The Silence
1. Film Treatment: The Silence
A woman named lili walks the cold streets at night clutching a single white rose, its valentine’s day
and the rain is pouring, dripping from the rose like her tears. She is alone, abandoned on the day of
love and not knowing what to do with her. She has been walking for hours, Comatose to the outside
world locked up within her thoughts; she had no general direction and had no idea where she was.
Blood trickled down her arm as the rose in her hand still hard sharp thorns that were pressed deep
into her palm. She chose to ignore the pain and pressed on with her weary walk, unknown to her no
matter how many petals she would pull off the rose, they would instantly grow back, so with every
step she took a trail of rose petals followed closely behind like her shadow, each petal stained with
the blood of her hands.
After walking for some time she eventually came to a rundown church and decided to go inside to
escape the rain, she opened the large ominous door and stepped inside. Inside the church was a
harsh cold that wrapped itself around her like a frozen blanket, she clung to her small coat in a
desperate attempt to stay warm. The room was dark and she pulled out her lighter and lit the few
candles that were left. She felt uneasy like she wasn’t alone but she shrugged off these feelings and
decided to look around the church for something to keep her warm. The Silence was deafening and
the darkness surrounded her like she was prey, only protected by the small flickering light. She
looked to the windows and saw the rain dribbling down them but couldn’t hear the noise.
As she made her way towards the altar she stumbled on a crack in the floor and the noise of her fall
Reverberated around the room with her short scream. She picked up the candle and turned to
examine, it felt as if something was pulling back. This set her heart pounding and she looked around
frantically to make sure that she is alone but the piercing black darkness denied her reassurance. She
stood up and walked to a nearby Pew to inspect her injury. She lifted her dress slightly and saw that
she had cut her knee and as she went to touch it she also noticed the blood on the rose she was still
holding. As soon as she noticed her injury the pain started to throb in her hand and she dropped the
rose to floor, She wrapped her hand in her dress as a make-shift Tourniquet to stop the bleeding.
She could not shake the feeling that she wasn’t alone and as she turned her head to the side she
noticed something in the pew with her. Upon closer inspection she could see that it was an old china
doll with Cracks and dirt all around it. As she walked closer towards it suddenly turns its head and
stares back at her, Even though the doll had no eyes she could feel it staring deep into her soul, This
made lili shudder. As she tried to get closer to the doll it got yanked away into the darkness and hit
the end of the pew with a thud. Lilli’s heart was pounding through her chest and it was the only
thing she could hear. She pressed on curiously to see what was pulling the doll, if anything. As she
walked closer to the doll the clack of her heels along the floor began to get quieter and quieter until
they made no sound at all. The candle light was slowly dying away the further she got. Lili knew
something was not right as she noticed her shoes had stop making noise. She tried to speak but no
sound came out, she could not tell if she had gone Deaf or something else had caused this Forced
Silence. She started to sob uncontrollably in fear but she could not turn back. Her legs would not
allow she and she walked closer, and closer to the doll like a puppet on strings.
She reached the doll and her legs suddenly stopped. She was frozen in her own body and could
hardly move. She looked towards the doll and could see blood trickling down its face from its empty
2. eye sockets. Lili was stricken with fear but couldn’t stop herself from moving closer towards to the
doll.
The dolls hands were outstretched calling lili towards her like an innocent baby wanting to hug her
mother. The doll blew out lili’s candle and she was swallowed up into the darkness.
Suddenly a lightning bolt fills the room and lili’s face shows up on screen. Her eyes gone, her mouth
stitched and a pair of scissors stuck in her head. A muffled scream escapes her mouth before the
light vanished and fades to black.
