Executive Summary
 Proof of Innovation and Thought Leadership 2000- 2013
This document provides an overview of Thought Leadership contributions by Shubhadha Iyer (also
referred to as “Author”, “Consultant” or “Analyst”) from 2000 to 2013 in the field of IT, Business
and Management. In addition to general writing it concerns the Business Plans and White Papers
(and Books) prepared by the author in USA, initially circulated among Investor groups/Networks,
and then followed up with promotional Blogging and online Publishing.
The author sought opportunities for professional growth by publishing papers and articles online
- a strategy that many professionals follow these days for career and business advancement. It was
to raise awareness of ideas and concepts being written about, and to initiate progressive efforts-
such as Consulting projects; Meetings and Discussions involving the author, with a view to
developing ideas considered feasible. While working to benefit organizations, the stated aim was to
allow the author to actively participate in similar initiatives in Industry and/or locate career
opportunities in compatible domains.
Date time stamps to indicate original dates and mode of publishing of books, eBooks,
documents and other communication are available in all cases and can be provided upon request.
Event Timelines are provided to give a clear view of developments. This should all serve as proof of
“early stage” Thought Leadership by the author.
Industry Overview
Promotional activities are undertaken from time to time by numerous entities in industry. While
there is a veritable information explosion now, when the author first started writing and publishing
on business topics at the turn of the century, it was much easier to see who’s done what. It was
possible to establish the thought leadership!
 Therefore, the author does feel confident in claiming a distinct head start in some areas based
on the Business Plans prepared in 2000- 2002. Recent works prepared by her have involved
more abstract high level concepts in Management. A tougher challenge, but the author has
taken steps to clearly distinguish existing information from new ideas, to minimize confusion
from “information overload”.
 In addition to Business Plans and White Papers, promotional activities included writing to
networks and online groups; and blogging (The author’s Blog on Placement practices had
25000+ views in 2011-12). The following sections examine the type and scale of impact that
resulted from each of these contributions.

Table 2 Business Plans prepared by Shubhadha Iyer in USA: 2000-2002
Date Idea/ Initiative/ Business Plan initiated by Shubhadha Iyer 2000-2002
1 March 2002 The PRIVATE UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE Product: --
A Business Plan titled “Private Unemployment Insurance” was first prepared in
2002 and sent to prospective investor groups, with copyright. At the time of
preparing this B-Plan in March 2002, the author filed a USPTO titled “Career
Insurance” for the same product. And started promoting the B Plan to the
business community. In later years (2006-2009), the B Plan was re-formatted as
a Research/ Feasibility Paper (same title and content) and published online.
The above 2002 Plan/paper proposed a mid-tier Insurance product in the
category of “Private Unemployment Insurance"-- aimed at providing funds and
career resources for people facing between-job situations and other career
contingencies. As a key differentiator, it would be offered through Private
organizations (as stated in 2002 USPTO product description filed by the author.)
2 September 2000 INDUSTRY EXPERTS Site:—The Business Plan (2002) proposed a type of web-
based HR Information Management System that comprised a database of
Experts in finely segmented industry areas, with enhanced classification to
showcase an Expert’s portfolio—termed Expert Information Management
System (EIMS). This application would also have the infrastructure to quantify
and exchange expert information over a web-based platform. In 2002,
suggested the EIMS as an add-on to existing sites and portals.
3 September 2000 TROUBLESHOOTING and DIAGNOSTICS Tools and Methodologies: Proposed —
an Expert Systems-based methodology and tool, for applications in
Troubleshooting, Diagnostics and Internal Technical Support. It would work at
Technical, Administrative and Operational levels. The novelty of this idea was in
extending AI software to Business/IT troubleshooting, as distinct from the
already existing applications in Engineering or Medical. A Business Plan was first
prepared in 2000, circulated to prospective investor and entrepreneur networks
then re-formatted as a White paper, both published online.
4 May-June 2002 OUTSOURCED ANALYSIS SERVICES: A Business Plan was prepared in 2002. This
service aimed at taking up outsourced work from bigger projects, based on the
concept of "Outsourced Analysis Services". The service category would
specialize in taking over Analysis-intensive project tasks -- be it technical,
business, systems analysis, etc. applying structured and efficient methodologies.

Over the past decade this design and
concept has been incorporated in many
websites and various online portals
including some Job Sites.
For example, an Experts Registration
link on the site.
2. OUTSOURCED ANALYSIS
SERVICES:
Proposed a model, aimed at taking up
outsourced project work from bigger
projects, initiating the concept of
"Outsourced Analysis Services" -- a
service category that would specialize
in taking over parts of a project cycle
involving analytical work at various
levels -- be it technical, business,
systems analysis, etc. using structured
and efficient methodologies.
Outsourced
Analysis Services
May-June 2002 As envisioned in the original Plan- The
practice of Business Analysis and its
Tools and applications have grown
dramatically in the last decade.
(The consultant S.Iyer- though NOT a
proponent of outsourcing, sought to
develop the Business Analysis function.
At the time this plan was written,
outsourcing services had already been
taken up by several business groups)
3. NETWORK MARKETING:
This Plan discusses the merits of
Network based Marketing, by offering
Outsourced Analytical B2B services to
a Community/ Network of Users.
Project Plan for
XYZ Networks
(Actual name(s)
not disclosed)
2002 This project was not specifically taken
up anywhere, but Network based
Marketing is now a widely deployed
strategy, primarily for online channels.
Professional and Business networks
also avail of it.
4. BUSINESS ANALYTICS:
Proposed a consulting project (in US)
aimed at researching Business Analytic
tools and applications available in the
market, based on the increasing
importance of Business Analysis tools
and methodologies in the IT
environment.
(Written as Part
of the Plan for
Outsourced
Analysis
Services)
2002 This plan drew attention to the
importance of “Analytic Tools” that
could be applied for Business Analysis
as well as Analytics-intensive projects.

