On the 13/2/2020, I left from Gurgaon sector 48 to Hero Honda chowk on auto and reached
at 8:30 PM. After having to wait for about 40 minutes for the bus to arrive, I finally was
inside the bus at around 9:10 PM.
The bus stopped in between for dinner at around 11:00 PM near the Rajasthan border. The
bus reached the destination, Udaipur, at 9:00 AM. From the income tax office Udaipur, the
last stopping place, I took an auto to the Bus stop. I immediately got a bus to Dungarpur
which left at 9:30 AM.
After reaching Dungarpur at around 11:30 AM and checking into Hotel RamNiwas,
freshening up and having my lunch, I met Mr. Janmejaya at around 1:45 PM and we together
left to Ratanpur road, Bohra Musafir khana complex.
We met Mr. Yogesh, owner of the “Yogesh Energy Services”, a Waaree established solar
franchise selling products such as Solar panels, inverter, and battery. I briefed him about the
requirements and give him the dimensions of the solar panel. He told us that he had 3
fixtures at the time, and he would be willing to do the installation, transportation for INR
10.5/ watt.
Later at 2:50 PM, I met with Mr. Keshav and together went to Dungarpur “Renewable
Energy Technologies Pvt.Ltd”, it is a solar cell manufacturing place where there are only
tribal women workers in the manufacturing unit. We were taken around the manufacturing
complex by Mr. Jugal Kishore. Unfortunately, they did not make fixtures, but Mr. Jugal had
told us that he would be able to procure us the fixtures in 4-5 days.
We went looking for other suppliers but unfortunately had no luck, the fabricators we met
also said they would need the dimensions and it would take 4-5 days for them to fabricate the
solar panel stand/fixture.

Starting my day at 9:30 AM, I went to the Dungarpur office and by then, Mr. Keshav and
Mr. Janmejaya had already received the solar panels that had arrived from the Gurgaon
office. A total of 9 panels, 4 cabinets, and 4 Cleo units had been unloaded. Transportation
arrangements for 2 panels, 2 Cleo units, and 2 solar panels were made, and, we together left
for Ghata village on the same transport truck. We had reached Ghata Anganwadi at around
11:10 AM.
1 solar panel, 1 Cleo unit and 1 cabinet were unloaded at Ghata for installation. After Mr.
Jibin had a telephonic conversation with the Anganwadi teacher of Ghata and clarifying
them about the purpose of the installation and its uses to the school children, we proceeded
with the installation of solar panels. The panel foundation was drilled facing the southeast
direction and the front leg and the back leg made an angle of 23° which is the optimum tilt
for Dungarpur. The other solar panel, Cleo unit, and cabinet was transported to Renta village
on the same day.
Since there were changes made, suggesting a 4-leg support fixture instead of a 2-leg support
system, Mr. Keshav, and Mr. Naushad, the installer had gone back to Dungarpur to get the
material. Also, the screws to wall mount the cabinets were missing and they bought them
too. The school had been closed for the day and the Anganwadi teacher had handed over the
keys to me and let us use the classroom for the following day’s inauguration and training
session. Anganwadi classrooms are for children between 3-5 years and only these children
make use of the rooms. Anybody wanting to use laptops or other devices connected to CLEO
units would have to use the system when the Anganwadi classes are dismissed for the day.
There are also other classrooms for children between 5- 15years and we, unfortunately, did
not have permission to install the units there. We will hopefully finish the installation of the
panels today with the four-legged fixture and also wall-mount the cabinets. If everything is
done by the end of the day and if there is still sun in the sky, we will also check the charging
rate of the Cleo unit.
The 4-leg fixture had arrived by 5:30 PM. Mr. Keshav and Mr. Naushad had also bought the
required screws for Cleo cabinet wall mounting. By 6:40 PM we had installed the solar
panels on the top of the roof of the Anganwadi. Cement, sand, and gravel were also mixed in
proportions and applied onto the fixture foundation to hold the structure tight. Holes were
also drilled on the walls on the same day to mount the cabinets and the Cleo units were kept
inside the cabinets.
I had also coordinated with Mr. Janmejaya and the MCS team regarding the following day’s
training activity. We had left Ghata around 8:30 PM after installation of solar panels and
Cleo units and reached Dungarpur at around 9:10 PM by auto.

Starting the day at 9:00 AM, I went to the office to meet Janmejaya and we left for Ghata
taking attendance sheets and response formats. Mr. Swayang had told me about the collect
app the previous day. Since it was Sunday, it was difficult on that day to get the banners
ready. We went forward as planned and by 10:30 PM we reached Ghata taking our laptop,
the pre and post questionnaire and a spirit to teach.
Early morning, we saw that the charging rate was lesser than expected and we sorted it out
with the help of Mr. Yogesh, our installer. Mr. Janmejaya had done mobilization, while I and
Mrs. Lalita cleaned the Anganwadi and set up the training environment. By 11:30 PM,
around 35 had gathered including 5 elderly, the sarpanch, parents of few trainees. The
inauguration was made by the sarpanch and the ribbon was cut by a little girl.
Mr. Janmejaya introduced me to the crowd and I briefed them about the importance of the
digital world, the need for renewable energy, their abundance, and stressed on girl's
education. They all seem to agree upon the need to change and to take education seriously. I
showed the Sarpanch and the few elders the device and briefed them on how to operate it and
how the current is being derived from solar panel installed on the rooftop. I also told them to
ensure that the Cleo unit is used for education purposes only and not for personal needs.
The actual training session for the youth began by noon. Before I gave them the pre-
assessment test format, I briefed them about general concepts on electricity and energy. They
had a basic understanding of some concepts, but they were very quick to grasp things. Mrs.
Lalitha, the caretaker was also one of the participants. Starting with 3 participants initially, 2
other girls had later joined the session.
The participants included:
1) Ms. Kausalya Ahari
2) Ms. Durga Bharanda
3) Ms. Anita Nanoma
4) Ms. Sheela Nanoma
5) Ms. Seema Bharanda
6) Ms. Lalitha Ahari
I started with session 1 at 12:30 AM and by 2:30 PM, I had completed both the session 1 and
2. After the session we had participants speak up and explain to the rest of the class what
they had learned. I also made them write some key points and gave them tips on how to
remember with a single letter memory technique. Using a letter to trigger the memory
worked very well and they were able to remember what units are used for current, voltage
and power. They were able to learn concepts of DC and AC too. They understood global
warming and were able to concur with how carbon is responsible for the increase in Earth’s
temperature. We also made schematics and drawings to under concept easy.
After the lunch break, I resumed the last session with the participants demonstrating their
knowledge on the Cleo units. I had taught them how to switch on the device, and to turn it
off, gave examples of when to use the machine and what are the compatible devices and how
to find out its compatibility. They also were trained in solving simple problems of finding
power with just voltage and current. Charging rate calculation was also received well by
them. The last session went on until 3:40 PM and I gave them the post-assessment test to
take. They had completed the test by 4:00 PM.
I witnessed a lot of improvement in their confidence level too and they were much more
interactive in the end and also put forth questions. After discussing the correct answers to the
questions and further motivating them, I and Mr. Janmejaya left for Dungarpur by auto
rickshaw.
I had also checked for the European to Indian adapter and I was told that they are available
right below our office in Dungarpur and they cost Rs.180 each.

Starting the day at around 9:00 AM, I first went to the office, and since the banner was
available only after 10:45 AM, we had to wait to receive it and then proceed to Vaktapur.
We left for Vaktapur at around 11:00 AM and reached the place at around 12:20 PM. The
place belongs to the Simalwada block and is about 56 km from Dungarpur. The school and
the Anganwadi are situated in the interior of the village and the location is very serene. We
were welcomed by the principal Mr. Madan Singh. The school has about 9 teachers and it is
one of the most recognized schools in the place and they conduct cultural ceremonies thrice a
year and the principal believes his students have great IQ and that one day they will be
recognized as one of the best government schools. Even teachers have a daily uniform here.
Mr. Janmejaya had previously coordinated with Ms. Leela Kumari and by 1:45 PM the
training room was set up and the inauguration was done by the principal. A Little kid cut the
ribbon along with the Principal. The teachers of the school, parents of children, many little
children, training attendees were part of the inauguration. Mr. Janmejaya had introduced me
to the gathering and briefed about the program. I addressed the gathering and thanked the
principal for his generosity and his warm welcome. I also briefed the gathering about the
project and what it will mean to them and how they could make use of it. I also briefed them
about the importance of renewables and ended my part, asked the principal to also address
the gathering.
After he delivered his words and urged the gathering to make use of the systems, we ended
the inauguration session at around 2:20 PM. I started the training session with 3 youth
initially, all women above the age of 18 years. Later after a few minutes, the training session
had an additional 3 more youth of which 2 were above 18 and one was of the age 15
The participants included:
1) Ms. Leela Kumari Damor
2) Mr. Rakesh Damor
3) Mr. Mukesh Damor
4) Ms. Lakshmi Kumari Damor
5) Ms. Manjula Kumari Damor
6) Mr. Lalit Kumar Damor
7) Ms. Yashoda Kumari Damor
8) Ms. Meena Kumari Damor
Before I took the first session, I asked them if they knew any electrical concepts and they did
know some of the basic things about electricity and energy. I also briefed a few concepts
before I gave them the pre-assessment test to take. Mr. Rakesh and Ms. Yashoda were the
top performers and have a score of 6 and 5 out of 12 respectively. Ms. Manjula Kumari
Damor who had come late to the training also took the pre-assessment test later and has a
score of 8. The participants had explained what they had learned to her. The rest of the
participants have a score of 3-4 but they all had an understanding that solar is responsible for
lower carbon emission and that coal is responsible for higher carbon emission.
I took the first session from 2:40 PM to 3:40 PM and took a lunch break after that. Starting
the session again by 4:00 PM, we had 2 more addition Ms. Lakshmi Kumari and Ms.
Manjula Kumari. I asked the attendees to brief whatever they had learned in the first session,
by doing this, they showed more confidence in explaining the subject and were also able to
recall concepts. The second session and third session went on until 5:20 PM, covering topics
on solar panels, Cleo unit maintenance, switch on methods, ways of charging, AC and DC.
After covering each subject, we revisited the older concepts we had learned. I asked them to
make bullet points on their books and make drawings to remember things. They all seemed
to like the practical session which included roleplay and games. In the game, they played
roles as electricity, voltage, and resistance. I also passed on the Cleo units and gave them
scenarios and asked them if they would be able to charge the device or not. The group was
very eager to learn and there was a bit of competitiveness too. Although some were shy
initially, they all picked up later and even asked questions. Before giving them the post-
assessment test, I revisited all the concepts we had covered on the day. I gave them the test
and by 5:40 PM they were done with the test too. 5 of them have a score of above 7 out of
14.
I thanked them for attending the session and they have said they would educate others about
Renewable energy. They have also promised to make use of the installed facility. I left
Vaktapur after cleaning the place with the help of the youth. We left for Ranbhatiya to check
the status of the unit as there was supposed to be a launch and training event the following
day. The unit was charging at the time, but the cabinet for the Cleo unit had not been
installed. We left Vaktapur at around 6:35 PM, reached Dungarpur at around 8:20 PM and I
wrapped my day.

2020
On 18/2/2020, Starting the day at about 9:00 AM, I went to the office first and after taking
all the required items, we left for Ranbhatiya at around 10:30 AM. Ranbhatiya is about 65km
from Dungarpur and we reached there by 12:10 PM. We met the principal of the school,
teachers of the school and the little kids that were at the time at the Anganwadi. Before we
organized the training session, I made kids play games and got to know them better.
Mrs. Sangeetha and Mr. Janmejaya did the mobilization and by 12:30 PM there were about
35 people which included teachers, school kids, parents and the attendees of the training
session. The tape was cut by the principal and the little girl child of the Anganwadi.
Janmejaya introduced me to the crowd and I briefed everybody about the purpose of the
training and the purpose of installation of such a system. Carbon dioxide and its effects on
earth were understood well by the crowd. The fact that the little kids were able to pronounce
carbon dioxide right instilled more hope in me. These little toddlers are someday going to see
a world run by renewables only.
Most kids wanted to stay in the training session but unfortunately, they had to go back to
their respective classes. I started the actual session at 1:10 PM after everyone arrived. The
training consisted of 4 women including Mrs. Sangeetha, C&C. Mrs. Sangeetha has a BA
degree and is a mother of two and still is very eager to learn. The other women in the
session Ms. Bhavna, Ms. Munna, Ms. Priyanka are all pursuing their BA. The one lad in the
session was Mr. Kiran who is pursuing his 11th
Standard now.
They all had little understanding of electricity and everybody almost knew how dangerous
electricity can be. Before I gave them the pre-assessment test, I gave them a small session of
what electricity is and what things are made of. I did not want them to take the test with
absolutely no information. The participants did fairly well in the test, but nobody had a score
of more than 8 out of 12. Ms. Munna and Mr. Kiran had the highest score of 6 and 8 out of
12, respectively. With an understanding of what they are capable of, I decided to make this
training session a bit more extensive than the previous ones.
I covered topics starting from atoms, photoelectric effect, AC and DC, solar panels working,
materials used, inverters, Cleo unit. During the sessions, to make their understanding easier, I
used a very easy day to day activities to explain concepts. We also played games such as
what would you do in this scenario? The participants liked it and persisted that more
concepts are practically taught. I also handed the Cleo units to each one and asked them to
switch on and off the system, charge the system. Since there were only 5 participants, we had
Abundant time, and everybody got a chance to practically operate Cleo unit. The only thing I
could not do was to take them onto the roof to show them the solar panel. They wanted to see
it when I told them they operate the best at a certain tilt and angle.
Constant revision of the topics coupled with them explaining the topic enhanced their skill,
and, I believe, I was able to establish a strong foundation of electricity in them. I gave them
the Post-assessment around 5:10 PM, after the completion and multiple revision of all the
three sessions. Ms. Priyanka was not able to take the test, unfortunately. She was required by
her parents. Between 4 PM to 5 PM, we had a new participant Ms. Kailash who is an 8th std
student. I briefed her about all the topics discussed in the day while others took the test. She
is an extremely bright little girl and almost instantly grasped everything I had explained to
her.
3 of them have scored above 8 out of 14. Mrs. Sangeetha had most mistakes, but that could
be because she had to also attend her 2-month-old baby. Mrs. Sangeetha had made the best
attempt to be in the training session. After thanking them and further urging them to continue
their education and follow their dreams, we left Ranbhatiya. We reached Dungarpur at
around 7:20 PM and I ended my day.

