Drug distribution system in Hospital Pharmacy

2. In Patients are those patients who required hospitalization that
is get themselves admitted in the hospital, stay their for
treatment till they are discharge.
There are four systems for in-patient drug distribution
department:
1. Individual prescription order
2. Complete floor stock system
3. Combination of 1 and 2
4. Unit dose dispensing system
3. It is the type of Prescription system where the physician write
the prescription for individual patient who obtained the
medicines from any medical store or hospital dispensary by
paying on charge.
4. Under this system the drugs are given to patient through the
nursing station and from pharmacy supplies. Drug on nursing
station or ward divided into:
a. Charge Floor Stock Drugs
b. Non-charge Floor Sock Drugs
5. In this system medicines which are stocks on the
nursing station at all time and charged to patient
account after they have been administered them.
The patient is charged for every single dose
administered to him.
Selections of drugs in various
wards is decided by “Pharmacy and Therapeutic
Committee”
6. Non-charge floor stock drugs are the medicaments that are
placed at the nursing station for the use of all patients on the
floor.
For these drugs, there shall be no direct charge from the
patients account.
It is divided into following methods-
a. Drug Basket Method
b. Mobile Dispensary Method
7. Nurse fill a requisition form for delivery drugs at their floors;
When there is an empty container, the nurse places it in the drug basket;
Once the procedure is completed the drug basket containing empty
containers and requisition form for floor stock supplies is then sent to the
pharmacy;
Immediately in the morning, the pharmacy staff fill each container and
dispenses the requested drug;
Once the basket is completed, it is delivered to the floor via messenger
service; and alternatively a Mobile Dispensary Unit can be utilized:

11. 1. Centralized unit dose distribution[ CUDD ]-
All the drugs are store on the central area of the hospital and
dispense at the time the dose is due to be given to the patient.
2. Decentralized unit dose dispensing[ DUDD]-
This operates through small satellite pharmacy on each floor of
the hospital. The main pharmacy is serves the medicines to all
satellite pharmacy.
12. Out patient refers to patient which is not occupying bed in
hospital. In short form the out patient department is known as
O.P.D.
The patient with minor or common
illness go to the OPD for consultation to the physician after
examining the patient, if the physician feel that there is no
need of admitting the patient to the hospital he prescribes the
medicines.
The prescription is written by a
physician is bought to pharmacist for compounding &
dispensing medicines.