March 2002 Globally, State–run Unemployment
Insurance (UI) is found in many
countries including USA and Europe.
While noting the many benefits
provided by State-run models, the
model proposed in this paper, aimed to
be different. S.Iyer’s paper highlighted
the benefits of UI offered through
Private entities.
The product proposed by S.Iyer in the
2002 Plan had two parts. The core
product idea was for “Private
Unemployment Insurance” in USA. The
paper also suggested that add-on
benefits could be derived by offering Job
and Career Services through “career/
placement networks”.
6. Tools and Methodologies-

An Expert Systems-based methodology

elements of Fault Tree Analysis (FTA),
AI Software (Expert Systems) and
applied it for Troubleshooting and
Diagnostics for IT and Business
environments.
Automated Trouble-shooting,
Maintenance and Diagnostics for
Technical Support- an Expert
System Approach
September 2000
Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) is now a part
of mainstream desktop software; and
Troubleshooting Knowledge bases in IT
support have been enhanced.
Following years saw a large number of
startups being recognized by
Entrepreneurial and VC Networks in the
field of AI software (observed 2007-
2008 onwards till date) and funding for
Expert Systems (ES) ventures.
Exact implementation of this product
design as envisioned by S. Iyer has not
been observed in industry. The
Consultant wanted to develop a Proof-
of-Concept but this plan has been held
up (so far) for lack of funding and
Entrepreneur support. The consultant
still has original ideas to develop this
concept and wants to take this up as a
future project, if given the opportunity.

7. CAREER STRATEGIES & JOB
ROLES
Business Analysis and DGM
Shubhadha Iyer popularized the BA job
role on IT projects in USA, starting
1998. Following the initial move to BA
work in the USA 1998-2000,
Shubhadha Iyer worked as BA on
various projects in India. Received a
CSBA Certification in 2010.
In 2007, Shubhadha Iyer held a DGM
(IT) position.
The Consultant’s
Career Moves

As “BA
enthusiast” the
Consultant
S.Iyer pitched
the BA job role
on IT projects--

onwards
Recent decades have seen growth in the
IT-BA segment with increasing
movement on offshore USA projects.
IT MNCs launched many drives to
augment their Business Analysis
practice, as observed from 2000-2012.
Job requirements indicate that many
BA’s were placed on IT projects onsite.

management over the past decade.
There has been a surge in people
management awareness (2004-2012).
S. Iyer forcefully pitched “small scale”
and “people entrepreneurship” (2002-
2007). These principles are aligned with
Micro- Finance, an area that has seen
many developments in the past decade.
There has been growth and
standardization in services provided by
Entrepreneurial Networks.

Early-Stage Business Plans prepared by Shubhadha Iyer
Table 2 Business Plans prepared by Shubhadha Iyer in USA: 2000-2002 listed the prominent early-
stage business ideas proposed.
 The above Plans/ Papers should demonstrate the strategic value of each idea, along with the
aptitude to spot futuristic trends with high profit potential.
 It may also be inferred that in general, ideas and views forwarded by this Consultant have a
high probability of succeeding, if allowed to develop within the opportunity time limit.
 The Plans and Promotional initiatives worked as Trendsetters and catalysts, contributed to
Improvement cycles, helped accelerate the adoption of best practices in Industry, and raised
key concepts related to product and services with high growth potential.
Trendsetting & Popularity
Shubhadha Iyer’s contributions involved visionary concepts and approaches. At one level, they had
an indirect impact in setting trends and raising Awareness of best practices. Specific
product/service ideas were also forwarded.
 Outlined in the document are trends that followed in the wake of White Papers and Plans
prepared by S.Iyer. The consultant’s activities paved the way for progress in a number of areas
while lending impetus to growing trends. A distinct “Ripple effect” could be observed and these
are constructive effects that Industry widely benefited from.
 Effects of the Consultant’s work can be analyzed in terms of- the Product or Service value,
Business impact, value in trend-setting, impact in raising popularity and related factors.
 These contributions often worked at multiple levels, often reinforcing each other. Strategies
formulated to raise popularity of a concept may also have set a general trend in that direction.
So it is the overall effect and outcomes that should be considered for impact.
 The above Trends were observed based on- Analysis of News and Business Articles in the same
domains that the consultant took initiatives in. Organizational/ industry events could be
observed in the months after the consultant made some visible move.
 The progressive sequence of events discussed here, is therefore relevant in estimating the
precedence and impact of such efforts.

