2. 1. Panda Algorithm :
Early in 2011, Google launched Panda, a search results
algorithm which aimed to help filter out websites with thin,
low quality content. Google is constantly, to this day,
battling low quality content, with new updates being
released routinely to deal with the problem. However,
Panda was one of the most significant updates in Google’s
history. This was the start of a series of major control
checks. Google Panda reduced the amount of poorly
constructed, spammy content from the search results pages
(SERPs), helping to enable higher quality websites to rise to
the top.
3. 2.Penguin Algorithm :
Google Penguin was a
codename for a Google
algorithm update that was
first announced on April 24,
2012. The update was aimed
at decreasing search engine
rankings of websites that
violate Google's Webmaster
Guidelines by using now
declared Grey Hat SEM techniques involved in increasing
artificially the ranking of a webpage by manipulating the
number of links pointing to the page. Such tactics are
commonly described as link schemes. According to Google's
John Mueller, as of 2013, Google announced all updates to the
Penguin filter to the public. This algorithms has destroyed of
Black Hat SEO.
3.Google Payday Algorithms :
4. Google Payday algorithm is a set of different algorithm
updates whose main purpose is to identify and penalize the
websites that uses search engine spam techniques to improve
their ranks and traffic.Google algorithm changes struck like a
lightning bolt for spammy queries. Google Payday, first rolled
out on June 11, 2013, mostly countered top-tier Blackhat SEOs
who utilized a variety of spamming techniques to improve
their search engine rankings.
It is commonly known as spamdexing in blackhat terms.
Heavy traffic keywords are associated with payday loans,
finance, Viagra, diet supplements, weight loss and
pornographic websites. Those who operate in these niches use
countless black hat methods to try and rank higher in search
engines. The content is generally low, spammy, duplicate or
unoriginal in nature.
4. Hummingbird Algorithm :
5. Google Hummingbird is undoubtedly bigger than Panda, Penguin and
other changes combined. That’s because it fundamentally changes the
whole engine behind the operations. Think of it as an older model car
getting a newer engine while using certain previous parts such as
Penguin and Panda.
With Google Hummingbird, keyword targeting searches are changed
to adapt towards conversational queries. Instead of giving search
results based on keywords, Google of today utilizes semantic indexing,
knowledge graphs and query rewriting to get the intent of query. With
its database, Google collects information about its individual users
and then generates search results based on the location, keyword, and
intent of the query.
Search engine optimization changed with the addition of
"Hummingbird", with web developers and writers encouraged to use
natural language when writing on their websites rather than using
forced keywords. They were also advised to make effective use of
technical website features, such as page linking, on-page elements
including title tags, URL addresses and HTML tags, as well as writing
high-quality, relevant content without duplication. While keywords
within the query still continue to be important, "Hummingbird" adds
more strength to long-tailed keywords, effectively catering to the
optimization of content rather than just keywords. The use of
synonyms has also been optimized; instead of listing results with exact
phrases or keywords, Google shows more theme-related results.
5.Pigeon Algorithm :
6. Pigeon is an algorithm introduced on July 24, 2014, which was created
for more efficient local search results in Google. Therefore, its main
function is to correctly match local results to detailed user queries.
The changes will also affect the search results shown in Google Maps
along with the regular Google search results. As of the initial release
date, it was released in US English and was intended to shortly be
released in other languages and locations. This update provides the
results based on the user location and the listing available in the local
directory.
6. Rank Brain Algorithm :
7. RankBrain is a machine learning-based search engine algorithm, the
use of which was confirmed by Google on 26 October 2015. It helps
Google to process search results and provide more relevant search
results for users. In a 2015 interview, Google commented that
RankBrain was the third most important factor in the ranking
algorithm along with links and content. As of 2015, "RankBrain was
used for less than 15% of queries."The results show that RankBrain
produces results that are well within 10% of the Google search engine
engineer team.
7. Mobile geddon :
8. Mobilegeddon is a name for Google's search engine algorithm update
of April 21, 2015.
The main effect of this update was to give priority to websites that
display well on smartphones and other mobile devices. The change
did not affect searches made from a desktop computer or a laptop.
Google announced its intention to make the change in February 2015.
In addition to their announcement, Google published an article,
"Mobile Friendly Sites," on their Google Developers page to help
webmasters with the transition. Google claims the transition to
mobile-friendly sites was to improve user experience, stating "the
desktop version of a site might be difficult to view and use on a
mobile device."
8. Fred :
9. Google Roll out this update on 7 march 2017.Google’s Fred algorithm
update rolled out in an attempt to remove what Google perceived as
low-quality results — sites that relied on thin content and aggressive
ad placement. Many were affiliate sites, though not all. The majority
used content as their primary traffic driver. Ordinarily, we hear Google
telling folks to do just that. However, the quality of the content on the
affected sites tended to be very low, with highly prevalent ads. You
know the sites. You probably avoid them.
9. Helpful Content Update :
10. Google roll out this update in December 2022. This algorithm update
aims to help searchers find “high-quality content,” Google told us.
Google wants to reward better and more useful content that was
written for humans and to help users. Searchers get frustrated when
they land on unhelpful webpages that rank well in search because
they were written for the purpose of ranking in search engines.
This is the type of content you might call “search engine-first content”
or “SEO content.” Google’s helpful content algorithm aims to
downgrade those types of websites while promoting more helpful
websites, designed for humans, above search engines.
10. Page Experience Update :
This update will include all the current signals of the mobile version of
the page experience update, outside of the page needing to be
11. mobile-friendly. Google said all of the page experience factors for
mobile will be included with the exception of the mobile-friendliness
requirement, which is kind of obvious.
Page experience is made up of several existing Google search ranking
factors, including the mobile-friendly update, Page Speed Update, the
HTTPS ranking boost, the intrusive interstitials penalty, safe browsing
penalty, while refining metrics around speed and usability. These
refinements are under what Google calls Core Web Vitals. Please note,
Google dropped the safe browsing factor last year from the page
experience update.Update on February 22, 2022:
11. Core Update :
A core update is a significant change Google makes to its ranking
algorithm that affects a large number of indexed web pages. They
occur about once every two or three months on average. Core updates
are designed to improve the quality and relevance of Google’s search
results by shuffling the search rankings of indexed web pages. Each
core update tweaks the formula by which Google ranks web pages.
12. Web pages that ranked high for their target keywords may rank low
after a core update. Conversely, web pages that ranked low for their
target keywords may rank high following the rollout.