On the 19/2/2020, we had left to Ambau from Dungarpur and reached there by 11:30 PM.
The installation was still pending at the time. By 12:45 PM, the installation was completed.
Mr. Yogesh, our installer was also present at the time and I had checked the tilt angle and the
direction one more time before the final masonry job was done to consolidate the
foundation.
Meantime, Mr. Janmejaya, Mr. Rajeev Damor, and Mr. Ramlal Damor had done the
mobilization work. The school children also had a lunch break. Mrs. Rekha had cleaned the
Anganwadi and had we had prepared the Anganwadi for the launch event and training
session. Unfortunately, since we had delayed the launch event by almost 3 hours due to
unforeseen delays that we had not expected, we had to just conduct the launch event. By,
1:45 PM, children, parents, and teachers had come to the Anganwadi. Whilst we waited, I
had conversation with the people gathered and spoke to them about Renewables in general.
By 2:00 PM, the principal of the school inaugurated the new Anganwadi, set up with our
Cleo units, solar panels, and computer system. Mr. Janmejaya did the introduction and I
addressed the gathering about the purpose of installation of the units, its benefits for youth
and how they could make the best utilization of the installed system. We finished the launch
event by 2:40 PM. I spoke to the teachers, children and the participants of the training
session and told them that the training session would happen on a different day and extended
my apologies to them.
After playing cricket with the kids for some time, we left Ambau at around 3:20 PM. We
reached Dungarpur at around 5:20 PM and I wrapped my day.

On 20/2/2020, Mr. Janmejaya was at my place at 7:00 AM exactly and after having a
conversation and having sent emails to Mr. Swayang, we headed to Block headquarters
Simalwada by a shared jeep. We took the auto to the jeep stand, and from there left to
Simalwada on a shared jeep and reached Simalwada by 9:10 AM.
We were instructed to find government officials for the launch event and to not carry out the
launch event at Mormoudi without the presence of government officials. With that in mind, I
and Mr. Janmejaya met Mr. Ramlal Karadi (BEO, Simalwada),83002085110 and he said he
would be willing to attend the launch event only after March. He told us that he would not be
able to attend the launch event in Mormoudi ton the day as he was already occupied on the
day. He has suggested we contact Mr. Gopal Khatara who is a committee member of the
Block headquarters too.
We left Simalwada on instructions received by Janmejaya from the MCS team. We reached
back to Dungarpur and went to the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan. Mr. Janmejaya had a
telephonic conversation with Mr. Pradeep Meena and he had told us that he could arrange for
the government officials' presence during the launch events for the dates 22nd, 23rd and
24/25th.

Programs scheduled on this day were postponed to a different day on account of Maha Shiva
Ratri.
22nd February
2020
On the 22/2/2020, starting my day at 8:00 AM, we left for Renta village by an auto-
rickshaw. The village is about 28km from Dungarpur and is situated at a greater elevation
than the rest of Dungarpur. The village is also comparatively bigger than the rest of the
villages in the surrounding area. The village has 400 houses. We reached Renta at around
9:30 AM.
Mr. Sohan Parki and Mr. Janmejaya were involved in mobilization and by 10:15 AM even
Mr. Ganpat, NYKS coordinator had also made it to Renta. The inauguration was attended by
School children, their parents, Sarpanch, Vice Sarpanch, ward panch, teachers and training
event participants. The inauguration consisted of about 35-40 individuals. The ribbon was
cut by a little girl along with Mr. Ganpat and Mr. Harish Koted, deputy Sarpanch. The
training space had been cleaned and we had installed the banner and also checked if the
computers and other systems were functional. I had shown little children how to paint on the
computer before the inauguration. Mr. Janmejaya introduced me to the crowd and briefed
them about Pragya. I addressed the crowd and detailed them about the purpose of our
project, how the installation would be of use to them, what benefits it would mean to youth.
The crowd responded very well in Renta and Mr. Ganpat also addressed the gathering. The
inauguration ceremony was concluded by 11:10 AM. We took a short break, thanked
everyone for giving their time to us. Refreshments were distributed and the PRI members
were very cooperative and assisted us throughout the program.
The training session started from 11:30 AM and it had 5 participants including C &C Mrs.
Geetha. All the participants were above 18 years and had some level of understanding of
Electricity. Before the pre-assessment, I had introduced them to atoms and some basics of
electricity to be able to take the test confidently.
Participants included:
1) Ms. Rekha Koted
2) Mr. Dhaneshwar Ahari
3) Mr. Rahul Koted
4) Mr. Arvind Koted
5) Mrs. Geetha Paragi
The participants did fairly well in the pre-assessment, with everyone scoring above 6 out of
12. I then started with the first session, covering topics on atoms, semiconductors,
photoelectric effect, AC, DC, renewable and non- renewables. We had a small tea break after
that, and we resumed with session 2 after the break.
In session 2, we discussed the materials used in solar panels, semiconductors, effects of
shading on the solar panel, the effects of dust on the efficiency of the solar panel. We also
revised session 1 and 2 before we took a break for lunch. We resumed with the last and final
session of the training program, covering capacity of solar panel, Cleo unit, charging the
Cleo, Do's and Don’ts, compatible devices, calculation of watts, calculation of current. I
gave them a practical lesson and handed the Cleo units to them to operate. I also made them
familiar with scenarios in which they had to decide whether to charge the device or not.
I also involved them in small skits where they played the role of electricity, voltage, and
resistance. Problems were also given to them to solve. And they also seem to like the
practical part much more than theory. Mr. Dhaneshwar was an ITI student, Mrs. Geetha has
done her BA, Ms. Rekha is pursuing her BA, the 2 other lads are in their 12th standard. After
revising again, I handed them the post-assessment questionnaires.
Everyone has a score of more than 8 out of 14, Dhaneshwar has only 2 errors scoring 12.
Mrs. Rekha, Mr. Arvind, and Mr. Rahul have a score of 8, 10 and 8 respectively. I discussed
the answers to the questions again for both post-assessment and pre-assessment and left the
place at around 4:25 PM and went back to Dungarpur by bus. We reached Dungarpur at 6
PM and I concluded my day.

2020
On 23/3/2020, having started my day at 8:00 AM, I along with Mr. Janmejaya and Ms.
Meena Damor, block coordinator, NYKS, left to Simalwada first on a shared Taxi. From
there, we took a shared auto for Mormoudi. We had to walk 3 km further from the highway
and be finally at around 10:20 AM. Mormoudi is about 64Km from Dungarpur. The school
is almost 28 years old. The C and C at Mormoudi had already done the mobilization and the
children were patiently waiting for us at the Anganwadi at Mormoudi. Mr. Janmejaya further
gathered more people for the launch event. By 10:50 AM almost close to 40 people had
gathered. It included teachers, little kids, the participants of the training program and parents.
The ribbon was cut by Ms. Meena Damor, in the presence of the principal of the school, Mr.
Gopal and along with the little kid of Mormoudi. Mr. Janmejaya introduced me to the people
and I briefed them about the purpose of installation and its benefits and how they could make
use of it. I also briefed them about the importance of renewable energy and how education
could change the life of a girl. They took it very well, gave in their inputs and also
appreciated us for our work. I introduced Ms. Meena to the crowd and she also spoke about
the importance of education for the girl child. She urged everyone to use the installed system
and make the best use of it. We ended the launch event with the vote of thanks and took a
break. Refreshments were arranged as well.
After s short break, we proceeded with the training event. To my surprise, everyone from the
launch event had sat down for the training too. I was very overwhelmed and told them the
training would be for at least 4 hours and there would be tests too. They said they wanted to
attend the training and would be willing to take the tests too. In the end, after Mr. Janmejaya
telling them that they would be briefed about today's learning by the participants of the
training event, some children left for the day. In the end, we were left with 11 participants,
all youths, whose eyes shined, and were very eager to learn. I persisted that it is fair for
anybody interested to attend the training.
We started the training session at 11:10 AM. Before I gave them the pre-test, I introduced
them to some concepts of electricity. They were very sharp, and in fact, this group was
perhaps the brightest I had come across so far. Even the principal sat with us during the
training event. The participants of the training event included:
1) Ms. Sangeetha Damor
2) Ms. Jyotsna Kumari
3) Mr. Naresh Kumar Damor
4) Mr. Heera Lal Damor
5) Mr. Jitendra Damor
6) Mr. Sanjay Kumar Damor
7) Ms. Soomi Damor
8) Ms. Daksha Kumari Damor
9) Mr. Pradip Kumar Damor
10) Mr. Gayatri Damor
11) Mr. Gopal Krishna Karayi
The best pre-test score was 9 out of 12 and everybody has scored above 5 in their pre-test.
The group was very lively and almost instantly picked up each topic that was discussed.
Everyone in the group had basic education until the 12th. A few of them are Pursuing their
BA too. Most of them, without me telling, had started to note down the right answers on their
books as I discussed the answers. This gave me a lot of confidence to teach them in-depth
about some of the topics which I had only skimmed in the previous training sessions.
I started the first session at around 11: 50AM, covering concepts on atoms, the periodic
table, compounds, semiconductors, AC and DC. They received the teaching very well noting
down everything. This group was is an example of how 1 or 2 right people can change the
mindset of the entire group. The group was also very competitive and gave answers to every
question. Every answer they gave was right, almost every time. We took a short tea break
after session 1 and had a conversation about the culture, traditions of Rajasthan.
In session 2, I covered renewable energy systems and discussed the history of electricity and
how it was made the first time. I also showed them pictures of the earliest batteries. I covered
topics such as materials of the solar cell, components of solar energy systems, conversion of
DC to AC, types of batteries, shading and its effects. I gave them as many simple examples
as I could to help them absorb the most. I insisted they make pictorial representation and
make flowcharts to remember things better. We took a lunch break after session 2 and even
during the lunch break, they discussed wind turbines, business, economics, politics, and even
mythology.
The final session resumed by 2:30 PM covering the most important topics of the day on
operating Cleo units, it's maintenance, Dos and Don'ts, compatibility of the system, voltage,
current, resistance and power calculations. I extensively carried out practical sessions on how
to handle the system with scenarios in which they had to do the calculation to check whether
or not the device is compatible with the installed Cleo unit. I gave them only voltage and
current and asked them if they are connectable with the devices and yes, I received the right
answers most of the time. I revised what we had learned in the day with them giving a
summary of the topic.
I carried another round of revision before I gave them the post-assessment. Everyone in the
group has a score of above 8 out of 14 with Ms. Sangeetha scoring 13 out of 14. I discussed
what wrong they had done in the tests and how they can carry on and teach others what they
had learned during the day. I thanked them for giving their time for us and for staying
throughout the training session. They thanked us too for our effort and have told me that they
would make the best use of the installed system. They have asked me to come back again
sometime to see their improvement. The principal also told me that he would take my
suggestion of teaching chess at his school. We said goodbye to each other and ended the
training session at 5:10 PM
To me, it was a very special day and it made me very content and instilled in me a sense of
success. We took a shared jeep back to Dungarpur from Mormoudi and reached around 7:20
PM.