Private Unemployment Insurance (UI)
Pls Note: - S. Iyer is happy that Private UI was offered in USA in 2011.
Shubhadha Iyer initiated a business plan titled “Private Unemployment Insurance” (March 2002)
while in NJ, USA.
 S.Iyer also filed a USPTO for it in NJ with product description/statement; and actively promoted
the Plan to the business community –i.e. USA-based entrepreneur networks.
 The high-level academic papers on “Private UI” that existed prior to 2002 argued the pros and
cons at the level of legislators and lawmakers in USA. These early works had established the
theoretical foundation for the Privatization of UI. However, there had been no working
product/service of this type in at least the five (5) decades before 2002 in USA.
 In contrast, S. Iyer initiated—a “Business Plan” for Private UI in 2002, at a time when there was
no large-scale commercial activity in this space, in USA. S. Iyer’s Business Plan took a product-
based view, clearly consolidating key points of existing thought, and also adding some new
points. The Plan pitched for investor attention including “new entrants”.
 In later years 2003-2006, the same Plan was shown to USA-related corporate authorities; and
promotional efforts of this type continued intermittently until 2006. From 2007 to 2010, it was
published online on a few sites.
 In the decade following 2002, there was an increase in news articles/ speculative activity –
finally, in 2011 the Private Unemployment Insurance product was offered in 2011, in USA.
Impact Assessment of the Business Plan for Private UI (2002)
 The Business Plan (2002)—was initiated just after the “early movers” (papers/ publications) in
the Private UI space and nine (9) years ahead of the US product implementation (2011).
 Significant Points of similarity may be noted between the Business Plan (2002) and the Private
UI product offered in USA, 2011.
1. Business Plan (2002) was titled: “Private Unemployment Insurance”
2. - pitched this idea as an attractive opportunity for private insurers, inviting “new entrants”
3. - pitched the same product concept and premium structure as the Private UI product in 2011
 Based on several points of similarity, the USPTO product statement and resulting B Plan
initiated in 2002 -were highly accurate in terms of macro-level strategic analysis and product
design.

AI Software for Troubleshooting
The consultant S.Iyer wrote a Business Plan in year 2000 on AI software-based “Automated
Troubleshooting” for IT/Business. This Plan was pitched to Entrepreneur networks and corporate
authorities in Silicon Valley, CA from 2000 to 2002. From 2007 to 2011, it was published online.
 Before this Plan, AI software was active in academic silos—i.e. Universities, R&D projects. And a
known diagnostic tool, within specialized fields—e.g. Aeronautical, Medical, Networks.
 The consultant had previously worked on a research project with AI software in 1989-90 and
later followed up this interest by taking a course in “Expert Systems” in USA.
 The Plan’s key differentiators -- it extended the value of AI-based Troubleshooting to IT
operations/ Tech support and Business applications. And marketed important Tools/concepts in
2000– e.g. “Diagnostic procedures” “Knowledge Based Systems”, “Rule Based architecture”.
 Since then, we find rapidly growing investor interest. By 2010, Big IT MNC’s had entered the
game with their own AI-based products- strategically applying “AI software for IT/Business
Support”, driven by the same concepts/ tools the consultant’s 2000 Paper had promoted.
 In terms of Impact, the Plan helped extend the application of AI to IT/Business environments;
and popularized futuristic high-growth areas associated with AI, for commercial application.
Improvement and Adoption Cycles
Apart from promoting ideas online, there is the matter of generating waves of awareness and
popularity around a Management, Business or Technology concept-- a tougher challenge,
requiring a great deal of persistence and energy to cut through widespread inertia. Above all- it
requires the ability to foresee, and envision the benefits of improvement at an organization &
industry level.
 Usually, it is only the Corporate and Management authorities, well-resourced Entrepreneurs
and Networking circles- that are able to pull this off successfully. But of course, their rewards
are also high, in the form of adoption of these ideas in the mainstream.
 In this regard, the Consultant has pulled off a rare feat by initiating similar efforts at the helm,
then single-handedly promoting these concepts. And these ideas were absorbed in Industry,
which means the impact was felt not just in one but many companies.
 There are high level areas such as People Management (or, AI Software) - that the author does
NOT claim to have originated! But forcefully argued the need to improve certain areas such as
Decisions --by forwarding generic arguments, and as usual --with high intellectual impact.

Business Analysis- The Past Two Decades
In recent years, the Business Analyst role has grown and diversified dramatically. But it was during
the 1990’s IT boom that a few intrepid IT Analysts ventured into the BA space (notably, Shubhadha
Iyer) and worked to add Analysis-intensive skills on IT projects. Propelled by such cross-functional
movements in the US jobs market, these trends later gathered momentum.
 In the 1990’s Business Analysis (BA) existed mostly as domain-specific or financial functions.
While not disturbing this niche, starting 1998 the author undertook high-risk career moves from
IT to BA mode. And in parallel, highlighted the value of Business Analysis to organizations.
 What we have at the turn of the century is-- the immense benefits of business analysis on IT
projects had been pointed out to industry. Companies started hiring for “BA skills” in large
numbers, on IT outsourcing projects. Business Analysts- whether Functional or Techno-
functional, have since expanded their presence in many industries.
The People Management Orientation
The author started writing for the need to improve people practices, in 2004- and argued for
improvements in decision making, team management, placement and even people management
practices in Entrepreneurship.
 Most far-reaching Management practices and paradigms go through cycles that involve not one
but several waves of advancement and adoption, sometimes spanning decades.
 People Management had similar waves generated since inception. In this context, the author
contributed to an important phase of awareness and improvement that happened in the time
frame 2003- 2012.
 The author wrote extensively on the need for Decisions, and other people management
principles. New Management ideas were also originated. All of which led to a greater strategic
focus in these areas.
 In following years, the same people management ideas were echoed in Newspapers, Business
Articles and Forums. Once again, the author’s strongly expressed views created a “viral buzz”
and reverberated across the corporate world.
 The author’s latest Book “Ideas in People Management (2013)” contains her original ideas, and
innovative models/methods presented with Ph.D.-level Management discussions.

