A poor shoemaker discovers beautiful pairs of finished shoes on his workbench each morning. This continues every night, making him very successful. He and his wife hide and see two elves crafting the shoes. They make the elves clothes as a gift. The elves are grateful and never return, but the shoemaker is forever thankful for their help.

1. The Shoemaker and the Elves

2. Once upon a time there was a poor shoemaker who
lived with his wife. One night before he went to
bed, he cut out the last piece of his leather and
laid it on the table.

3. The next morning, he awoke early and went down
to his workshop. On his bench he found a beautiful
pair of shoes!

4. The shoes were so beautiful that when someone
came to try them on they paid twice as much as
the shoemaker had asked for them!

5. With the money, the shoemaker bought new
leather and laid out to work on the next day. The
next morning, he was amazed to find two beautiful
pairs of shoes standing on his table!

6. This continued for many nights, until the
shoemaker's shelves were filled with beautiful
shoes like no one had ever seen before. Soon the
shoemaker became a very rich man.

7. One night shoemaker and his wife were sitting by
the fire and thinking about who has been helping
them. So,they decided to hide inside the shop.

8. They were very surprised to see two small elves
come into the shop and stitch the shoes together
carefully. But the poor little elves wore no clothes!

9. The next day shoemaker’s wife made two little
shirts, two tiny pairs of trousers and some socks
for them. The elves were so overjoyed that they
danced and sang with delight!

10. The shoemaker and his wife never saw the elves
again but they were forever grateful to them for
showing them how to make beautiful shoes.