2020
On the 24th, starting my day at 8:00 AM, I left for Asiyabao with Mr. Janmejaya on a shared
taxi to Bicchiwara and then took an auto-rickshaw to Lehena and finally walked to the
panchayat office at Asiyabao. The place is about 43 km from Dungarpur. We reached the
place at around 10:15 AM
The Panchayat office is situated in the elevated area and is a hub for all the farmers'
grievances about land, property, farming and other things. The place has only one floor and
the CLEO unit is installed in the big hall of the panchayat office. Our ASC storage rack is in
the other room. The hall is quite big and can contain more than 100 people.
When we reached there, there were few People and panchayat officers. I checked if the
device is charging and the direction of the solar panel and they all seem fine. Mr. Janmejaya
was involved in mobilization meanwhile, and it took him some time to organize people for
the launch event. Finally, we had about 30-35 people in the inauguration event, most people
were residents of the same village, and there were also participants in the test event. There
were not many children in the launch event but consisted mostly of people in the age
between 20-70.
The launch event started at 11:10 AM and the inauguration of the event was done by Mr.
Bhagwati Prasad, ward panch, Asiyabao Panchayat, Mr. Dhanpal Bharanda, block-level
coordinator NYKS, and Mr. Devilal Koted, Panchayat revenue officer. Janmejaya introduced
me to the people gathered and I briefed about the purpose of installation and the importance
of green energy. I also showed them the working of Cleo unit and urged them to take the
benefit of it. I asked them to communicate the same to the youth in their village and make
them aware of the installed system so they could make use of it too. We ended the
inauguration by about 11:50 AM with a vote of thanks and then took a short refreshments
break.
We started with the training session from 12:10 PM after the break. The training session had
6 members initially. 4 women and 2 men. Participants included:
1) Ms. Nirmal Kumari Karadi
2) Mr. Jaswanth Kumar Kheda
3) Mr. Prakash
4) Mrs. Hansa Bhagora
5) Ms. Anita Karadi
6) Mrs. Jyothi
Before the pre-assessment, I gave them insight about electricity, I had asked them if they
knew about electricity and unfortunately, nobody knew anything about it. After explaining
them a few concepts, they had gained some confidence and agreed to take the test.
The average score of the pre-test is 5 with everyone scoring less than 6 out of 12. With that
in mind, I thought it would be wise to teach them basics only and not in-depth as their
understanding of electricity was not as much compared to other villages. I discussed the right
answers for the questions and asked them to make a note of it on the scribbling pads
provided to them.
I started the session 1 discussing atoms, current, voltage, and power. I did not discuss the
concepts of AC and DC in depth but only told them that the installed device has the facility
to provide both means of electricity. I conducted as many small skits/roleplays to make them
remember things. I gave them names such as electrons, protons, neutrons, and sunlight to
make them understand what is happening inside the panel when sunlight falls. I also covered
topics on pollution due to the production of electricity by other means. I had also asked them
to identify objects that conduct or electricity that are inside the room. This way I believed
they understood the topics better. We took a lunch break after session 1
Session 2 started at 2:10 PM and included topics on the solar panel, components of the solar
energy system, types of energy devices. I did not go into the working of the solar cell and its
structure. After a short tea break, I resumed with session 3 covering Cleo unit capacity,
compatible devices, dos and don'ts giving them a wide variety of examples and scenarios.
I revised multiple times too and I had understood they were in a hurry too and few
participants were going in and out too. Therefore, after the final revision and them explaining
what they had understood, I gave them the post-assessment to take.
Nobody has a score above 0 and the average score is 7 out of 14. I urged them to kindly
incorporate whatever they had learned and asked them to educate others in their village about
the system too. I also thought a few things on excel and PowerPoint just to show them how
useful computer education could be. I left Asiyabao at around 4:10 PM, walked back to
Lesana and took a taxi back to Dungarpur and ended my day.

25th February
2020
On the 25th of February 2020, starting my day at about 8:30 AM, I and Mr. Janmejaya went
to the old bus stand to catch the direct bus to Peet. But unfortunately, since there was no bus
at the time, we had to take the shared Jeep to Simalwada first and then take an auto to Peet.
Mr. Ramesh, AA, received us from the highway and accompanied us to Ambau. Ambau is at
least 3km from the highway and there is no public transport until there. We had reached
Ambau at around 10:50 AM.
On the 19th Feb 2020, we had done the launch event at Ambau and had rescheduled the
training session for 25th Feb 2020. The training session included the people I had met in the
inauguration event. Training participants Ms. Rekha, Mr. Ashok, Mr. Anil, and Mr.
Govardhan Lal were waiting at the time we reached. We had to wait for about half an hour
for Ms. Varsha and Ms. Tina to come to the training event. I finally started with the training
at around 11:50 AM.
I knew the participants were sharp, as I had previously conversed with them and they had
expressed a lot of interest to learn. The group was very excited for the day and they had also
asked me to teach them computer basics as we waited for the other two to arrive. I had
explained to them the functioning and uses of excel, word, and PowerPoint. I straight away
gave them the pre-assessment test after explaining the basic concepts of electricity.
The average pre-test score is above 6 for 12. I knew the group could absorb a lot and that it
was an opportunity for me to try to involve them in complex problem solving too. I started
the session 1 after discussing the right answers.
The participants in the training session were:
1) Ms. Rekha Kumari Damor
2) Ms. Tina Kumari Damor
3) Ms. Varsha Kumari Damor
4) Mr. Anil Kumar Damor
5) Mr. Ashok Damor
6) Mr. Govardhan Lal
Rekha is pursuing her BA, Tina and Varsha are both in their 12th
standard. Ashok and Anil
are also doing planning to do BA. Govardhan Lal is a farmer and is interested in
incorporating solar to his farm.
Session 1 covered topics on Atom, electrons, semiconductors, AC and DC. I also gave them
problems on solving simple circuits and with one go they were able to solve for resistance,
power. We took a tea break at 1:20 PM. The session was very lively and there was healthy
banter too. Session 2 resumed after the break and it covered topics on components of the
solar energy system, solar cell structure, functioning of lights, dual nature of light,
photoelectric effect, carbon dioxide effects on earth, renewable energy and its uses. This
session was lengthy and extensive and went on until 3:00 PM, I asked them if they wanted to
take a lunch break, but they insisted that I complete all the things I had intended to cover
before we took a lunch break. I also gave them points for each right answer, so they
participate and are interactive during the training session.
The final session started at 3:30 PM and went on until 4:40 PM, it was a complete practical
session where scenarios of when to plug a device, when to charge, went to press the buttons
of the system and, what to do to have a healthy efficiency. These concepts were learned by
employing small scenario games and activities on how to maintain the unit. I gave them the
post-assessment test after several rounds of revision and one to one discussion.
Two participants Rekha and Anil have a score above 11. Other participants have a score
above 7. The average score is 9 out of 14. With Ambau, I had completed the training event at
all the 7 ASCs. We have put in our best efforts and worked hard as a team. It would not have
been easy or possible for me to conduct the training session without the effort of many
people who were involved in mobilization and preparation.
I was supposed to proceed to Salumber the following day for the facilitation of the launch
event and training session of 7 ALH’s at Salumber. I had spoken to Mr. Bhupendra Singh
and it was decided to have our first event at Morilla.

2020
Starting my day at 7:30 AM, I had checked out of Hotel RamNiwas and took an auto to the
bus station. I boarded onto the bus leaving for Salumber and the bus left Dungarpur at 8:30
AM and reached Salumber via Aspur. The bus had also stopped in Aspur for some time and
it was 11:10 PM by the time I reached Salumber. I checked into Hotel Sagar guest house and
freshened up and was to leave for Morilla.
Mr. Bhupendra Singh had gone forward with the launch event at Morilla and had finished it
by 12:20 PM. Since it was late already, it was decided to carry out the training event for
Malpur and Morilla together, the following day.
27th February
2020
I started my day at 8:30 AM and accompanied by Mr. Bhupendra Singh, reached Malpur at
9:30 AM. We opened the doors for the Krishi Kendra which is our newly assigned ALH in
Malpur. This place is right opposite to the Anganwadi and the school. A lot of children had
gathered for the day. The place is around 10km from Salumber and there is no public
transport until Malpur.
Bhupendra took some time to mobilize and by then people of the village had cleaned the
place for us to start the Inauguration and training event. Children had gathered to have a look
at the newly installed system. They were from the school opposite the ALH. The children
were very bright and saw computers with awe. We had played cartoons on the computer for
them to watch. Soon parents of the children and SHG's had gathered. There were around 50
people in total.
We started the launch event at 11:30 AM. Mr. Sunil, Principal of higher secondary school
Malpur and Sarpanch of Malpur Mr. Narender Pal Singh inaugurated the event. Mr.
Bhupendra spoke to the people about the purpose of the day and the importance of
renewables. He then introduced me to them. I addressed to them the benefits of having the
system and how children were intrigued by it and how fast they had learned to use the
computers. I asked Mr. Sunil to address the people too. He stressed on what I had said. He
asked people to make use of it and continue their education and not to drop out. Mr.
Narendra Pal also addressed the gathering and told how education is a must and that he has
been stressing the same to his grandchildren.
I started with the training session by 12:15 PM and I asked them if they would be able to
devote their time. They said yes and I gave them the pre-assessment test after explaining a
few basics of electricity. After discussing the answers quickly, I told them I would be
teaching them about electricity, how to use the installed system and how to maintain it. Most
of them have a score of less than 4 out of 12 in the pre-test.
I had to end the training event after session 1 as many had to attend the marriage ceremony
in their village, and many of them did not seem to have any interest too. They wanted to
learn how to use WhatsApp, Facebook, and Tiktok. I told them I am sorry and that I would
not be able to teach them all that. I asked them to kindly continue their education and not
drop out. I urged the women present to continue their education and make use of the installed
systems.
As told by Ms. Rupi Meena, C&C, some of the participants in the training event were not the
same as the one in the list she had sent. Many of them on the list had exams it seems. Also, I
could not force the youth to sit for long hours. They wouldn’t be able to absorb anything
without interest; therefore, I wished them luck and wrapped the training session. We left
Malpur at 3:30 PM and returned to Salumber at around 5:00 PM.

28th February
2020
On 28/2/2020, Starting the day at 8:30 AM, I and Mr. Bhupendra left for Village Anjani and
first went to Karawali and then had to walk for 3 km. We finally got a shared jeep until
Anjani and we reached there by 11:10 AM. Anjani is on the way to Lasadiya and it is about
28km from Salumber. By then Ms. Durga, C&C of Anjani had already mobilized some
people and little children of Anganwadi and SHG groups and parents of the children and
local youth had gathered. Mr. Bhupendra further mobilized and there were around 35-40
people during the inauguration.
The inauguration was done by Mr. Lal Singh, CDPO, ISDC, Lasadiya and Gram Pradhan of
Anjani Mr. Ramesh Meena. The ribbon-cutting was done by the little girl child of Anjani
Anganwadi. Bhupendra briefed about the purpose of installation and the importance of
renewables. He introduced me to the gathering and I addressed them about the same and how
the installed system could be made the most benefit of, before the chief guest had arrived, I
had introduced them to the operations of the Cleo units, it's capacity and how to maintain.
This was well received by the SHG community headed by Mrs. Lakshmi Meena. The people
here also answered and responded to the questions put forth by us. Mr. Lal Singh also
addressed the gathering and stressed on the importance of education for girls and urged them
to study well.
The Inauguration was concluded by noon and we took a break. By 12:10 PM we started the
training session. I had also interacted with the participants before and I had shown them
excel and some basic operations on the computer. Some of the people also wanted to remain
for the training event, but when I told them there would be tests, they chose to listen from
outside.
The participants of the training were:
1) Mr. Valaram Meena
2) Mr. Chetan Kumar Meena
3) Ms. Durga Kumari Meena
4) Ms. Kali Kumari Meena
5) Ms. Kamala Kumari Meena
6) Mr. Shankar Lal Meena
Before I started the session 1, I gave them an insight into electricity, renewables and
electricity production. I saw their potential and decided to teach even the tougher electricity
concepts of AC and DC. After discussing the answers for pre-test, I began the session 1
covering topics of atoms, Renewables, materials used in solar cells. Session 1 was received
well and even Mr. Bhupendra had made efforts to teach them what he had listened to. After a
short break, I started with session 2 covering the effects of excessive load on the system,
shading effects, calculation of power. We took a lunch break after session 2 and resumed
session 3 covering dos and don'ts, capacity, compatible devices, charging methods. I finally
ended the training session with lots of revision and a practical session where we had scenario
games too.
The post-assessment indicates that they have understood if not all but most concepts very
well. They understood the system very well but were unable to grasp a few tougher concepts.
I discussed the answers quickly as the woman had to attend their families. Mr. Shankar has a
score of 10 out 14, although he has only education until 5, he had a great interest and he told
us that he would educate as many people as he could. The average score is 7 out of 14.
We left Anjani at around 3:45 PM and Mr. Shankar dropped us until Karawali. I checked the
systems installed at Karawali and the installed Cleo unit was charging. At around 4:10 PM
there was still bright sun and the input was still around 99 watts. From there, we were able to
catch the bus going to Aspur and we got down near our office at around 4:50 PM.
The system installed at our office in Salumber, KD plaza was also functioning well. At 5:00
PM, the input was around 47watts and by 5:30 it was 20 watts. Our HP Printer is not
functional with the CLEO unit. We plugged CPU and the monitor and they both were
compatible with the Unit consuming 90watt power per hour. A fully charged Cleo unit can
run the system for about 4 hours before it shuts down automatically when it drops down to a
15% charge. DC USB cables for charging that work by pressing the DC button consume 5
watts and can be plugged in for 70-75 hours.

