Cassius Clay wins the
gold medal in the light
heavyweight division of
the 1960 Olympics.
Fight stopped due to
rib injury suffered by
Donnie Fleeman in the
6th round.
Willi Besmanoff was
knocked down twice in
the 7th round.
Clay gets knocked
down in the 1st round.
He knocks out Banks in
the 4th round.
Daniels suffers a cut
above the eye that
eventually forces the
fight to stop.
Archie Moore gets
knocked down three
times in the 4th round.
The fight gets
stopped in the 5th
round because of cuts
suffered by Cooper
above the eye.
Clay wins the
heavyweight title from
Liston after having the
odds stacked against
him 7 to 1. After the
bout he screams “I
shook up the world!”
Cassius Clay
changes his name to
Muhammad Ali shortly
before his rematch
with Sonny Liston.
Floyd Patterson refuses
to acknowledge
Ali’s new name.

promises to punish
Floyd in the ring, as

A bad cut over
Cooper’s eye forced
the referee to stop the
fight in the 6th round.
Ernie Terrell did
the same as Floyd
Patterson. The
ramifications consisted
of Ali dismantling and
disfiguring Terrell.
Ali was stripped of
his belt, in 1967, after
refusing to be drafted
into service. He didn’t
return to the ring until
1970.
Joe Frazier connects
to Ali’s chin with a left
hook that sends him
to the mat in the 8th
round. Ali ends up
losing his first match.
Mathis was downed
twice in the 11th and
twice more in the 12th.
Ali was favored to win
by 7 to 1 odds.
Lewis got knocked
down in the 5th round
for what some rumor
to be more than 10
seconds. Gets TKO’d
in the 11th.
Fight gets stopped
due to cuts and
swelling around
Patterson’s eyes.
Bob Foster got
knocked down seven
times before the 8th
and final time in the
8th round.
Ali gets his jaw broken
in the 2nd round but
refuses to have Angelo
Dundee stop the fight.
He loses the match,
but goes the distance.
Ali beats the
heavily favored
George Foreman
at the “Rumble in
the Jungle”. Ring
Magazine declares it
the fight of the year.
Wepner put a blow to
Ali’s body that knocked
him down. Wepner’s
gutsy performance
inspired the actor
Sylvester Stallone to
write “Rocky”.
The 3rd and final
meeting between
Frazier and Ali was
coined the “Thrilla
in Manila”. Ring
Magazine deemed it
fight of the year.
Leon Spinks provided
one of the biggest
upsets in boxing
history when he
defeated Ali.
The rematch
placed Ali as the
victor. After the
match, Ali retired
and the belt
went vacant.
Ali lost and
blamed his
thyroid medication
that helped
him lose weight.
The aged Ali lost his
final pro fight and
accredited the loss to
his maturing.
