Medical images are used for diagnosis, treatment planning, disease monitoring and
image guided surgery and are acquired using a variety of imaging modalities like
Computer Tomography (CT), X-ray, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Positron
Emission Tomography (PET), Ultrasound, etc. So images obtained using different
modalities need to be compared to one another and/or combined for better analysis
and decision making for the treatment of the disease.