Starting the day at 9:30 AM, I and Mr. Nirbhay left for Aggad and reached Aggad at around
10:50 PM via Karawali. Agar is about 28km from Salumber and is situated at a very remote
location. The importance of education is still less understood by the people even today.
People had already gathered for the inauguration and further mobilization was done by Ms.
Ganga. I, Mr. Nirbhay and Mrs.Bhabri, Anganwadi in charge prepared the Anganwadi for
the launching event. Around 40-45 people had gathered that included Anganwadi kids, SHG
groups, parents of kids, training participants. The inauguration was concluded by around
11:40 AM. Nirbhay briefed the people about the purpose of the installation of the device and
handed the stage to me. I briefed the gathering about the installed system, interacted with the
audience and understood them better. I urged everyone to make the best use of the system
and to kindly continue with education. Parents have promised to send their children to school
regularly.
The training session started at around noon after the arrival of 3 new participants. Ms. Ganga
believed that they were the right candidates for the training. After explaining the participants
about a few concepts on electricity, I gave them the pre-assessment test.
The Participants of the training event included:
1) Ms. Laali
2) Ms. Pinka
3) Ms. Ganga Kumari
4) Mr. Navaj Ram
5) Mr. Padam Lal
6) Mrs. BabriBai
At first, they did not know how to fill the pre-assessment test. After I and Ms. Ganga
explaining to them, groups were made, and the answers were discussed. There are very few
educated people in Aggad and even today, girls are married very early in their lives and
education is still not seen as something that would change their lives.
I decided to keep the training session short and to cover only the main concepts. There were
3 male participants and 3 female participants all over 18 years. Ms. Ganga, our C&C was
one of the participants. She is in her final BA and was the highest scorer of the pre-
assessment test. Although Some of the male participants had little education, they were able
to understand concepts such as battery when I told them that such a system is used even in
their bikes. I asked them to communicate what they had understood to the rest of the Class.
Session 1 covered topics like atoms, AC and DC, Renewable and non-renewable energy.
After a short break, we resumed with session 2 covering topics on the efficiency of solar
systems, components, effects of shading and dust on panels. I repeated this session several
times and made them understand the difference between battery and inverter. Ms. Ganga and
Mr. Nirbhay also joined the groups and helped them understand better.
Having done the practical and the final session, I gave them the post-assessment test. I
included the scenario type of seeking a solution to a problem. I also conducted the last round
discussion with Ms. Ganga leading one session, and, me leading the other. That way, the
group finally did find the concepts interesting and were able to operate the device. They
could not understand electricity concepts, however. With that, we urged again to use the
systems installed at the ALC. I also stressed how near to their houses these units have been
installed. I think they understand the importance of our effort. Ms. Ganga has said she will
instill more awareness and see to that the supplementary classes held at ALH are attended by
as many girls as possible.
During the training event, we had a little kid by the name Ms. Narayani, who is physically
challenged. When I had seen her earlier in the morning, she had guided the other children to
the Anganwadi. This kid is just 11 and sat with us nodding her head. The was something
amazing. I left Aggad at around 3:40 PM and reached Salumber by 5:00 PM.

Starting my day at 9:00 AM, I first went to Karawali by bus and reached the village Deoliya
which is a little further than Aggad. The place is about 35 km Salumber and there were
hardly any buses on the day, and we had a walk for the most bit until Deoliya. We reached
Deoliya at around 11:10 AM. The C&C at Deoliya Ms. Girija Kumari Meena had mobilized
a small group of children and they watched educational rhymes until the rest of the crowd
had arrived. SHG groups, parents and training participants arrived by 11:30 AM.
The inauguration was done by Mr. Puri Lal Meena, ward panch of Deoliya. A total of 60
participants were part of the launch event. After Mr. Bhupendra briefed them about the
event, I and Mr. Puri Lal Meena, the head of the village addressed the gathering on the
importance of education and the way forward for them. The place has many dropouts and
Deoliya also has low women literacy due to dropouts. The number of people pursuing
graduation is low. There was only one woman in the training session who is pursuing her
graduation. Ending the launch event at around 12:10 PM, we took a short refreshment break.
I had asked the gathering to be serious about education and that, mobile phones and laptops
are not just meant for entertainment purposes as they think to be, and, there is so much to
learn and be productive.
We started with the training session from 12:20 AM with participants:
1) Mrs. Roopa Devi
2) Ms. Monika Vairagi
3) Ms. Lali Meena
4) Mr. Harshith Vairagi
5) Mr. Lokesh Kumar Meena
6) Ms. Seetha Meena.
7) Ms. Girija Meena
We had few school children and elderly sit in the training session too. They sat there out of
their interest. In the pre-assessment, only Ms. Girija and Ms. Monika had performed well,
and the rest had a score between 3-5 out of 12. Session 1 was held after discussing the
answers to pre-assessment. Most of them were able to learn something after group
discussions. I stressed the implications of producing electricity from non-renewable. They
now know that pollution levels are higher due to the production of electricity from coal, and
other conventional means of energy resources. Global warming and its effects and how
different countries are combatting the same issue were likely understood by them.
After the lunch break, we resumed session 2 and session 3 with an extensive practical
session. I handed the system to them so they can operate it themself and understand how
easy it is. I also conducted scenario games like before. I revised many times before I gave
them the post-assessment test and they have performed fairly well in the post-assessment
test. The post-assessment test was also discussion type and the answers were discussed. It
was an open book test too and I asked them to answer whatever they had understood.
By 4:10 PM they handed the post-assessment formats and I discussed the answers to the
post-assessment. We left for Salumber back from Deoliya and reached around 6:10 PM and
I ended my day.
The system installed at Deoliya is also functioning and is charging with no problems and the
solar charging input is a 130-watt peak at noon.

2020
On the 2/3/2020, starting at 9:30 AM from Salumber, we left for Dholiya which is 45Km
from Salumber. We reached there by 10:45 AM. Dholiya is the final village in the Lasadiya
block. This village has about 50 houses and about 250-300 people are residing in this small
village. The condition of this part of the world is still very different. There are still many
girls here, that are married early in their lives and study until the 8th
standard. The dropout
rates are high among both boys and girls. This place predominantly relies on agriculture and
the people are not aware of the current affairs of the world. It is as though they have shut
their windows to the outside world.
When we reached there, Mrs. Lakshmi, our C&C had mobilized around 20-25 children and
women, they had gathered at the Anganwadi. The Anganwadi has 2 rooms and the system is
installed in the smaller room where our storage rack is also kept. The bigger room is where
children have their classes usually. The installed system was working fine and is charging
with an input of about 130watt at 11:00 PM. We had cleaned the Anganwadi and made it
ready for the Launch event.
By 11:10 AM, there were about 50 people including SHGs, parents of children and the
people of the village. The ribbon-cutting was done by Vice Sarpanch Mrs.Homli Bai in the
presence of Mrs. Santoshi Meena, Block coordinator of Mabadi Kendra.
Another organization was also present at the time and their motive was to promote
cleanliness. They were there only for about 20minutes. The organization distributed the
chocolates and all the wrappers were casually throw by the crowd. It was only a few children
in the crowd that picked the wrappers and put in their pockets. The children I met there had
high aspirations and one girl said she wants to be police someday and the other kid Rinku
said he wants to be a Doctor and the other said he wants to be an actor.
Although children constituted most of the crowd, their words received less attention and
even their families made fun of their aspirations. Mrs. Homli Bai, I and Bhupendra made the
best efforts to make them realize where they were going wrong. We told them how education
coupled with agriculture could lead to lots of innovation and that innovation has taken
civilization forward. We urged the people gathered to make the best use of the installed
system and learn as much as they could. I gave them the example of how it takes 6-7 months
of hard work to harvest wheat and it would be necessary for them to devote certain time in
education to see how powerful knowledge can be. Parents have agreed to send their
daughters and sons to schools.
We wrapped the inauguration event at around 12:10 PM and took a break. I started the
training session 1 from 12:30 PM. Some changes were made in the participants. We had 8
people sitting in the beginning. Mrs. Lakshmi, C&C was also among the participants, 1
woman and 1 man left after session 1. We had Mr. Homaram Meena replace the man. Mr.
Homaram Meena also has done his BA and desires to work for the government. The
participants included:
1) Ms. Ramola Kumari
2) Ms. Uddi Kumari
3) Mr. Narayan Lal Meena
4) Mr. Homaram Meena
5) Mrs. Lakshmi Kumari Meena
The village has few youths who have studied and a few of them have moved to neighboring
cities for work. Girls are married earlier, and they remain in their village knowing little about
the outside world. Some are not even aware that the earth is moving around the sun and not
the other way. They all drop out by 8th standard and look after animals taking them far
distances for food and fodder. They do this every day under the sharp sun of Rajasthan. For
most daughters of the village, there is nothing beyond the mountains. Our C&C, Mrs.
Lakshmi is the few among the literates that are pursuing their BA too.
Ms. Uddi Kumari did not understand how to take the pre-assessment but the rest showed
some understanding of the concepts of electricity after I told them. The pre-assessment was
discussion type as the participants found it difficult to understand the questions. I made had
made groups of 2 and I and Mrs. Lakshmi helped the 2 groups understand the questions and
find the answers for it. I covered the session 1 and 2 before we took a break at 2:30 PM. I
covered all the topics, and some responded well, even to tougher concepts.
The session 3 was completely practical and I gave them the Cleo unit to operate, look for
input changes and output changes when connected to the device. Some learned how long the
device could be connected and how to find out what device can be plugged by looking at the
technical specifications given behind every device. I gave them the post-assessment after
revising many times. Expect Ms. Uddi Kumari and Ms. Ramola Kumari everyone took the
test and have achieved fairly well. I asked the 2 women, who have only studied until 8th
standard and are already married, to attend the supplementary classes conducted in
Anganwadi and to be aware of current news and to pick on reading and to be confident. They
have said yes, and they also said their families would help them study.
I left Deoliya at around 4:00 PM and reached Salumber at around 5:10 PM and concluded

3rd March
2020
I started my day at 9:00 AM and together with Mr. Nirbhay left for Baran. The road to Baran
is just splendid and the place is surrounded by mountains from all sides. Baran is 22Km from
Salumber and the primary government school is located at a beautiful location. When we
reached around 10:30 AM, the school had already commenced, and the students were in their
classes. The installed room was already cleaned and only 4 students were seated in the class
writing multiplication table on their own. The school also has rhymes, quotes, poster stories
stuck on the walls.
The school also has a projector and the children were learning from computers on their own.
I saw class 3 children reciting numbers after the computer. The school is for students until
the 5th
standard. The students are very bright and are introduced to English grammar from
class 2. I interacted with the school children while MS. Shanti Meena and Mr. Nirbhay were
involved in Mobilization. By 11:10 AM, there were around 35-40 people and it included
parents of teachers, teachers, little kids, and the participants of the training event.
The ribbon-cutting was done by Mr. Kaluji Meena, Wardpanch in the presence of Ms. Kavita
Chaubisa, Block coordinator of SSA (Sarva Sikshan Abhiyan)
Nirbhay introduced the objectives of the day and the mission of RE: Pragati. I further told
them about us and urged parents to kindly send their children to school. Mrs. Kavitha also
has a great passion for teaching and addressed the same issues and asked the gathering to
make the best use of the installed system. We wrapped the launch event by around 11:50 AM
and took a break.
The children in the school had high energy and great interest to learn. Some of the 2nd
standard students knew 15 multiplication tables. The school has offered them a place to
study even in the night. Anybody interested can stay and make use of the apparatus at school
even after school hours. They have a wide variety of storybooks, puzzles, games, Audio, and
video learning material. This school would look like a private school for someone visiting
the first time. It gave me memories of my school days.
The training session started at around 12:10 PM and the participants of the training program
included:
1) Ms. Shanti Meena
2) Ms. Kesar Kumari
3) Mr. Damodar Meena
4) Mr. Mukesh Kumar Meena
5) Mr. Prakash Meena
6) Mr. Bheru Lal Meena
7) Mr. Bansi Lal Meena
8) Mr. Jagadish Kumar
9) Mr. Maneesh Kumar Meena
10) Mr. Rahul Meena
Most candidates abovementioned, are school children aged between 1 3to 15yrs. Many
others attended the training, but only the above mentioned took both the pre and post-
assessments. I had given them the pre-assessment test after explaining some basics and
almost all of them had a score above 50%. Session 1 had about 25 people including youth
above 18 and school children. After session 1, at 1:20 PM the school took a lunch break.
Session 1 included the basics of electricity. I believed teaching fundamentals first before
showing them the Cleo unit was necessary. These were small children and they grasped
things easily and the healthy competitiveness between them was enough to put a lot of things
into them in a short span. I repeated the concepts many times, made them explain it, so they
remember and can communicate the same to others. This included topics such as atoms,
cells, renewable energy, non-renewable energy, pollution, global warming, etc.
Session 2 began after the lunch break. The youths above 18 and I had discussed session 1
again during the school lunch hour. In session 2, 2nd and third standard kids were excluded.
Session 2 had all concepts on calculating power, AC and DC, shading of the solar panel.
Even this session to my surprise was very well taken by the children. They gave answers to
even the toughest questions. Their fundamentals of mathematics were very strong. After
another short break, we resumed session 3 with many activities and games. They operated
the Cleo units and understood when to press DC and AC and how to see the input changes
and output changes. The kids were making notes on their own too. I had also made use of the
laptop as well as the whiteboard in the classroom. This was the first time in all the training
sessions that participants had made notes of without me telling them.
After a lot of practice and revision, I handed the post-assessment test at around 4:10 PM.
most have a score of above 60%, with school children performing better. I urged everyone to
come to school, bring their sisters to school as well. They have said yes, and they also love to
come to school as well. For them the school is everything and it's a place where they spend
most of their hours in a day. I have told them to chase their dreams and to practice every day.
I also had the opportunity to eat the school made food and it was tasted delicious.
We thanked everyone for their efforts to attend the class, for letting us have the launch event
and the training event. We left Baran with a lot of hope. We reached Salumber at around
5:20 PM and I wrapped my day.