Raising the Importance of Progressive Ideas and practices in Industry
 Entrepreneurship Services (2002- 2004) - The author’s strongly expressed views on this topic
involved emphasis on “small-scale ventures” and “people entrepreneurship”- this seems to
have spotted high-level Industry trends accurately as it was aligned with principles of Micro-
Finance, another area that witnessed growth in the past decade. Arguments were also
forwarded for raising the quality of services for aspiring Entrepreneurs.
 Job Roles and Career strategies –the more dramatic career moves made by the author, were
followed by a surge in popularity of the concerned Job Role or strategy! IT Business Analysis is
an example (Refer Table 3- Career Strategies and Job Roles).
Product and Service Ideas
The B Plans contributed to the evolution of product and service ideas in multiple domains. As
discussed, Private Unemployment Insurance- was a product idea that drew worldwide attention.
 Expert Systems (AI Software) - The author wrote to raise popularity that in some cases, involved
specific product ideas. The future potential of Troubleshooting Knowledgebase and Diagnostic
tools-- was highlighted in the year 2000!
 Outsourced Analysis Services - The profit potential of this business model was highlighted in a
2002 Business Plan (The focus of this plan was not on outsourcing which had already gathered
speed by then, but on developing the Business Analysis practice—as the author was a “BA
Enthusiast”).
 HRIMS for Industry Expertise -The importance of registering and classifying Industry expertise
online, highlighted through a Business Plan in 2000.
Future opportunities
This Consultant does not like to “rest on past laurels”. Evolving new ideas and solutions will continue
to be the key driver, though in certain cases it was necessary to analyze past trends.
 While doing so it is observed that some opportunity areas identified in the Business Plans- e.g.
outsourced business analysis, network-based marketing, and expert HRIMS have been
saturated; but there are a few more e.g.- the application of AI Software in IT/Business, that still
offer vast space for future development!

Author Profile
Shubhadha Iyer is a Management/ Business Analyst -has been in the Business/ IT field for a total of
20 years-- work experience of 13+ years in addition to Training. Progressed from Analyst to
Management level in 2007 and held a Management position as Deputy General Manager (DGM-IT).
 The author initially worked on consulting projects in USA that largely focused on IT/
Applications Analysis, then in India- primarily as mid-to-senior Business Analyst from 2002 to
2015 in several domains.
 The author wrote entrepreneurial Business Plans and White Papers in 2000-2002 and more
recently, in advanced Business Analysis and Management (2011-2013).
 Academic background comprises M.S. degree from WSU, Kansas, USA (1995) with
specialization in Computational Fluid Dynamics (Aerospace Engineering), Post-Graduate
Diploma in Business Administration (PGDBA 2010), Certification in Business Analysis (CSBA
from Quality Assurance Institute, 2010-2012) and B.Tech from IIT Bombay (Aeronautical
Engineering, 1988).
 In addition to her work in Business, Management and IT, Shubhadha Iyer has been a creative
contributor and continues to lead an active lifestyle.
Future Plans

November 2013 Prepared by Shubhadha Iyer 19
Conclusion
The author would like the following additional points to be noted concerning the works highlighted:-
 The format that the aforementioned works were initially presented in—i.e. the “Business Plan” --
refers to a general format meant for reading by prospective investors, companies and the business
community.
 The presentation format of these Plans contained important sections typically present in a high-
level action-oriented “B Plan”—the Executive Summary, Background, Market Overview & Analysis,
Cost & Benefits, and features of the proposed Product/Service.
 However, the author does not claim to have strictly followed the full-fledged Business Plan format
end to end. Some of these plans did not have a Financials section, or a Company Information
section.
 The emphasis at that point was on highlighting key aspects of the business opportunity and the
product/service concept proposed by the plan. A detailed funding requirement was not included in
most cases.
 The author/ initiator of these works, Shubhadha Iyer can be contacted at shubhadha@yahoo.com
with any questions. Readers are welcome to provide comments.

