Public Charge – When is it Safe to use Public Benefits?
 Use of Medi-Cal, or other health programs will NOT AFFECT the public charge decision UNLESS
you use those funds to pay for long-term care (nursing home).
 Use of CalFresh (food stamps), WIC, Public Housing or other Non-cash programs, will NOT
AFFECT the public charge decision.
 Use of cash welfare by your children will NOT AFFECT the public charge decision.
 If your children or other family members used cash welfare (such as CalWORKs or SSI), it will