4th March
2020
Starting the day at 9:00 AM on 4th March 2020, having to cover two places, we left for
Malpur first. We reached Malpur at around 10:40 AM. We had earlier had the launch event
and training here too on the 27th Feb 2020. We had to redo both the events.
The place is around 10Km from Salumber and the unit is installed at the Panchayat office
right opposite the school at Malpur. The school has students from class 1 to class 5. At the
time we had reached, Ms. Rupi, C&C was the only person at the Panchayat office. The locks
of the Panchayat office had to be opened every time for someone to access the installed
system.
Mr. Bhupendra and Ms. Rupi did the mobilization. It was also very difficult for them to
mobilize as most People were involved in other activities. We had also prepared the
Panchayat office for the launch and training event and by 10:50 PM, there were around 40
people and included parents of children, children, women of the Malpur and some men from
the village who had heard about the event from us. Teachers from the opposite school had
also come to the launch event.
The ribbon-cutting was done by Mr. Narendra pal Meena, Sarpanch of Malpur and Mr.
Gopal Meena, Block coordinator, Mabadi Kendra, Salumber. We addressed the gathering,
speaking to them about the importance of Renewables, our initiative and mission. The launch
event was concluded with a vote of thanks after the addressing by both the ward panch and
Mr. Gopal Meena.
We started the training event after the launch event by 12:10 PM, I did not discuss the
session 1 and 2 as the participants had little understanding of concepts about electricity. I
only explained to them about Renewables and the operation of the Cleo units. It was
completely a practical session on how to operate, maintain and troubleshoot the device. I also
explained some computer fundamentals as they wanted to learn how to operate the system
too.
There were 6 participants in total, 2 women and 4 men, all above the age of 18 years. 2 men
had only education until the 8th
standard. The rest have an education until the 12th standard.
Among the participants was also Ms. Rupi, C&C. They were confident to take the post-
assessment test after the revision of the concepts. The participants have done fairly well in
the test with an average score of 9.6 out of 14. The participants included:
1) Ms. Mamatha Kumari Damor
2) Mr. Shankar Lal
3) Ms. Roopi
4) Mr. PrahaldSinha Meena
5) Mr. Kevaram Meena
6) Mr. Kaniyya Lal Meena
From there we left by 2:10 PM to Morilla which is only 2 km from Malpur. C&C Mrs.
Lakshmi had assembled the participants at the Anganwadi at Morilla.
We had 9 participants in the training event. Most participants were of the age 14-16 pursuing
their 8th standard and 3 of the participants had even participated in the training event
conducted on 27th February at Malpur.
The older participants were able to effectively communicate what they had learned to the
newer and much younger participants. I made groups of 3, containing 1 older participant in
each. This way, the younger participants also absorbed the topics very well. I also revised the
same topics again before I introduced them to the device. The children were very sharp and
had great interest to learn. They were not familiar with mobile phones too and this was an
advantage as they showed interest in the basics.
Participants included:
1) Mrs. Lakshmi
2) Mr. Narayan Lal
3) Mr. Ramesh Lal
4) Mr. Kechu Lal
5) Mr. Narendra
6) Ms. Ganga
7) Ms. Basanti
8) Mr. Parkash
9) Ms. Krishna
I conducted the final session and concluded it by 4:45 PM. Two older participants had
exams too, so I wrapped the session early. The final session was the longest with extensively
practical with scenario method of learning concepts. The children were very confident in
handling the device and also gave the right answer all the time. They also took post-
assessment with much confidence. Although they have answered a few things wrong, the
key concepts I believe have been strongly received by them. The little girl MS. Krishna who
watched and was with us during the event also took the post-assessment test.
The participants also stayed for a tiny computer session, I briefed them a bit about operating,
switching on and off the device, cursor movements, and keyboard functions. All through the
event, they had asked me to teach how to operate the computer.
I left them wishing luck. They all have their dreams for the future, and I am very certain they
will accomplish it. I return to Salumber by 5:20 PM. With this, I had completed all the
training events at Salumber: Baran, Morilla, Anjani, Aggad, Devaliya, Deoliya, and Malpur.
Baran was the most interesting of all. It showed me how strong basic education could
influence one's interest in learning. The school would also use the computers installed for
learning with immediate use. The computer has certain installation issues and did not restart.
We could not contact Mr. Satish regarding this as there was no network on the day too.
Overall, Salumber has surely developed a great inclination towards learning. Villages like
Anjani close to Karawali and Morilla, close to Salumber are some examples. Other villages
will also eventually pick up. Our efforts here will truly benefit them if they use the apparatus
wisely and cautiously. I have experienced a new world in these tiny villages over the past
days. I am thankful to Mr. Bhupendra and Mr. Nirbhay for their efforts in the training
program too.
With this, I had completed all the 14 training sessions, at both Dungarpur and Salumber. In
Salumber, all the ALH's had been installed with Cleo units and computer units. One
computer in Baran has a faulty computer with a software issue. All the other computers and
Cleo units are functional, and all the adapter have also been fitted into the Cleo unit. Cleo
unit charges at the rate of 120-140watt/hour during peak time.

5th March
2020
I stayed back in Salumber on the day and made the travel to Salumber the following day.
6th,7th, and 8th
March 2020
On the 6th March 2020, starting my day at 9:00 AM, I left for Dungarpur from Salumber.
First, I took a shared auto to Aspur and then got on a bus to Dungarpur. I checked into Hotel
RamNiwas and after freshening up, I left for Simalwada and reached by 2:00 PM and walked
to the ASC at Simalwada next to the Bombay Hotel. Mr. Janmejaya was waiting for me at
the time. The Cleo unit at the ASC, at the time, was charging and the output values also
changed when the system was connected to a computer or mobile phone. We connected the
device to the phone and let the battery drain, disconnecting it from the solar charging.
We left for Mormoudi from there, and, reached Mormoudi by shared auto at around 3:30
PM. We got the keys to Anganwadi from Mr. Ramlal. I checked the device for its charging
and discharging. Input and output are functioning, and the units are charging. At around 3:50
PM, input was 90W. The mobile phone draws around 7W DC and the computer draws
around 70W AC when connected. From there, we headed to Simalwada ASC back again and
rechecked the Cleo unit, the unit was fully functional and was also charging. We took a
shared jeep back to Dungarpur and reached back around 7:10 PM.
On the 7th March 2020, I had gone early to the Dungarpur office, after collecting keys from
Mr. Janmejaya. The installed Cleo unit was fully functional and was charging too. At 8:00
AM the input was around 80W. The sun was sharp at this time and by noon the input would
vary anywhere between 120-140W. All the Cleo units above mentioned have also been fitted
with 2 European to Indian adapters. The system at the office at Dungarpur has not been
connected to any computer from its AC plug point. With this, I had completed all the tasks
allocated to me.
After having the approval to return to HO, I boarded on the bus to Udaipur from Dungarpur.
From Udaipur, I took a bus to Jaipur, and finally the Bus to Delhi and reached Delhi on the
8th
of March 2020.
It was a wonderful time in Rajasthan, learning about the cultures, traditions and eating
habits. I made a lot of friends during the trip. Dungarpur and Salumber are both cities full of
potential and are changing rapidly. These places could someday be the cultural hubs of
Rajasthan attracting a lot of tourists from outside India.
I believe I was able to communicate to them what I had learned in the past years. I also
believe that we as a team were able to inspire them and instill in them the importance of
education. The installed Cleo unit and computer system would most certainly help a lot of
youth in accomplishing their dreams. In the generation of computers and technology, it is
also a necessity for the people we have trained to update, adapt and move forward. I
sincerely thank all the field staff and the people who helped us during the launch and training
events.

Re pragaati installation, launch and training event dungarpur and salumber 13 2-2020 to 8-3-2020

  • 1. A2: Team Member Report Name: Mr. Sharath Kumar M S Project Area: Rajasthan: Udaipur and Dungarpur (14 ALH’s) Program: RE: Pragati, Installation of the CLEO units at the ALH, launch event and training program. Date: 13th February 2020 – 8th March 2020 DAY-WISE ACTIVITY REPORT Date Report on activities carried out, sites visited, observations, problems 13th and 14th February 2020 On the 13/2/2020, I left from Gurgaon sector 48 to Hero Honda chowk on auto and reached at 8:30 PM. After having to wait for about 40 minutes for the bus to arrive, I finally was inside the bus at around 9:10 PM. The bus stopped in between for dinner at around 11:00 PM near the Rajasthan border. The bus reached the destination, Udaipur, at 9:00 AM. From the income tax office Udaipur, the last stopping place, I took an auto to the Bus stop. I immediately got a bus to Dungarpur which left at 9:30 AM. After reaching Dungarpur at around 11:30 AM and checking into Hotel RamNiwas, freshening up and having my lunch, I met Mr. Janmejaya at around 1:45 PM and we together left to Ratanpur road, Bohra Musafir khana complex. We met Mr. Yogesh, owner of the “Yogesh Energy Services”, a Waaree established solar franchise selling products such as Solar panels, inverter, and battery. I briefed him about the requirements and give him the dimensions of the solar panel. He told us that he had 3 fixtures at the time, and he would be willing to do the installation, transportation for INR 10.5/ watt. Later at 2:50 PM, I met with Mr. Keshav and together went to Dungarpur “Renewable Energy Technologies Pvt.Ltd”, it is a solar cell manufacturing place where there are only tribal women workers in the manufacturing unit. We were taken around the manufacturing complex by Mr. Jugal Kishore. Unfortunately, they did not make fixtures, but Mr. Jugal had told us that he would be able to procure us the fixtures in 4-5 days. We went looking for other suppliers but unfortunately had no luck, the fabricators we met also said they would need the dimensions and it would take 4-5 days for them to fabricate the solar panel stand/fixture.
  • 2. Early Morning Udaipur Yogesh Energy Services, Dungarpur One leg stand system for the solar panel Quotation from Mr. Yogesh, Yogesh Energy Services, Dungarpur 15th February 2020 Starting my day at 9:30 AM, I went to the Dungarpur office and by then, Mr. Keshav and Mr. Janmejaya had already received the solar panels that had arrived from the Gurgaon office. A total of 9 panels, 4 cabinets, and 4 Cleo units had been unloaded. Transportation arrangements for 2 panels, 2 Cleo units, and 2 solar panels were made, and, we together left for Ghata village on the same transport truck. We had reached Ghata Anganwadi at around 11:10 AM. 1 solar panel, 1 Cleo unit and 1 cabinet were unloaded at Ghata for installation. After Mr. Jibin had a telephonic conversation with the Anganwadi teacher of Ghata and clarifying them about the purpose of the installation and its uses to the school children, we proceeded
  • 3. with the installation of solar panels. The panel foundation was drilled facing the southeast direction and the front leg and the back leg made an angle of 23° which is the optimum tilt for Dungarpur. The other solar panel, Cleo unit, and cabinet was transported to Renta village on the same day. Since there were changes made, suggesting a 4-leg support fixture instead of a 2-leg support system, Mr. Keshav, and Mr. Naushad, the installer had gone back to Dungarpur to get the material. Also, the screws to wall mount the cabinets were missing and they bought them too. The school had been closed for the day and the Anganwadi teacher had handed over the keys to me and let us use the classroom for the following day’s inauguration and training session. Anganwadi classrooms are for children between 3-5 years and only these children make use of the rooms. Anybody wanting to use laptops or other devices connected to CLEO units would have to use the system when the Anganwadi classes are dismissed for the day. There are also other classrooms for children between 5- 15years and we, unfortunately, did not have permission to install the units there. We will hopefully finish the installation of the panels today with the four-legged fixture and also wall-mount the cabinets. If everything is done by the end of the day and if there is still sun in the sky, we will also check the charging rate of the Cleo unit. The 4-leg fixture had arrived by 5:30 PM. Mr. Keshav and Mr. Naushad had also bought the required screws for Cleo cabinet wall mounting. By 6:40 PM we had installed the solar panels on the top of the roof of the Anganwadi. Cement, sand, and gravel were also mixed in proportions and applied onto the fixture foundation to hold the structure tight. Holes were also drilled on the walls on the same day to mount the cabinets and the Cleo units were kept inside the cabinets. I had also coordinated with Mr. Janmejaya and the MCS team regarding the following day’s training activity. We had left Ghata around 8:30 PM after installation of solar panels and Cleo units and reached Dungarpur at around 9:10 PM by auto. The Anganwadi at Ghata Earlier installed 1 leg solar panel support system
  • 4. 4-legged support system and the installed solar panel facing the southeast direction with An optimum tilt of 24o
  • 5. The cabinets being wall mounted The completed installation of the cabinets onto the wall 16th February 2020 Starting the day at 9:00 AM, I went to the office to meet Janmejaya and we left for Ghata taking attendance sheets and response formats. Mr. Swayang had told me about the collect app the previous day. Since it was Sunday, it was difficult on that day to get the banners ready. We went forward as planned and by 10:30 PM we reached Ghata taking our laptop, the pre and post questionnaire and a spirit to teach. Early morning, we saw that the charging rate was lesser than expected and we sorted it out with the help of Mr. Yogesh, our installer. Mr. Janmejaya had done mobilization, while I and Mrs. Lalita cleaned the Anganwadi and set up the training environment. By 11:30 PM, around 35 had gathered including 5 elderly, the sarpanch, parents of few trainees. The inauguration was made by the sarpanch and the ribbon was cut by a little girl.
  • 6. Mr. Janmejaya introduced me to the crowd and I briefed them about the importance of the digital world, the need for renewable energy, their abundance, and stressed on girl's education. They all seem to agree upon the need to change and to take education seriously. I showed the Sarpanch and the few elders the device and briefed them on how to operate it and how the current is being derived from solar panel installed on the rooftop. I also told them to ensure that the Cleo unit is used for education purposes only and not for personal needs. The actual training session for the youth began by noon. Before I gave them the pre- assessment test format, I briefed them about general concepts on electricity and energy. They had a basic understanding of some concepts, but they were very quick to grasp things. Mrs. Lalitha, the caretaker was also one of the participants. Starting with 3 participants initially, 2 other girls had later joined the session. The participants included: 1) Ms. Kausalya Ahari 2) Ms. Durga Bharanda 3) Ms. Anita Nanoma 4) Ms. Sheela Nanoma 5) Ms. Seema Bharanda 6) Ms. Lalitha Ahari I started with session 1 at 12:30 AM and by 2:30 PM, I had completed both the session 1 and 2. After the session we had participants speak up and explain to the rest of the class what they had learned. I also made them write some key points and gave them tips on how to remember with a single letter memory technique. Using a letter to trigger the memory worked very well and they were able to remember what units are used for current, voltage and power. They were able to learn concepts of DC and AC too. They understood global warming and were able to concur with how carbon is responsible for the increase in Earth’s temperature. We also made schematics and drawings to under concept easy. After the lunch break, I resumed the last session with the participants demonstrating their knowledge on the Cleo units. I had taught them how to switch on the device, and to turn it off, gave examples of when to use the machine and what are the compatible devices and how to find out its compatibility. They also were trained in solving simple problems of finding power with just voltage and current. Charging rate calculation was also received well by them. The last session went on until 3:40 PM and I gave them the post-assessment test to take. They had completed the test by 4:00 PM. I witnessed a lot of improvement in their confidence level too and they were much more interactive in the end and also put forth questions. After discussing the correct answers to the questions and further motivating them, I and Mr. Janmejaya left for Dungarpur by auto rickshaw. I had also checked for the European to Indian adapter and I was told that they are available right below our office in Dungarpur and they cost Rs.180 each.