ACHIEVEMENTS IN THOUGHT LEADERSHIP 2000-2013 December 19, 2016 November 2013 Prepared by Shubhadha Iyer 5 Executive Summary  Proof of Innovation and Thought Leadership 2000- 2013 This document provides an overview of Thought Leadership contributions by Shubhadha Iyer (also referred to as “Author”, “Consultant” or “Analyst”) from 2000 to 2013 in the field of IT, Business and Management. In addition to general writing it concerns the Business Plans and White Papers (and Books) prepared by the author in USA, initially circulated among Investor groups/Networks, and then followed up with promotional Blogging and online Publishing. The author sought opportunities for professional growth by publishing papers and articles online - a strategy that many professionals follow these days for career and business advancement. It was to raise awareness of ideas and concepts being written about, and to initiate progressive efforts- such as Consulting projects; Meetings and Discussions involving the author, with a view to developing ideas considered feasible. While working to benefit organizations, the stated aim was to allow the author to actively participate in similar initiatives in Industry and/or locate career opportunities in compatible domains. Date time stamps to indicate original dates and mode of publishing of books, eBooks, documents and other communication are available in all cases and can be provided upon request. Event Timelines are provided to give a clear view of developments. This should all serve as proof of “early stage” Thought Leadership by the author. Industry Overview Promotional activities are undertaken from time to time by numerous entities in industry. While there is a veritable information explosion now, when the author first started writing and publishing on business topics at the turn of the century, it was much easier to see who’s done what. It was possible to establish the thought leadership!  Therefore, the author does feel confident in claiming a distinct head start in some areas based on the Business Plans prepared in 2000- 2002. Recent works prepared by her have involved more abstract high level concepts in Management. A tougher challenge, but the author has taken steps to clearly distinguish existing information from new ideas, to minimize confusion from “information overload”.  In addition to Business Plans and White Papers, promotional activities included writing to networks and online groups; and blogging (The author’s Blog on Placement practices had 25000+ views in 2011-12). The following sections examine the type and scale of impact that resulted from each of these contributions.

ACHIEVEMENTS IN THOUGHT LEADERSHIP 2000-2013 December 19, 2016 November 2013 Prepared by Shubhadha Iyer 7 Business Plans prepared by Shubhadha Iyer in USA: 2000-2002 Table 2 Business Plans prepared by Shubhadha Iyer in USA: 2000-2002 Date Idea/ Initiative/ Business Plan initiated by Shubhadha Iyer 2000-2002 1 March 2002 The PRIVATE UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE Product: -- A Business Plan titled “Private Unemployment Insurance” was first prepared in 2002 and sent to prospective investor groups, with copyright. At the time of preparing this B-Plan in March 2002, the author filed a USPTO titled “Career Insurance” for the same product. And started promoting the B Plan to the business community. In later years (2006-2009), the B Plan was re-formatted as a Research/ Feasibility Paper (same title and content) and published online. The above 2002 Plan/paper proposed a mid-tier Insurance product in the category of “Private Unemployment Insurance"-- aimed at providing funds and career resources for people facing between-job situations and other career contingencies. As a key differentiator, it would be offered through Private organizations (as stated in 2002 USPTO product description filed by the author.) 2 September 2000 INDUSTRY EXPERTS Site:—The Business Plan (2002) proposed a type of web- based HR Information Management System that comprised a database of Experts in finely segmented industry areas, with enhanced classification to showcase an Expert’s portfolio—termed Expert Information Management System (EIMS). This application would also have the infrastructure to quantify and exchange expert information over a web-based platform. In 2002, suggested the EIMS as an add-on to existing sites and portals. 3 September 2000 TROUBLESHOOTING and DIAGNOSTICS Tools and Methodologies: Proposed — an Expert Systems-based methodology and tool, for applications in Troubleshooting, Diagnostics and Internal Technical Support. It would work at Technical, Administrative and Operational levels. The novelty of this idea was in extending AI software to Business/IT troubleshooting, as distinct from the already existing applications in Engineering or Medical. A Business Plan was first prepared in 2000, circulated to prospective investor and entrepreneur networks then re-formatted as a White paper, both published online. 4 May-June 2002 OUTSOURCED ANALYSIS SERVICES: A Business Plan was prepared in 2002. This service aimed at taking up outsourced work from bigger projects, based on the concept of "Outsourced Analysis Services". The service category would specialize in taking over Analysis-intensive project tasks -- be it technical, business, systems analysis, etc. applying structured and efficient methodologies.

INDUSTRY EXPERTS Site: Proposed a type of web-based HRIMS that comprised a database of Experts in finely segmented industry areas, with enhanced classification to showcase an Expert’s portfolio—termed an Expert Information Management System. This application would also have the infrastructure to quantify and exchange expert information over a web-based platform. Expert Information Management System : a Web- based HRIMS for classification of Experts September 2000 Over the past decade this design and concept has been incorporated in many websites and various online portals including some Job Sites. For example, an Experts Registration link on the site. 2. OUTSOURCED ANALYSIS SERVICES: Proposed a model, aimed at taking up outsourced project work from bigger projects, initiating the concept of "Outsourced Analysis Services" -- a service category that would specialize in taking over parts of a project cycle involving analytical work at various levels -- be it technical, business, systems analysis, etc. using structured and efficient methodologies. Outsourced Analysis Services May-June 2002 As envisioned in the original Plan- The practice of Business Analysis and its Tools and applications have grown dramatically in the last decade. (The consultant S.Iyer- though NOT a proponent of outsourcing, sought to develop the Business Analysis function. At the time this plan was written, outsourcing services had already been taken up by several business groups) 3. NETWORK MARKETING: This Plan discusses the merits of Network based Marketing, by offering Outsourced Analytical B2B services to a Community/ Network of Users. Project Plan for XYZ Networks (Actual name(s) not disclosed) 2002 This project was not specifically taken up anywhere, but Network based Marketing is now a widely deployed strategy, primarily for online channels. Professional and Business networks also avail of it. 4. BUSINESS ANALYTICS: Proposed a consulting project (in US) aimed at researching Business Analytic tools and applications available in the market, based on the increasing importance of Business Analysis tools and methodologies in the IT environment. (Written as Part of the Plan for Outsourced Analysis Services) 2002 This plan drew attention to the importance of “Analytic Tools” that could be applied for Business Analysis as well as Analytics-intensive projects.

