WORLD FIRST AID DAY 2016
FIRST AID SAVES LIVES
World First Aid Day is a global observance held on the second Saturday in September . It was
instituted by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in
2000 and has been celebrated each year ever since.
The term “first aid” refers to the assistance given to anyone suffering a sudden injury or illness.
Its main goals are to preserve life and prevent the condition from worsening. It is not always
performed by medical personnel. In emergency situations, ordinary people often have to perform
first aid to save someone's life.
First aid does not necessarily require any prior medical knowledge and can involve
improvisation. However, if the person performing first aid doesn't know what they are doing,
they might hurt instead of helping. That is why the Makinika Afrika encourages people to
undergo basic first aid training or at least educate themselves using any available reliable
sources. From the theme ‘Be Informed’, Makinika Afrika endeavors to build a culture of safety
and wellness by sharing the basic safety and wellness information to general safety champions
within each individual. A large percentage of staff do not have the basic First aid or Fire Safety
knowledge and thus do not have a clue of what to do incase of any incident at the workplace, it is
in this case that Makinika Afrika create awareness/sensitization in workplaces, churches,
schools, seminars, conferences, conventions, you camps, homes, gated estates and other
organized groups to disseminate basic safety and wellness knowledge.
In the modern world where the hustles and bustles of life happen in a competitive and risk filled
environment, it pays to have life saving skills because you cannot learn it in an emergency.
The instructors employ a variety of methods to ensure they understand exactly what training
services is required. The methodologies used in the training include: Case studies, interactive
training, audio visuals, participatory exercises, and practical sessions.
Makinika Afrika pride with first class delivery of first aid training, both personal and technical.

To provide the resources required to develop collaboration and coordination with the emergency
service providers representing various sectors including county, state, and federal agencies, the
military, environmental agencies, medical and health service providers, law enforcement, and
volunteer and community groups. Makinika Afrika focusses on creation of awareness country-
wide to ensure they have the skills needed to save lives when an emergency happens.
World First Aid Day aims at raising awareness of how first aid can prevent injuries and save
lives in everyday and crisis situations, as well as at promoting the accessibility of the first aid.
Events and activities held on this day focus on first aid training. Every year, a new global theme
for the day is chosen, and participants are encouraged to plan events according to the current
year's theme.
September 10, 2016, is World First Aid Day, an annual campaign to promote the importance of
first aid training in preventing injuries and saving lives.
First aid training provides more than the knowledge and skills to effectively respond – it also
provides the confidence to act when needed. Makinika Afrika First Aid offers a wide scope of
knowledge empowering people to act on, prevent, and manage life’s emergencies promptly,
effectively and safely.
Having the skills to act immediately in an emergency situation can help save lives and reduce the
impact of injury, but the knowledge also helps prevent injuries in the first place.