Photographs of the training event at Ghata ALH Participants of the training event taking the post-assessment 17th February 2020 Starting the day at around 9:00 AM, I first went to the office, and since the banner was available only after 10:45 AM, we had to wait to receive it and then proceed to Vaktapur. We left for Vaktapur at around 11:00 AM and reached the place at around 12:20 PM. The place belongs to the Simalwada block and is about 56 km from Dungarpur. The school and the Anganwadi are situated in the interior of the village and the location is very serene. We were welcomed by the principal Mr. Madan Singh. The school has about 9 teachers and it is one of the most recognized schools in the place and they conduct cultural ceremonies thrice a year and the principal believes his students have great IQ and that one day they will be recognized as one of the best government schools. Even teachers have a daily uniform here. Mr. Janmejaya had previously coordinated with Ms. Leela Kumari and by 1:45 PM the training room was set up and the inauguration was done by the principal. A Little kid cut the ribbon along with the Principal. The teachers of the school, parents of children, many little children, training attendees were part of the inauguration. Mr. Janmejaya had introduced me
  • 9. to the gathering and briefed about the program. I addressed the gathering and thanked the principal for his generosity and his warm welcome. I also briefed the gathering about the project and what it will mean to them and how they could make use of it. I also briefed them about the importance of renewables and ended my part, asked the principal to also address the gathering. After he delivered his words and urged the gathering to make use of the systems, we ended the inauguration session at around 2:20 PM. I started the training session with 3 youth initially, all women above the age of 18 years. Later after a few minutes, the training session had an additional 3 more youth of which 2 were above 18 and one was of the age 15 The participants included: 1) Ms. Leela Kumari Damor 2) Mr. Rakesh Damor 3) Mr. Mukesh Damor 4) Ms. Lakshmi Kumari Damor 5) Ms. Manjula Kumari Damor 6) Mr. Lalit Kumar Damor 7) Ms. Yashoda Kumari Damor 8) Ms. Meena Kumari Damor Before I took the first session, I asked them if they knew any electrical concepts and they did know some of the basic things about electricity and energy. I also briefed a few concepts before I gave them the pre-assessment test to take. Mr. Rakesh and Ms. Yashoda were the top performers and have a score of 6 and 5 out of 12 respectively. Ms. Manjula Kumari Damor who had come late to the training also took the pre-assessment test later and has a score of 8. The participants had explained what they had learned to her. The rest of the participants have a score of 3-4 but they all had an understanding that solar is responsible for lower carbon emission and that coal is responsible for higher carbon emission. I took the first session from 2:40 PM to 3:40 PM and took a lunch break after that. Starting the session again by 4:00 PM, we had 2 more addition Ms. Lakshmi Kumari and Ms. Manjula Kumari. I asked the attendees to brief whatever they had learned in the first session, by doing this, they showed more confidence in explaining the subject and were also able to recall concepts. The second session and third session went on until 5:20 PM, covering topics on solar panels, Cleo unit maintenance, switch on methods, ways of charging, AC and DC. After covering each subject, we revisited the older concepts we had learned. I asked them to make bullet points on their books and make drawings to remember things. They all seemed to like the practical session which included roleplay and games. In the game, they played roles as electricity, voltage, and resistance. I also passed on the Cleo units and gave them scenarios and asked them if they would be able to charge the device or not. The group was very eager to learn and there was a bit of competitiveness too. Although some were shy initially, they all picked up later and even asked questions. Before giving them the post- assessment test, I revisited all the concepts we had covered on the day. I gave them the test and by 5:40 PM they were done with the test too. 5 of them have a score of above 7 out of 14.
  • 10. I thanked them for attending the session and they have said they would educate others about Renewable energy. They have also promised to make use of the installed facility. I left Vaktapur after cleaning the place with the help of the youth. We left for Ranbhatiya to check the status of the unit as there was supposed to be a launch and training event the following day. The unit was charging at the time, but the cabinet for the Cleo unit had not been installed. We left Vaktapur at around 6:35 PM, reached Dungarpur at around 8:20 PM and I wrapped my day. • 11. Photographs of the training event held at Vaktapur Participants of the training event at Vaktapur 18th February 2020 On 18/2/2020, Starting the day at about 9:00 AM, I went to the office first and after taking all the required items, we left for Ranbhatiya at around 10:30 AM. Ranbhatiya is about 65km from Dungarpur and we reached there by 12:10 PM. We met the principal of the school, teachers of the school and the little kids that were at the time at the Anganwadi. Before we organized the training session, I made kids play games and got to know them better. Mrs. Sangeetha and Mr. Janmejaya did the mobilization and by 12:30 PM there were about 35 people which included teachers, school kids, parents and the attendees of the training session. The tape was cut by the principal and the little girl child of the Anganwadi. Janmejaya introduced me to the crowd and I briefed everybody about the purpose of the training and the purpose of installation of such a system. Carbon dioxide and its effects on earth were understood well by the crowd. The fact that the little kids were able to pronounce carbon dioxide right instilled more hope in me. These little toddlers are someday going to see a world run by renewables only. Most kids wanted to stay in the training session but unfortunately, they had to go back to their respective classes. I started the actual session at 1:10 PM after everyone arrived. The training consisted of 4 women including Mrs. Sangeetha, C&C. Mrs. Sangeetha has a BA degree and is a mother of two and still is very eager to learn. The other women in the
  • 12. session Ms. Bhavna, Ms. Munna, Ms. Priyanka are all pursuing their BA. The one lad in the session was Mr. Kiran who is pursuing his 11th Standard now. They all had little understanding of electricity and everybody almost knew how dangerous electricity can be. Before I gave them the pre-assessment test, I gave them a small session of what electricity is and what things are made of. I did not want them to take the test with absolutely no information. The participants did fairly well in the test, but nobody had a score of more than 8 out of 12. Ms. Munna and Mr. Kiran had the highest score of 6 and 8 out of 12, respectively. With an understanding of what they are capable of, I decided to make this training session a bit more extensive than the previous ones. I covered topics starting from atoms, photoelectric effect, AC and DC, solar panels working, materials used, inverters, Cleo unit. During the sessions, to make their understanding easier, I used a very easy day to day activities to explain concepts. We also played games such as what would you do in this scenario? The participants liked it and persisted that more concepts are practically taught. I also handed the Cleo units to each one and asked them to switch on and off the system, charge the system. Since there were only 5 participants, we had Abundant time, and everybody got a chance to practically operate Cleo unit. The only thing I could not do was to take them onto the roof to show them the solar panel. They wanted to see it when I told them they operate the best at a certain tilt and angle. Constant revision of the topics coupled with them explaining the topic enhanced their skill, and, I believe, I was able to establish a strong foundation of electricity in them. I gave them the Post-assessment around 5:10 PM, after the completion and multiple revision of all the three sessions. Ms. Priyanka was not able to take the test, unfortunately. She was required by her parents. Between 4 PM to 5 PM, we had a new participant Ms. Kailash who is an 8th std student. I briefed her about all the topics discussed in the day while others took the test. She is an extremely bright little girl and almost instantly grasped everything I had explained to her. 3 of them have scored above 8 out of 14. Mrs. Sangeetha had most mistakes, but that could be because she had to also attend her 2-month-old baby. Mrs. Sangeetha had made the best attempt to be in the training session. After thanking them and further urging them to continue their education and follow their dreams, we left Ranbhatiya. We reached Dungarpur at around 7:20 PM and I ended my day. • 14. Stills of the training event conducted at Ranbhatiya ALH 19th February 2020 On the 19/2/2020, we had left to Ambau from Dungarpur and reached there by 11:30 PM. The installation was still pending at the time. By 12:45 PM, the installation was completed. Mr. Yogesh, our installer was also present at the time and I had checked the tilt angle and the direction one more time before the final masonry job was done to consolidate the foundation. Meantime, Mr. Janmejaya, Mr. Rajeev Damor, and Mr. Ramlal Damor had done the mobilization work. The school children also had a lunch break. Mrs. Rekha had cleaned the Anganwadi and had we had prepared the Anganwadi for the launch event and training session. Unfortunately, since we had delayed the launch event by almost 3 hours due to unforeseen delays that we had not expected, we had to just conduct the launch event. By, 1:45 PM, children, parents, and teachers had come to the Anganwadi. Whilst we waited, I had conversation with the people gathered and spoke to them about Renewables in general. By 2:00 PM, the principal of the school inaugurated the new Anganwadi, set up with our Cleo units, solar panels, and computer system. Mr. Janmejaya did the introduction and I addressed the gathering about the purpose of installation of the units, its benefits for youth and how they could make the best utilization of the installed system. We finished the launch event by 2:40 PM. I spoke to the teachers, children and the participants of the training session and told them that the training session would happen on a different day and extended my apologies to them.
  • 15. After playing cricket with the kids for some time, we left Ambau at around 3:20 PM. We reached Dungarpur at around 5:20 PM and I wrapped my day. Pictures of the launch event at Ambau ALH 20th February 2020 On 20/2/2020, Mr. Janmejaya was at my place at 7:00 AM exactly and after having a conversation and having sent emails to Mr. Swayang, we headed to Block headquarters Simalwada by a shared jeep. We took the auto to the jeep stand, and from there left to Simalwada on a shared jeep and reached Simalwada by 9:10 AM. We were instructed to find government officials for the launch event and to not carry out the launch event at Mormoudi without the presence of government officials. With that in mind, I
  • 16. and Mr. Janmejaya met Mr. Ramlal Karadi (BEO, Simalwada),83002085110 and he said he would be willing to attend the launch event only after March. He told us that he would not be able to attend the launch event in Mormoudi ton the day as he was already occupied on the day. He has suggested we contact Mr. Gopal Khatara who is a committee member of the Block headquarters too. We left Simalwada on instructions received by Janmejaya from the MCS team. We reached back to Dungarpur and went to the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan. Mr. Janmejaya had a telephonic conversation with Mr. Pradeep Meena and he had told us that he could arrange for the government officials' presence during the launch events for the dates 22nd, 23rd and 24/25th. 21st February 2020 Programs scheduled on this day were postponed to a different day on account of Maha Shiva Ratri. 22nd February 2020 On the 22/2/2020, starting my day at 8:00 AM, we left for Renta village by an auto- rickshaw. The village is about 28km from Dungarpur and is situated at a greater elevation than the rest of Dungarpur. The village is also comparatively bigger than the rest of the villages in the surrounding area. The village has 400 houses. We reached Renta at around 9:30 AM. Mr. Sohan Parki and Mr. Janmejaya were involved in mobilization and by 10:15 AM even Mr. Ganpat, NYKS coordinator had also made it to Renta. The inauguration was attended by School children, their parents, Sarpanch, Vice Sarpanch, ward panch, teachers and training event participants. The inauguration consisted of about 35-40 individuals. The ribbon was cut by a little girl along with Mr. Ganpat and Mr. Harish Koted, deputy Sarpanch. The training space had been cleaned and we had installed the banner and also checked if the computers and other systems were functional. I had shown little children how to paint on the computer before the inauguration. Mr. Janmejaya introduced me to the crowd and briefed them about Pragya. I addressed the crowd and detailed them about the purpose of our project, how the installation would be of use to them, what benefits it would mean to youth. The crowd responded very well in Renta and Mr. Ganpat also addressed the gathering. The inauguration ceremony was concluded by 11:10 AM. We took a short break, thanked everyone for giving their time to us. Refreshments were distributed and the PRI members were very cooperative and assisted us throughout the program. The training session started from 11:30 AM and it had 5 participants including C &C Mrs. Geetha. All the participants were above 18 years and had some level of understanding of Electricity. Before the pre-assessment, I had introduced them to atoms and some basics of electricity to be able to take the test confidently. Participants included: 1) Ms. Rekha Koted 2) Mr. Dhaneshwar Ahari
  • 17. 3) Mr. Rahul Koted 4) Mr. Arvind Koted 5) Mrs. Geetha Paragi The participants did fairly well in the pre-assessment, with everyone scoring above 6 out of 12. I then started with the first session, covering topics on atoms, semiconductors, photoelectric effect, AC, DC, renewable and non- renewables. We had a small tea break after that, and we resumed with session 2 after the break. In session 2, we discussed the materials used in solar panels, semiconductors, effects of shading on the solar panel, the effects of dust on the efficiency of the solar panel. We also revised session 1 and 2 before we took a break for lunch. We resumed with the last and final session of the training program, covering capacity of solar panel, Cleo unit, charging the Cleo, Do's and Don’ts, compatible devices, calculation of watts, calculation of current. I gave them a practical lesson and handed the Cleo units to them to operate. I also made them familiar with scenarios in which they had to decide whether to charge the device or not. I also involved them in small skits where they played the role of electricity, voltage, and resistance. Problems were also given to them to solve. And they also seem to like the practical part much more than theory. Mr. Dhaneshwar was an ITI student, Mrs. Geetha has done her BA, Ms. Rekha is pursuing her BA, the 2 other lads are in their 12th standard. After revising again, I handed them the post-assessment questionnaires. Everyone has a score of more than 8 out of 14, Dhaneshwar has only 2 errors scoring 12. Mrs. Rekha, Mr. Arvind, and Mr. Rahul have a score of 8, 10 and 8 respectively. I discussed the answers to the questions again for both post-assessment and pre-assessment and left the place at around 4:25 PM and went back to Dungarpur by bus. We reached Dungarpur at 6 PM and I concluded my day. On the right is Renta Anganwadi where we have installed the Cleo units. On the left are Mr. Ganpat, NYKS coordinator and Mr. Harish Koted, deputy Sarpanch.