PRIVATE UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE Product: Proposed a mid-tier Insurance product in the category of "Career Insurance" or "Private Unemployment Insurance"- - aimed at providing career resources for people facing between-job situations and other career contingencies. Private Unemployment Insurance (Business Plan, 2002; B Plan converted in 2006 to White Paper/ Feasibility Study format for online display) March 2002 Globally, State–run Unemployment Insurance (UI) is found in many countries including USA and Europe. While noting the many benefits provided by State-run models, the model proposed in this paper, aimed to be different. S.Iyer’s paper highlighted the benefits of UI offered through Private entities. The product proposed by S.Iyer in the 2002 Plan had two parts. The core product idea was for “Private Unemployment Insurance” in USA. The paper also suggested that add-on benefits could be derived by offering Job and Career Services through “career/ placement networks”. 6. Tools and Methodologies- TROUBLESHOOTING &DIAGNOSTICS: An Expert Systems-based methodology for applications in the Troubleshooting and Internal Technical Support arena. Product design brought together elements of Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), AI Software (Expert Systems) and applied it for Troubleshooting and Diagnostics for IT and Business environments. Automated Trouble-shooting, Maintenance and Diagnostics for Technical Support- an Expert System Approach September 2000 Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) is now a part of mainstream desktop software; and Troubleshooting Knowledge bases in IT support have been enhanced. Following years saw a large number of startups being recognized by Entrepreneurial and VC Networks in the field of AI software (observed 2007- 2008 onwards till date) and funding for Expert Systems (ES) ventures. Exact implementation of this product design as envisioned by S. Iyer has not been observed in industry. The Consultant wanted to develop a Proof- of-Concept but this plan has been held up (so far) for lack of funding and Entrepreneur support. The consultant still has original ideas to develop this concept and wants to take this up as a future project, if given the opportunity.

