Battlefields trips 28th Feb to 1st March and 7th March to 8th March 2019
• Two trips of 60 students and 6 staff
• Leave Simon Balle 6am
• Euro tunnel 9.50am
• Packed lunch at Passchendaele museum 1pm
• Passchendaele museum 1.30pm
• Langemark cemetery
• Tyne Cot cemetery
• Book into hotel 5pm (Best Western Flanders Lodge, Ypres)
• Dinner 6pm - main course and dessert
• 7.10pm to the Menin Gate - 8pm the Last Post ceremony
• Conference room at the hotel 8.30pm - 10pm (quiz)
Next day
• Breakfast at 8am
• Make our own packed lunches (hotel provide the food)
• Leave 9.30am
• Essex Farm Cemetery
• Hill 60
• Sanctuary Wood 11am
• Lunch
• Flanders Field Museum 1.30pm
• Chocolate shop 3pm
• Leave Ypres 4pm
• Euro tunnel 5.50pm
• Arrive at Simon Balle around 8.45pm

• Drive to Ypres

7. Our Hotel - Flanders Lodge Hotel

8. Day 1 - Menin Gate Last Post
Ceremony
• Dinner in the hotel
• Last Post at Menin Gate and laying of a wreath

9. Day 1 – Quiz in the hotel
• After the Last Post ceremony we will return to the
hotel where we will run a quiz for the students in
their groups before bedtime

12. Day 2 – Sanctuary Wood
Preserved portions of the 1914-18 trenches

13. Day 2 – In Flanders Fields Museum

14. Day 2 The Chocolate Shop, Ypres

Day 2 – Journey home

16. • Perfect behaviour at all times
• Respect is essential; we are visiting the last
resting places of, and memorials to, thousands
of soldiers who gave their lives for their
country. Relatives are often there paying their
respects.
• No nuts due to food allergies
• No chewing gum
Expectations

17. • Wellies/old boots or trainers (with names on)in a
separate named plastic bag for Sanctuary Wood
• Warm clothing
• Towel/toiletries
• Two changes of clothes. Clothing should be both
appropriate and practical
• A bag, not a suitcase, will suffice (for the hold)
• Small rucksack for journey
• Packed lunch for Thursday lunchtime
• Euros/sterling enough for two meals/chocolate shop
