water pounded to get five tablespoons of malunggay extract.
Then cut the three pieces of calamansi into half and squeeze to get three
tablespoons of juice. After extracting the three substances, mix thoroughly and
blanch for a minute, and let it cool for a while. When the mixture was cool enough,
apply it to a person with hair problem especially, those with dandruff and hair fall.
After an hour, wash thoroughly using ordinary shampoo. This was tried to three
persons with hair problem. The researchers did it in three consecutive Saturdays,
until, the result was positive.
The researchers finally found out that the mixture of the three extracted
substances can remove or cure dandruff and hair fall with low cost and materials
available in our community.

INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
The hair is our crowning glory that holds true for most people since it is one of the things
that leaves a lasting impression in people we meet. This is the reason why we need to take
extra care of our hair. Our hair and scalp, just like our skin need special attention in order to
avoid hair problems. What motivates us to investigate this project, was that our grandparents
used coconut milk to take care of their hair and scalp even long before and found out that they
have healthy, silky and black hair even in their old age. In addition, malunggay was known to
treat some disorder in our body so with the calamansi is known for its healing effects.
The purpose of this study is to make use of the materials that are available in our
community and very affordable in our budget.
Statement of the Problem/ Objectives
General Objectives
a. To find out how coconut milk, malunggay leaves and calamansi really cured hair
problems.
b. To utilize materials found in our environment.
Specific Objectives
a. To test qualitative effects of coconut milk, malunggay leaves and calamansi
juice mixture to affected areas of the head/scalp.
b. To find an alternative low cost method of treating dandruff and hair fall.
5. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This research is significant because it can be an effective treatment for hair problems
such as dandruff and hair fall and the availability of the materials in our community. In this study,
many will be benefitted especially to those who can’t afford expensive medicines and go to
dermatologists for treatment.

SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS
This research is limited to the tropical countries specifically in our locality with coconut
trees, malunggay and calamansi. The extracted materials can be preserved in the refrigerator
intended for the next use. The proponents failed to test the expiration date due to the time
constrain. Moreover, quantitative determination of the said product was effective.
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
Coconut milk is a liquid extracted from grated coconut. It can benefit the human hair in
many ways. It helps in healthy growth of hair and gives our hair a shiny quality. Also, it is highly
effective in reducing protein loss, which leads to non-attraction in our hair. Moreso, malunggay
leaves once considered a poor man’s vegetables is now known as a miracle tree or nature’s
medicine cabinet by scientists and health care workers from around the world. This is because it
is loaded with vitamins and minerals that can be as effective remedy against many kinds of
ailments. The leaves of malunggay, dubbed “miracle tree”, have been discovered as the most
nutritious bio-food on earth. It contains four times the vitamin A (beta-carotene) of carrots,
thrive the potassium in bananas, three times the iron content in spinach, with a full complement
of minerals and all the amino acids of meat.
The calamansi is widely cultivated in the Philippines. This plant is smooth, somewhat
spiny tree, growing from 3 to 5 meters in height. The whole fruit is made into marmalade. The
6. juice is also concentrated with syrup. The fruit is crushed with gogo and used for cleaning the
hair. Because of this, various experiments and studies have been conducted and found out that
coconut milk, malunggay leaves and calamansi juice extract are indeed effective and
economical.

7. A. Materials
14 tablespoons of coconut milk
5 tablespoons of malunggay leaves extract
3 tablespoons of calamansi juice

B. Prepar ation of the mi xtur e
Matured coconut was selected, opened and grated. Squeezed, then strained to extract
the coconut milk and set aside. Three cups of malunggay leaves were pounded using a mortar
and pestle with an added one tablespoon of water. The malunggay extract was transferred in
the clean cloth to extract the juice and set aside. Three pieces of calamansi were squeezed to
extract the juice and set aside. All the extracts of coconut, malunggay, and calamansi were
mixed and blanched for a minute and cooled.
With the use of cotton balls, dip into the mixture to absorb the extracts and apply into the
affected area. Massage the scalp and to the tip of the hair for approximately fifteen minutes.
Then the hair was covered with a hair-drying cap for at least one hour. Rinse with water
and shampoo. The treatment is done for three consecutive Saturdays to test the effectiveness
of the mixture. Then qualitatively evaluated based on the assessment of the person being
tested.

Three persons have used the different substances for three consecutive Saturdays. The
first person used the commercial product for dandruff and hair fall. The hair results in shiny and
the dandruff and hair fall were decreased. The second person used the usual mixture of coconut
milk mixed with water and revealed shiny hair but dandruff and hair fall are still evident. It means
that the coconut extract alone is not as effective to prevent dandruff and hair fall. The third
person on the other hand used the mixture of coconut, malunggay, and calamansi. It was found
out that the hair looks shiny and smooth with no more dandruff and hair fall.
9. Based on our study, it was found out that the use of coconut milk makes the hair shiny and
smooth. With the additional ingredients the calamansi and malunggay enhance the effect as
evident for the removal of the dandruff and hair loss after use.

RECOMM END ATION
The results show qualitatively the effect of the mixture in combating dandruff and hair
fall. But further study should be conducted, by increasing the sample size, optimum
concentration, and more quantitative and qualitative parameters. Further if the problem still
exists, it is advised that continuous treatment at least once a week will be conducted.
