(AZA), The zoo is part of the largest
conservation organization in the nation.
10. Public Support
Public support comes from
the City of Oakland and
East Bay Regional Parks
District, which contributed
11% of the Zoo's 2017
operating budget of $18.1
million.

enjoys the Zoo

15. Safety Protocols on COVID-19
• Primary Goals
• Maintain employees and animal health and safety by limiting
contact between employees and preventing the spread of COVID-
19
• Maintain basic Zoo operations to ensure proper care of animals,
grounds, and infrastructure.
• Both shots of the vaccine are required.
• After 6 mos., a COVID-19 booster for all Zoo/SSA employees,
docents, and volunteers. The updated vaccine policy of a
mandated booster shot has been in effect and was communicated
on 1/6/22 to all staff.

The Claremont Employee Assistance Program (EAP) helps you resolve personal issues
before they become more serious and difficult to manage. You and your eligible family
members can receive professional, confidential counseling at not cost. We also provide
access to resources that can help you address virtually any personal concern or question.
Counseling Visits:
The EAP offers 5 free counseling visits
per incident per rolling 12 months for
almost any personal issue. Our staff
will work with you to find the most
appropriate counselor to meet your

24. History 101: Oakland Zoo
• 1922: Henry A. Snow,
recognized as a naturalist and
collector, establishes the
Oakland Zoo in downtown
Oakland.
• 1939: Oakland Zoo moves
from Joaquin Miller Park to
Durant Park (current
location).
25. • 1985: Joel J. Parrott, DVM,
becomes Executive Director,
implementing a 6-phase
development plan over the
next 20 years to completely
renovate the Zoo.
• 1987: The Zoo's Education
Department finishes
construction. Providing school
and community groups with

accreditation from the
