Attitudes-The most insidious of all barriers. What is the impact that this thinking has upon synagogue inclusion and people with disabilities and their families vis a vis helping them to feel that they belong?
In other words, we don’t do thing
Inclusion starts with a vision. A statement of what your congregation will look like once you’ve achieved your goals which is….(brainstorm)Go back to today. What is the foundation-what have you done thus far? And then you start at the current level and write your plan of action. Good intentions alone…if you are to succeed, then you have to have a foundation built on good intentions and create the action based on not just good intentions but on the needs and wants, hopes and dreams.
The tendency is to move forward quickly but I caution you! This is a mindful process, one that is unique to every synagogue and agency.
No one does this alone. Cite inclusion committees-process to start is on my website. There has to be a means to convert the action objectives into practice. It takes everyone to make this happen. Think about your congregation. Who do you want and need to get on board? (discussion) and why?
