5. Research gap
•There is a growing array of new case studies (in SV-bm) to
learn from, new forms of engagement are still welcome, and
that there is enough evidence on their impact but the evidence is
far too broad or anecdotal to conclude what works or does not -

•SVCE-bm brings in new ideas worth comparing with good
working SV-bm in Zambia
•The study aims to establish SV-bm and SVCE-bm strength and
weakness to assist practitioners and policy makers with decision
making
6. Research design & methodology
•A qualitative case study using individual and group in-depth
interviews based on Ingrid Buckett Knode and SVCE-bm
template
•A purposive /judgment sampling to select a sample size of three
organizations - community Markets for Conservation
(COMACO), Diocese of Mongu Development Centre (DMDC),
Choma District Daily Co-operative, Mpima Daily Co-operative
Society
8. Discussion and analysis
• There is need to pilot SVCE-bm firm to ascertain the survival of the venture
• The SV-bm venture give rise to information asymmetries between parties –
Williamson (1987)
• Civic entrepreneurship using SVCE-bm would bring about sustainable service
delivery to communities
• Food Reserve Agency & Zambia Federation of Co-operative to use SVCE-bm as
an exit strategy for government subsidies
• Subcontracting and large scale commercial farming generate more negative than
positive externalities and therefore may not be relied upon as BMSD, Hicks
(2010), Pearce (2008)
• Give favourable tax consentions/rebates/breaks to corporations using SVCE-bm
• The SVCE-bm requires a supportive regulatory, business environment
• Potential to increase Zambian’s participation in the economy, Prowse (2008)
