Sophie has strong employability skills in learning, communication, planning and organizing, and teamwork as demonstrated by her experiences:
1) She learned to surf by practicing techniques on land before trying in the water and was eventually able to stand on the board.
2) She communicated with a store by phone to check if a CD was in stock and then purchased it.
3) She planned and organized a drama game by assigning kids to teams and giving each a character and situation for their skit.
4) As part of a team for a play, she helped ensure everyone remembered their lines by practicing together so they stayed on script without mistakes.
2. Learning
Situation: Learn how to surf.
Task: Stand up on the board.
Action: I practised on the beach first as to how to get up
and what technique I need to use to not fall off. Once I
did that I went into the water to see if I could do it!
Result: It took me a long time to get it but I finally stood
up!
3. Communication
Situation: I wanted to know if JB-Hi-Fi had the CD
that I wanted in stock.
Task: Find out if they did.
Action: Looked up on their internet site to get the
stores number that was closest to me. I talked to
someone about what CD I wanted and if they had it.
Result: They had the cd in stock and held it until I
could pick it up.
4. Planning and Organising
Situation: Organise a drama game.
Task: Put all the kids in teams so we could put
together a skit.
Action: I let them know what they had to do (e.g. I
gave them a piece of paper to write down their
characters, then I gave them another piece of paper
with the situation their characters had to be in.)
Result: The teams all made up a successful skit with
their characters and situation they were given.
5. Team Work
Situation: Making sure that everyone has
remembered their lines for our play.
Task: Remember all your lines you have to say.
Action: Practise lines with everyone so we know who
is going to speak when so we stay to the script and
don’t get mixed up.
Result: Everyone put in the hard work and we had a
successful play.
