These are real life medical challenges that have happened to my family
#1 My mother-in-law Jan had a fall and fractured her arm, high up towards her shoulder. The 1st orthopaedic specialist she saw recommended surgery (not preferred) as the best option. Fortunately the father of a friend of my sister-in- law’s daughter was also an orthopaedic specialist. He recommended a sling and rest – Jan went with this and it worked
#2 My son Alex needed grommets for his ears. We wanted to go to a popular ear specialist on the North Shore, however the waiting list was long. As a result we went to the ear specialist he shared rooms with, even though there was opinion we heard from people who had seen him that his personal communication style was direct/ one-way. We thought all specialists would be the same – we were wrong. We went with the ear specialist with the shorter waiting list, he had to redo the grommet operation with Alex and there wasn’t the right level of communication with us explaining why – with hindsight we would have waited for the popular ear specialist
#3 By choice my wife and I went with our own obstetrician and private hospital for the birth of our 3 boys – Luke, Alex and Zac. All 3 were born by caesarean section as the safest birth option. During this procedure we had made the choice of obstetrician, however we had no involvement in the decision as to who the anaesthetist would be and no view on what the cost of his services would be until we received his invoice after the births

My wife and I have heard similar real life experiences from friends and family, and have watched on TV/ listened to the radio/ read in the newspaper or online, similar situations on too regular a basis – an indication that these experiences are systemic. What would have been really valuable to us would have been the information needed to make the choice of service provider - quality of service/ success benchmarks + price visibility

•ULTIMATE CUSTOMER USE CASE I live in Australia. I need a hip replacement.