CAREER STRATEGIES & JOB ROLES Business Analysis and DGM Shubhadha Iyer popularized the BA job role on IT projects in USA, starting 1998. Following the initial move to BA work in the USA 1998-2000, Shubhadha Iyer worked as BA on various projects in India. Received a CSBA Certification in 2010. In 2007, Shubhadha Iyer held a DGM (IT) position. The Consultant’s Career Moves are as indicated by Events that took place in the given time frame As “BA enthusiast” the Consultant S.Iyer pitched the BA job role on IT projects-- January 1998 onwards Recent decades have seen growth in the IT-BA segment with increasing movement on offshore USA projects. IT MNCs launched many drives to augment their Business Analysis practice, as observed from 2000-2012. Job requirements indicate that many BA’s were placed on IT projects onsite. MANAGEMENT: 8. People Management practices 9. Entrepreneurship Services Arguments and ideas are contained in the Books written by the consultant in 2007 and 2013-- on people management People Management (2004- present) Entrepreneurshi p (2002-2007) The consultant wrote extensively on management over the past decade. There has been a surge in people management awareness (2004-2012). S. Iyer forcefully pitched “small scale” and “people entrepreneurship” (2002- 2007). These principles are aligned with Micro- Finance, an area that has seen many developments in the past decade. There has been growth and standardization in services provided by Entrepreneurial Networks.
  • 11. ACHIEVEMENTS IN THOUGHT LEADERSHIP 2000-2013 December 19, 2016 November 2013 Prepared by Shubhadha Iyer 11 Early-Stage Business Plans prepared by Shubhadha Iyer Table 2 Business Plans prepared by Shubhadha Iyer in USA: 2000-2002 listed the prominent early- stage business ideas proposed.  The above Plans/ Papers should demonstrate the strategic value of each idea, along with the aptitude to spot futuristic trends with high profit potential.  It may also be inferred that in general, ideas and views forwarded by this Consultant have a high probability of succeeding, if allowed to develop within the opportunity time limit.  The Plans and Promotional initiatives worked as Trendsetters and catalysts, contributed to Improvement cycles, helped accelerate the adoption of best practices in Industry, and raised key concepts related to product and services with high growth potential. Trendsetting & Popularity Shubhadha Iyer’s contributions involved visionary concepts and approaches. At one level, they had an indirect impact in setting trends and raising Awareness of best practices. Specific product/service ideas were also forwarded.  Outlined in the document are trends that followed in the wake of White Papers and Plans prepared by S.Iyer. The consultant’s activities paved the way for progress in a number of areas while lending impetus to growing trends. A distinct “Ripple effect” could be observed and these are constructive effects that Industry widely benefited from.  Effects of the Consultant’s work can be analyzed in terms of- the Product or Service value, Business impact, value in trend-setting, impact in raising popularity and related factors.  These contributions often worked at multiple levels, often reinforcing each other. Strategies formulated to raise popularity of a concept may also have set a general trend in that direction. So it is the overall effect and outcomes that should be considered for impact.  The above Trends were observed based on- Analysis of News and Business Articles in the same domains that the consultant took initiatives in. Organizational/ industry events could be observed in the months after the consultant made some visible move.  The progressive sequence of events discussed here, is therefore relevant in estimating the precedence and impact of such efforts.
  • 12. ACHIEVEMENTS IN THOUGHT LEADERSHIP 2000-2013 December 19, 2016 November 2013 Prepared by Shubhadha Iyer 12 Private Unemployment Insurance (UI) Pls Note: - S. Iyer is happy that Private UI was offered in USA in 2011. Shubhadha Iyer initiated a business plan titled “Private Unemployment Insurance” (March 2002) while in NJ, USA.  S.Iyer also filed a USPTO for it in NJ with product description/statement; and actively promoted the Plan to the business community –i.e. USA-based entrepreneur networks.  The high-level academic papers on “Private UI” that existed prior to 2002 argued the pros and cons at the level of legislators and lawmakers in USA. These early works had established the theoretical foundation for the Privatization of UI. However, there had been no working product/service of this type in at least the five (5) decades before 2002 in USA.  In contrast, S. Iyer initiated—a “Business Plan” for Private UI in 2002, at a time when there was no large-scale commercial activity in this space, in USA. S. Iyer’s Business Plan took a product- based view, clearly consolidating key points of existing thought, and also adding some new points. The Plan pitched for investor attention including “new entrants”.  In later years 2003-2006, the same Plan was shown to USA-related corporate authorities; and promotional efforts of this type continued intermittently until 2006. From 2007 to 2010, it was published online on a few sites.  In the decade following 2002, there was an increase in news articles/ speculative activity – finally, in 2011 the Private Unemployment Insurance product was offered in 2011, in USA. Impact Assessment of the Business Plan for Private UI (2002)  The Business Plan (2002)—was initiated just after the “early movers” (papers/ publications) in the Private UI space and nine (9) years ahead of the US product implementation (2011).  Significant Points of similarity may be noted between the Business Plan (2002) and the Private UI product offered in USA, 2011. 1. Business Plan (2002) was titled: “Private Unemployment Insurance” 2. - pitched this idea as an attractive opportunity for private insurers, inviting “new entrants” 3. - pitched the same product concept and premium structure as the Private UI product in 2011  Based on several points of similarity, the USPTO product statement and resulting B Plan initiated in 2002 -were highly accurate in terms of macro-level strategic analysis and product design.
  • 13. ACHIEVEMENTS IN THOUGHT LEADERSHIP 2000-2013 December 19, 2016 November 2013 Prepared by Shubhadha Iyer 13 AI Software for Troubleshooting The consultant S.Iyer wrote a Business Plan in year 2000 on AI software-based “Automated Troubleshooting” for IT/Business. This Plan was pitched to Entrepreneur networks and corporate authorities in Silicon Valley, CA from 2000 to 2002. From 2007 to 2011, it was published online.  Before this Plan, AI software was active in academic silos—i.e. Universities, R&D projects. And a known diagnostic tool, within specialized fields—e.g. Aeronautical, Medical, Networks.  The consultant had previously worked on a research project with AI software in 1989-90 and later followed up this interest by taking a course in “Expert Systems” in USA.  The Plan’s key differentiators -- it extended the value of AI-based Troubleshooting to IT operations/ Tech support and Business applications. And marketed important Tools/concepts in 2000– e.g. “Diagnostic procedures” “Knowledge Based Systems”, “Rule Based architecture”.  Since then, we find rapidly growing investor interest. By 2010, Big IT MNC’s had entered the game with their own AI-based products- strategically applying “AI software for IT/Business Support”, driven by the same concepts/ tools the consultant’s 2000 Paper had promoted.  In terms of Impact, the Plan helped extend the application of AI to IT/Business environments; and popularized futuristic high-growth areas associated with AI, for commercial application. Improvement and Adoption Cycles Apart from promoting ideas online, there is the matter of generating waves of awareness and popularity around a Management, Business or Technology concept-- a tougher challenge, requiring a great deal of persistence and energy to cut through widespread inertia. Above all- it requires the ability to foresee, and envision the benefits of improvement at an organization & industry level.  Usually, it is only the Corporate and Management authorities, well-resourced Entrepreneurs and Networking circles- that are able to pull this off successfully. But of course, their rewards are also high, in the form of adoption of these ideas in the mainstream.  In this regard, the Consultant has pulled off a rare feat by initiating similar efforts at the helm, then single-handedly promoting these concepts. And these ideas were absorbed in Industry, which means the impact was felt not just in one but many companies.  There are high level areas such as People Management (or, AI Software) - that the author does NOT claim to have originated! But forcefully argued the need to improve certain areas such as Decisions --by forwarding generic arguments, and as usual --with high intellectual impact.
  • 14. ACHIEVEMENTS IN THOUGHT LEADERSHIP 2000-2013 December 19, 2016 November 2013 Prepared by Shubhadha Iyer 14 Business Analysis- The Past Two Decades In recent years, the Business Analyst role has grown and diversified dramatically. But it was during the 1990’s IT boom that a few intrepid IT Analysts ventured into the BA space (notably, Shubhadha Iyer) and worked to add Analysis-intensive skills on IT projects. Propelled by such cross-functional movements in the US jobs market, these trends later gathered momentum.  In the 1990’s Business Analysis (BA) existed mostly as domain-specific or financial functions. While not disturbing this niche, starting 1998 the author undertook high-risk career moves from IT to BA mode. And in parallel, highlighted the value of Business Analysis to organizations.  What we have at the turn of the century is-- the immense benefits of business analysis on IT projects had been pointed out to industry. Companies started hiring for “BA skills” in large numbers, on IT outsourcing projects. Business Analysts- whether Functional or Techno- functional, have since expanded their presence in many industries. The People Management Orientation The author started writing for the need to improve people practices, in 2004- and argued for improvements in decision making, team management, placement and even people management practices in Entrepreneurship.  Most far-reaching Management practices and paradigms go through cycles that involve not one but several waves of advancement and adoption, sometimes spanning decades.  People Management had similar waves generated since inception. In this context, the author contributed to an important phase of awareness and improvement that happened in the time frame 2003- 2012.  The author wrote extensively on the need for Decisions, and other people management principles. New Management ideas were also originated. All of which led to a greater strategic focus in these areas.  In following years, the same people management ideas were echoed in Newspapers, Business Articles and Forums. Once again, the author’s strongly expressed views created a “viral buzz” and reverberated across the corporate world.  The author’s latest Book “Ideas in People Management (2013)” contains her original ideas, and innovative models/methods presented with Ph.D.-level Management discussions.
  • 15. ACHIEVEMENTS IN THOUGHT LEADERSHIP 2000-2013 December 19, 2016 November 2013 Prepared by Shubhadha Iyer 15 Raising the Importance of Progressive Ideas and practices in Industry  Entrepreneurship Services (2002- 2004) - The author’s strongly expressed views on this topic involved emphasis on “small-scale ventures” and “people entrepreneurship”- this seems to have spotted high-level Industry trends accurately as it was aligned with principles of Micro- Finance, another area that witnessed growth in the past decade. Arguments were also forwarded for raising the quality of services for aspiring Entrepreneurs.  Job Roles and Career strategies –the more dramatic career moves made by the author, were followed by a surge in popularity of the concerned Job Role or strategy! IT Business Analysis is an example (Refer Table 3- Career Strategies and Job Roles). Product and Service Ideas The B Plans contributed to the evolution of product and service ideas in multiple domains. As discussed, Private Unemployment Insurance- was a product idea that drew worldwide attention.  Expert Systems (AI Software) - The author wrote to raise popularity that in some cases, involved specific product ideas. The future potential of Troubleshooting Knowledgebase and Diagnostic tools-- was highlighted in the year 2000!  Outsourced Analysis Services - The profit potential of this business model was highlighted in a 2002 Business Plan (The focus of this plan was not on outsourcing which had already gathered speed by then, but on developing the Business Analysis practice—as the author was a “BA Enthusiast”).  HRIMS for Industry Expertise -The importance of registering and classifying Industry expertise online, highlighted through a Business Plan in 2000. Future opportunities This Consultant does not like to “rest on past laurels”. Evolving new ideas and solutions will continue to be the key driver, though in certain cases it was necessary to analyze past trends.  While doing so it is observed that some opportunity areas identified in the Business Plans- e.g. outsourced business analysis, network-based marketing, and expert HRIMS have been saturated; but there are a few more e.g.- the application of AI Software in IT/Business, that still offer vast space for future development!

