- 50's : the television wasn't common in American homes until the 1950s. From 1949 to 1973, nearly half of all daytime programming on the three networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC) was talk. beginning of entertainment programs. more generally beginning of tv programming in general. TS have been more and more successful since their apparition. This success can be explain by the fact that they are shows where you can find information, cultural events but also an entertainment. Joe Franklin, an American radio and television personality, hosted the first television talk show. The show began in 1951 on WJZ-TV (later WABC-TV), a TV station located in Baltimore. Steve Allen was the first host of The Tonight Show, which began as a local New York show in 1953, a 40 minutes show. Allen pioneer of : the format of late night network TV talk shows, opening monologue, celebrity interviews, audience participation. This talk show continued to exist with others hosts. It also saw some of the lowest moments in the format, with stuff like Jerry Springer. = people get violent in this show But also a diversifying in the informations given. Oprah Winfrey : since 80's, adapt herself to the time, the social context and her public. Different forms : ex a lawyer : Jones&Jury. It was a woman who acted like a lawyer while the audience voted on the verdict
- Nowadays : talk shows are more and more present in the United States - and other countries try to introduce them in their culture. TS continue to adapt their selves to the new topics, the new styles of lives to try to catch more and more attention from the spectators. They are now followed as much as series programs.