The ribbon was cut by Ms. Meena Damor, in the presence of the principal of the school, Mr. Gopal and along with the little kid of Mormoudi. Mr. Janmejaya introduced me to the people and I briefed them about the purpose of installation and its benefits and how they could make use of it. I also briefed them about the importance of renewable energy and how education could change the life of a girl. They took it very well, gave in their inputs and also appreciated us for our work. I introduced Ms. Meena to the crowd and she also spoke about the importance of education for the girl child. She urged everyone to use the installed system and make the best use of it. We ended the launch event with the vote of thanks and took a break. Refreshments were arranged as well. After s short break, we proceeded with the training event. To my surprise, everyone from the launch event had sat down for the training too. I was very overwhelmed and told them the training would be for at least 4 hours and there would be tests too. They said they wanted to attend the training and would be willing to take the tests too. In the end, after Mr. Janmejaya telling them that they would be briefed about today's learning by the participants of the training event, some children left for the day. In the end, we were left with 11 participants, all youths, whose eyes shined, and were very eager to learn. I persisted that it is fair for anybody interested to attend the training. We started the training session at 11:10 AM. Before I gave them the pre-test, I introduced them to some concepts of electricity. They were very sharp, and in fact, this group was perhaps the brightest I had come across so far. Even the principal sat with us during the training event. The participants of the training event included: 1) Ms. Sangeetha Damor 2) Ms. Jyotsna Kumari 3) Mr. Naresh Kumar Damor 4) Mr. Heera Lal Damor 5) Mr. Jitendra Damor 6) Mr. Sanjay Kumar Damor 7) Ms. Soomi Damor 8) Ms. Daksha Kumari Damor 9) Mr. Pradip Kumar Damor 10) Mr. Gayatri Damor 11) Mr. Gopal Krishna Karayi The best pre-test score was 9 out of 12 and everybody has scored above 5 in their pre-test. The group was very lively and almost instantly picked up each topic that was discussed. Everyone in the group had basic education until the 12th. A few of them are Pursuing their BA too. Most of them, without me telling, had started to note down the right answers on their books as I discussed the answers. This gave me a lot of confidence to teach them in-depth about some of the topics which I had only skimmed in the previous training sessions. I started the first session at around 11: 50AM, covering concepts on atoms, the periodic table, compounds, semiconductors, AC and DC. They received the teaching very well noting
  • 20. down everything. This group was is an example of how 1 or 2 right people can change the mindset of the entire group. The group was also very competitive and gave answers to every question. Every answer they gave was right, almost every time. We took a short tea break after session 1 and had a conversation about the culture, traditions of Rajasthan. In session 2, I covered renewable energy systems and discussed the history of electricity and how it was made the first time. I also showed them pictures of the earliest batteries. I covered topics such as materials of the solar cell, components of solar energy systems, conversion of DC to AC, types of batteries, shading and its effects. I gave them as many simple examples as I could to help them absorb the most. I insisted they make pictorial representation and make flowcharts to remember things better. We took a lunch break after session 2 and even during the lunch break, they discussed wind turbines, business, economics, politics, and even mythology. The final session resumed by 2:30 PM covering the most important topics of the day on operating Cleo units, it's maintenance, Dos and Don'ts, compatibility of the system, voltage, current, resistance and power calculations. I extensively carried out practical sessions on how to handle the system with scenarios in which they had to do the calculation to check whether or not the device is compatible with the installed Cleo unit. I gave them only voltage and current and asked them if they are connectable with the devices and yes, I received the right answers most of the time. I revised what we had learned in the day with them giving a summary of the topic. I carried another round of revision before I gave them the post-assessment. Everyone in the group has a score of above 8 out of 14 with Ms. Sangeetha scoring 13 out of 14. I discussed what wrong they had done in the tests and how they can carry on and teach others what they had learned during the day. I thanked them for giving their time for us and for staying throughout the training session. They thanked us too for our effort and have told me that they would make the best use of the installed system. They have asked me to come back again sometime to see their improvement. The principal also told me that he would take my suggestion of teaching chess at his school. We said goodbye to each other and ended the training session at 5:10 PM To me, it was a very special day and it made me very content and instilled in me a sense of success. We took a shared jeep back to Dungarpur from Mormoudi and reached around 7:20 PM.

The place is about 43 km from Dungarpur. We reached the place at around 10:15 AM
  • 23. The Panchayat office is situated in the elevated area and is a hub for all the farmers' grievances about land, property, farming and other things. The place has only one floor and the CLEO unit is installed in the big hall of the panchayat office. Our ASC storage rack is in the other room. The hall is quite big and can contain more than 100 people. When we reached there, there were few People and panchayat officers. I checked if the device is charging and the direction of the solar panel and they all seem fine. Mr. Janmejaya was involved in mobilization meanwhile, and it took him some time to organize people for the launch event. Finally, we had about 30-35 people in the inauguration event, most people were residents of the same village, and there were also participants in the test event. There were not many children in the launch event but consisted mostly of people in the age between 20-70. The launch event started at 11:10 AM and the inauguration of the event was done by Mr. Bhagwati Prasad, ward panch, Asiyabao Panchayat, Mr. Dhanpal Bharanda, block-level coordinator NYKS, and Mr. Devilal Koted, Panchayat revenue officer. Janmejaya introduced me to the people gathered and I briefed about the purpose of installation and the importance of green energy. I also showed them the working of Cleo unit and urged them to take the benefit of it. I asked them to communicate the same to the youth in their village and make them aware of the installed system so they could make use of it too. We ended the inauguration by about 11:50 AM with a vote of thanks and then took a short refreshments break. We started with the training session from 12:10 PM after the break. The training session had 6 members initially. 4 women and 2 men. Participants included: 1) Ms. Nirmal Kumari Karadi 2) Mr. Jaswanth Kumar Kheda 3) Mr. Prakash 4) Mrs. Hansa Bhagora 5) Ms. Anita Karadi 6) Mrs. Jyothi Before the pre-assessment, I gave them insight about electricity, I had asked them if they knew about electricity and unfortunately, nobody knew anything about it. After explaining them a few concepts, they had gained some confidence and agreed to take the test. The average score of the pre-test is 5 with everyone scoring less than 6 out of 12. With that in mind, I thought it would be wise to teach them basics only and not in-depth as their understanding of electricity was not as much compared to other villages. I discussed the right answers for the questions and asked them to make a note of it on the scribbling pads provided to them. I started the session 1 discussing atoms, current, voltage, and power. I did not discuss the concepts of AC and DC in depth but only told them that the installed device has the facility to provide both means of electricity. I conducted as many small skits/roleplays to make them remember things. I gave them names such as electrons, protons, neutrons, and sunlight to make them understand what is happening inside the panel when sunlight falls. I also covered topics on pollution due to the production of electricity by other means. I had also asked them
  • 24. to identify objects that conduct or electricity that are inside the room. This way I believed they understood the topics better. We took a lunch break after session 1 Session 2 started at 2:10 PM and included topics on the solar panel, components of the solar energy system, types of energy devices. I did not go into the working of the solar cell and its structure. After a short tea break, I resumed with session 3 covering Cleo unit capacity, compatible devices, dos and don'ts giving them a wide variety of examples and scenarios. I revised multiple times too and I had understood they were in a hurry too and few participants were going in and out too. Therefore, after the final revision and them explaining what they had understood, I gave them the post-assessment to take. Nobody has a score above 0 and the average score is 7 out of 14. I urged them to kindly incorporate whatever they had learned and asked them to educate others in their village about the system too. I also thought a few things on excel and PowerPoint just to show them how useful computer education could be. I left Asiyabao at around 4:10 PM, walked back to Lesana and took a taxi back to Dungarpur and ended my day. We had to wait for about half an hour for Ms. Varsha and Ms. Tina to come to the training event. I finally started with the training at around 11:50 AM. I knew the participants were sharp, as I had previously conversed with them and they had expressed a lot of interest to learn. The group was very excited for the day and they had also asked me to teach them computer basics as we waited for the other two to arrive. I had explained to them the functioning and uses of excel, word, and PowerPoint. I straight away gave them the pre-assessment test after explaining the basic concepts of electricity. The average pre-test score is above 6 for 12. I knew the group could absorb a lot and that it was an opportunity for me to try to involve them in complex problem solving too. I started the session 1 after discussing the right answers. The participants in the training session were: 1) Ms. Rekha Kumari Damor 2) Ms. Tina Kumari Damor 3) Ms. Varsha Kumari Damor 4) Mr. Anil Kumar Damor 5) Mr. Ashok Damor 6) Mr. Govardhan Lal Rekha is pursuing her BA, Tina and Varsha are both in their 12th standard. Ashok and Anil are also doing planning to do BA. Govardhan Lal is a farmer and is interested in incorporating solar to his farm. Session 1 covered topics on Atom, electrons, semiconductors, AC and DC. I also gave them problems on solving simple circuits and with one go they were able to solve for resistance, power. We took a tea break at 1:20 PM. The session was very lively and there was healthy banter too. Session 2 resumed after the break and it covered topics on components of the solar energy system, solar cell structure, functioning of lights, dual nature of light, photoelectric effect, carbon dioxide effects on earth, renewable energy and its uses. This session was lengthy and extensive and went on until 3:00 PM, I asked them if they wanted to take a lunch break, but they insisted that I complete all the things I had intended to cover before we took a lunch break. I also gave them points for each right answer, so they participate and are interactive during the training session. The final session started at 3:30 PM and went on until 4:40 PM, it was a complete practical session where scenarios of when to plug a device, when to charge, went to press the buttons of the system and, what to do to have a healthy efficiency. These concepts were learned by employing small scenario games and activities on how to maintain the unit. I gave them the post-assessment test after several rounds of revision and one to one discussion. Two participants Rekha and Anil have a score above 11. Other participants have a score above 7. The average score is 9 out of 14. With Ambau, I had completed the training event at all the 7 ASCs. We have put in our best efforts and worked hard as a team. It would not have
  • 27. been easy or possible for me to conduct the training session without the effort of many people who were involved in mobilization and preparation. I was supposed to proceed to Salumber the following day for the facilitation of the launch event and training session of 7 ALH’s at Salumber. I had spoken to Mr. Bhupendra Singh and it was decided to have our first event at Morilla. Photographs of the training event at Ambau ALH. 26th February 2020 Starting my day at 7:30 AM, I had checked out of Hotel RamNiwas and took an auto to the bus station. I boarded onto the bus leaving for Salumber and the bus left Dungarpur at 8:30 AM and reached Salumber via Aspur. The bus had also stopped in Aspur for some time and it was 11:10 PM by the time I reached Salumber. I checked into Hotel Sagar guest house and freshened up and was to leave for Morilla. Mr. Bhupendra Singh had gone forward with the launch event at Morilla and had finished it by 12:20 PM. Since it was late already, it was decided to carry out the training event for Malpur and Morilla together, the following day. 27th February 2020 I started my day at 8:30 AM and accompanied by Mr. Bhupendra Singh, reached Malpur at 9:30 AM. We opened the doors for the Krishi Kendra which is our newly assigned ALH in
  • 28. Malpur. This place is right opposite to the Anganwadi and the school. A lot of children had gathered for the day. The place is around 10km from Salumber and there is no public transport until Malpur. Bhupendra took some time to mobilize and by then people of the village had cleaned the place for us to start the Inauguration and training event. Children had gathered to have a look at the newly installed system. They were from the school opposite the ALH. The children were very bright and saw computers with awe. We had played cartoons on the computer for them to watch. Soon parents of the children and SHG's had gathered. There were around 50 people in total. We started the launch event at 11:30 AM. Mr. Sunil, Principal of higher secondary school Malpur and Sarpanch of Malpur Mr. Narender Pal Singh inaugurated the event. Mr. Bhupendra spoke to the people about the purpose of the day and the importance of renewables. He then introduced me to them. I addressed to them the benefits of having the system and how children were intrigued by it and how fast they had learned to use the computers. I asked Mr. Sunil to address the people too. He stressed on what I had said. He asked people to make use of it and continue their education and not to drop out. Mr. Narendra Pal also addressed the gathering and told how education is a must and that he has been stressing the same to his grandchildren. I started with the training session by 12:15 PM and I asked them if they would be able to devote their time. They said yes and I gave them the pre-assessment test after explaining a few basics of electricity. After discussing the answers quickly, I told them I would be teaching them about electricity, how to use the installed system and how to maintain it. Most of them have a score of less than 4 out of 12 in the pre-test. I had to end the training event after session 1 as many had to attend the marriage ceremony in their village, and many of them did not seem to have any interest too. They wanted to learn how to use WhatsApp, Facebook, and Tiktok. I told them I am sorry and that I would not be able to teach them all that. I asked them to kindly continue their education and not drop out. I urged the women present to continue their education and make use of the installed systems. As told by Ms. Rupi Meena, C&C, some of the participants in the training event were not the same as the one in the list she had sent. Many of them on the list had exams it seems. Also, I could not force the youth to sit for long hours. They wouldn’t be able to absorb anything without interest; therefore, I wished them luck and wrapped the training session. We left Malpur at 3:30 PM and returned to Salumber at around 5:00 PM.