ACHIEVEMENTS IN THOUGHT LEADERSHIP 2000-2013 December 19, 2016 November 2013 Prepared by Shubhadha Iyer 16 Summary The Consultant Shubhadha Iyer prepared Business Plans as an effective way to demonstrate her innovative and strategic thinking, grasp of macro-level trends, and Business Consulting talent. A series of Business Plans was prepared independently and pushed to the business community.  It can be observed that- USA industry has derived significant all-round benefit from this work, and also the way important concepts and ideas were promoted! The path taken in this case was a lot more “catalytic”, “energizing”!  In retrospect, the Consultant accomplished through distinctive works of Thought Leadership-  Raised awareness of important ideas/ concepts that would see heightened activity and growth in the following years; pointed out new profitable ways to extend an area of application—in areas with high investment potential; and bridged the critical gap between exalted academia and commercial ventures, at an accelerated pace!  Wrote extensively on ideas and concepts that experienced waves of awareness, popularity and accelerated adoption cycles in Industry.  Popularized methods and tools that are now industry standard  Actively participated in the Improvement Cycles that happened in certain areas.  Acted as a catalyst, supporting the introduction and absorption of best practices. • 19. ACHIEVEMENTS IN THOUGHT LEADERSHIP 2000-2013 December 19, 2016 November 2013 Prepared by Shubhadha Iyer 19 Conclusion The author would like the following additional points to be noted concerning the works highlighted:-  The format that the aforementioned works were initially presented in—i.e. the “Business Plan” -- refers to a general format meant for reading by prospective investors, companies and the business community.  The presentation format of these Plans contained important sections typically present in a high- level action-oriented “B Plan”—the Executive Summary, Background, Market Overview & Analysis, Cost & Benefits, and features of the proposed Product/Service.  However, the author does not claim to have strictly followed the full-fledged Business Plan format end to end. Some of these plans did not have a Financials section, or a Company Information section.  The emphasis at that point was on highlighting key aspects of the business opportunity and the product/service concept proposed by the plan. A detailed funding requirement was not included in most cases.  The author/ initiator of these works, Shubhadha Iyer can be contacted at shubhadha@yahoo.com with any questions. Readers are welcome to provide comments.
