This paper presents the study of assessment of external electric and magnetic field exposure to live line operator of 1200 KV, Ultra High Voltage (UHV) AC proposed line in India. Single circuit (S/C) and double circuit (D/C) power lines are considered for the assessment. Combination of charge simulation and image method is adopted for evaluation of extremely low frequency (ELF) electric fields where as Ampere law is used for magnetic fields. Analysis is carried out using MATLAB software . The assessment of ELF exposure to line operator has been carried out for various scenarios. These assessed values of electric and magnetic field (EMF) exposures are compared with standard allowable limits set by various International Standards. Moreover, the safety of general public living at the edge of right of way (ROW) and 15 m away is evaluated. The objective of the study is to create awareness about the power frequency EMF radiations and its health issues among the power engineers, line operators , general public’s and to electricity utilities, the government to enforce the regulations.

Renewable energy sources are being increasingly implemented in many applications due to the growing concern of environmental pollution. The PV (Photovoltaic) system appears to be most promising one because it is environmentally clean in nature and it directly converts solar energy into electrical energy. This paper presents the FPGA (Field programmable gate array) based speed control of PMBLDC (Permanent magnet Brushless DC) motor & this BLDC motor is driven by the solar energy. The solar panel is used to obtain the energy needed to run BLDC motor. The voltage obtained from solar panel is stored in battery due to the non-constant nature of solar energy. The voltage from battery is not sufficient to run BLDC motor & hence boost converter is used to boost the voltage required to run BLDC motor. Commutation is implemented on FPGA. FPGA based speed control scheme reduces the complexity of motor control hardware & in turn boost the demand for mobile applications.

HVDC Light systems range from 3MW to about 1000MW transmission technology combining power converters and DC cables. The power converters are based on Voltage Source Converters (VSC) and Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control. The use of series connection of power semiconductors such as IGBTs is fundamental to the development of the HVDC Light technology. HVDC Light is excellent for underground and under water power transmission. By use of HVDC Light power converters and cables, it is possible to overcome the technical difficulties to connect small loads and small scale generating units to the AC grid and to make the connection economical and environmentally friendly. This paper presents viability analysis of using HVDC Light technology for electrification of Mafia Ireland (Tanzania) from the national grid. In the paper the load demand forecast has been performed to estimate the load for the next 25 years at Mafia Island. HVDC Light model has been developed and simulated using MATLAB/Simulink software. The simulation results show that HVDC Light system performance is capable of delivering reliable and quality power when the Mafia Island is supplied by national grid using HVDC Light system. The benefits include more reliable power supply reduced environmental effects.

A photovoltaic cell or photoelectric cell is a semiconductor device that converts light to electrical energy by photovoltaic effect. If the energy of photon of light is greater than the band gap then the electron is emitted and the flow of electrons creates current. However a photovoltaic cell is different from a photodiode. In a photodiode light falls on n-channel of the semiconductor junction and gets converted into current or voltage signal but a photovoltaic cell is always forward biased. The photovoltaic (pv) power technology uses semiconductor cells (wafers), generally several square centimeters in size. The cell is basically a large area p-n diode with the junction positioned close to the top surface. The cell converts the sunlight into direct current electricity. Numerous cells are assembled in a module to generate required power

What is islanding ? Consider the power network as shown in fig.1 Now if we disconnect the line AB from the infinite transmission grid there will be an isolated region . The D1, D2 are power sources (eg : inverter , solar power cells ). The power generated in this region is fed to the island only. We see that there no longer is any control over the island voltage at the bus X . Also there is no mechanism here for control of frequency. This state is referred to as islanding.

In this paper novel interleaved boost converter (IBC) with snubber circuit is presented. It is compared with conventional boost and IBC. In the proposed topology current stress on each switch is one fourth of input current. Simulation comparison is done for 1hp universal motor and it is proved that proposed converter gives near to the designed values of output voltage, current and power. Ripples in boost, IBC and proposed IBC system are compared. Ripples of the parameter voltage, current and power are reduced with snubber. Also proposed system with hard switching efficiency is about 92% and its efficiency is increased to 93.37% with soft switching.
