Cream. These artists produced the type of music that hippies and 60s youth listened to. The Beatles were the most popular act of the 1960s and are the bestselling artists of all time. 1960s music was
connected to some 1960s films, The Beatles produced films such as “A Hard Day’s Night”, “Yellow Submarine” and “Magical History Tour”, The Beatles also made the first music videos, in the 1960s
people bought music on vinyl. Some of the most iconic films of the 1960s were “Psycho”, “2001:A Space Odyssey” and “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”. The most popular Oscar winning film of the
1960s was “Lawrence of Arabia”. A film that was extremely popular with 1960s youth was “The Graduate” and “Easy Rider”. In Britain, the most common stereotypes of the 1960s were the Mods and
the Rockers, Mods drove Mopeds and Rockers drove Harley Davidsons, these two stereotypes were rivals who would often meet on the beach and fight, Mods often wore Parker jackets and Rockers
often wore Leather Jackets. In America an important event was the Vietnam war, hippies wanted this war to end, JFK was the president during the early 1960s until he was shot in a car in Dallas, Texas.
The most remembered music festival of the 1960s was Woodstock which took place on August the 15 -18 1969. A huge number of young people came to this festival, mainly hippies. Some of the acts
who performed at this concert were the Grateful Dead, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin, Sly & the Family Stone, the Who, Jefferson Airplane and Jimi Hendrix. Another memorable event
that took place in the 1960s was the 1966 world cup which England won.
3. 1970sThe 1970s was a decade where the hippie movement decreased, youth became more interested in classic rock and heavy metal, some of the most popular artists of the 1970s were Led Zeppelin, Pink
Floyd and Queen. A notable music video that was made in the 1970s was Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. Music had a huge connection with films during the 1970s.
4. 1980sThe 1980s was a decade that was very centred around fashion, one of the most important music events of the 1980s was MTV. MTV stood for music television and was a Tv show that aired music
videos and hosted interviews with popular 1980s artists. A notable event form the 1980s was the invention of the portable telephone. Also the increasing popularity of video games was an important
trend from the 1980s.The most popular music videos of the 80s were Thriller by Michael Jackson and Take on me by Aha. Thriller was a short film that has Michael Jackson and his girlfriend in a
cinema, once they have left the cinema Michael Jackson and his girlfriend are walking down a pavement when an army of zombies approach them and Michael Jackson turns into a zombie, they then
do the thriller dance, the girlfriend runs into a house and as the zombies are about to find her, Michael Jackson appears and tells her he will take her home, as the couple leave the house, Michael
Jackson faces the camera and reveals his zombie eyes again. In Take on me Morten Harket is a moving drawing and he goes through a mirror.