Youths from both Malpur and Morilla were part of the training event 28th February 2020 On 28/2/2020, Starting the day at 8:30 AM, I and Mr. Bhupendra left for Village Anjani and first went to Karawali and then had to walk for 3 km. We finally got a shared jeep until Anjani and we reached there by 11:10 AM. Anjani is on the way to Lasadiya and it is about 28km from Salumber. By then Ms. Durga, C&C of Anjani had already mobilized some people and little children of Anganwadi and SHG groups and parents of the children and local youth had gathered. Mr. Bhupendra further mobilized and there were around 35-40 people during the inauguration. The inauguration was done by Mr. Lal Singh, CDPO, ISDC, Lasadiya and Gram Pradhan of Anjani Mr. Ramesh Meena. The ribbon-cutting was done by the little girl child of Anjani Anganwadi. Bhupendra briefed about the purpose of installation and the importance of renewables. He introduced me to the gathering and I addressed them about the same and how the installed system could be made the most benefit of, before the chief guest had arrived, I had introduced them to the operations of the Cleo units, it's capacity and how to maintain. This was well received by the SHG community headed by Mrs. Lakshmi Meena. The people here also answered and responded to the questions put forth by us. Mr. Lal Singh also addressed the gathering and stressed on the importance of education for girls and urged them to study well.
  • 31. The Inauguration was concluded by noon and we took a break. By 12:10 PM we started the training session. I had also interacted with the participants before and I had shown them excel and some basic operations on the computer. Some of the people also wanted to remain for the training event, but when I told them there would be tests, they chose to listen from outside. The participants of the training were: 1) Mr. Valaram Meena 2) Mr. Chetan Kumar Meena 3) Ms. Durga Kumari Meena 4) Ms. Kali Kumari Meena 5) Ms. Kamala Kumari Meena 6) Mr. Shankar Lal Meena Before I started the session 1, I gave them an insight into electricity, renewables and electricity production. I saw their potential and decided to teach even the tougher electricity concepts of AC and DC. After discussing the answers for pre-test, I began the session 1 covering topics of atoms, Renewables, materials used in solar cells. Session 1 was received well and even Mr. Bhupendra had made efforts to teach them what he had listened to. After a short break, I started with session 2 covering the effects of excessive load on the system, shading effects, calculation of power. We took a lunch break after session 2 and resumed session 3 covering dos and don'ts, capacity, compatible devices, charging methods. I finally ended the training session with lots of revision and a practical session where we had scenario games too. The post-assessment indicates that they have understood if not all but most concepts very well. They understood the system very well but were unable to grasp a few tougher concepts. I discussed the answers quickly as the woman had to attend their families. Mr. Shankar has a score of 10 out 14, although he has only education until 5, he had a great interest and he told us that he would educate as many people as he could. The average score is 7 out of 14. We left Anjani at around 3:45 PM and Mr. Shankar dropped us until Karawali. I checked the systems installed at Karawali and the installed Cleo unit was charging. At around 4:10 PM there was still bright sun and the input was still around 99 watts. From there, we were able to catch the bus going to Aspur and we got down near our office at around 4:50 PM. The system installed at our office in Salumber, KD plaza was also functioning well. At 5:00 PM, the input was around 47watts and by 5:30 it was 20 watts. Our HP Printer is not functional with the CLEO unit. We plugged CPU and the monitor and they both were compatible with the Unit consuming 90watt power per hour. A fully charged Cleo unit can run the system for about 4 hours before it shuts down automatically when it drops down to a 15% charge. DC USB cables for charging that work by pressing the DC button consume 5 watts and can be plugged in for 70-75 hours.

Agar is about 28km from Salumber and is situated at a very remote location. The importance of education is still less understood by the people even today. People had already gathered for the inauguration and further mobilization was done by Ms. Ganga. I, Mr. Nirbhay and Mrs.Bhabri, Anganwadi in charge prepared the Anganwadi for the launching event. Around 40-45 people had gathered that included Anganwadi kids, SHG groups, parents of kids, training participants. The inauguration was concluded by around 11:40 AM. Nirbhay briefed the people about the purpose of the installation of the device and handed the stage to me. I briefed the gathering about the installed system, interacted with the audience and understood them better. I urged everyone to make the best use of the system and to kindly continue with education. Parents have promised to send their children to school regularly. The training session started at around noon after the arrival of 3 new participants. Ms. Ganga believed that they were the right candidates for the training. After explaining the participants about a few concepts on electricity, I gave them the pre-assessment test. The Participants of the training event included: 1) Ms. Laali 2) Ms. Pinka 3) Ms. Ganga Kumari 4) Mr. Navaj Ram 5) Mr. Padam Lal 6) Mrs. BabriBai At first, they did not know how to fill the pre-assessment test. After I and Ms. Ganga explaining to them, groups were made, and the answers were discussed. There are very few educated people in Aggad and even today, girls are married very early in their lives and education is still not seen as something that would change their lives.
  • 36. I decided to keep the training session short and to cover only the main concepts. There were 3 male participants and 3 female participants all over 18 years. Ms. Ganga, our C&C was one of the participants. She is in her final BA and was the highest scorer of the pre- assessment test. Although Some of the male participants had little education, they were able to understand concepts such as battery when I told them that such a system is used even in their bikes. I asked them to communicate what they had understood to the rest of the Class. Session 1 covered topics like atoms, AC and DC, Renewable and non-renewable energy. After a short break, we resumed with session 2 covering topics on the efficiency of solar systems, components, effects of shading and dust on panels. I repeated this session several times and made them understand the difference between battery and inverter. Ms. Ganga and Mr. Nirbhay also joined the groups and helped them understand better. Having done the practical and the final session, I gave them the post-assessment test. I included the scenario type of seeking a solution to a problem. I also conducted the last round discussion with Ms. Ganga leading one session, and, me leading the other. That way, the group finally did find the concepts interesting and were able to operate the device. They could not understand electricity concepts, however. With that, we urged again to use the systems installed at the ALC. I also stressed how near to their houses these units have been installed. I think they understand the importance of our effort. Ms. Ganga has said she will instill more awareness and see to that the supplementary classes held at ALH are attended by as many girls as possible. During the training event, we had a little kid by the name Ms. Narayani, who is physically challenged. When I had seen her earlier in the morning, she had guided the other children to the Anganwadi. This kid is just 11 and sat with us nodding her head. The was something amazing. I left Aggad at around 3:40 PM and reached Salumber by 5:00 PM. The Anganwadi Kendra at Aggad where the Cleo units and computer system are installed.

  • 39. Photographs of the launch event at Aggad ALH Photographs of the training event at Aggad, ALH 1st March 2020 Starting my day at 9:00 AM, I first went to Karawali by bus and reached the village Deoliya which is a little further than Aggad. The place is about 35 km Salumber and there were hardly any buses on the day, and we had a walk for the most bit until Deoliya. We reached Deoliya at around 11:10 AM. The C&C at Deoliya Ms. Girija Kumari Meena had mobilized a small group of children and they watched educational rhymes until the rest of the crowd had arrived. SHG groups, parents and training participants arrived by 11:30 AM.
  • 40. The inauguration was done by Mr. Puri Lal Meena, ward panch of Deoliya. A total of 60 participants were part of the launch event. After Mr. Bhupendra briefed them about the event, I and Mr. Puri Lal Meena, the head of the village addressed the gathering on the importance of education and the way forward for them. The place has many dropouts and Deoliya also has low women literacy due to dropouts. The number of people pursuing graduation is low. There was only one woman in the training session who is pursuing her graduation. Ending the launch event at around 12:10 PM, we took a short refreshment break. I had asked the gathering to be serious about education and that, mobile phones and laptops are not just meant for entertainment purposes as they think to be, and, there is so much to learn and be productive. We started with the training session from 12:20 AM with participants: 1) Mrs. Roopa Devi 2) Ms. Monika Vairagi 3) Ms. Lali Meena 4) Mr. Harshith Vairagi 5) Mr. Lokesh Kumar Meena 6) Ms. Seetha Meena. 7) Ms. Girija Meena We had few school children and elderly sit in the training session too. They sat there out of their interest. In the pre-assessment, only Ms. Girija and Ms. Monika had performed well, and the rest had a score between 3-5 out of 12. Session 1 was held after discussing the answers to pre-assessment. Most of them were able to learn something after group discussions. I stressed the implications of producing electricity from non-renewable. They now know that pollution levels are higher due to the production of electricity from coal, and other conventional means of energy resources. Global warming and its effects and how different countries are combatting the same issue were likely understood by them. After the lunch break, we resumed session 2 and session 3 with an extensive practical session. I handed the system to them so they can operate it themself and understand how easy it is. I also conducted scenario games like before. I revised many times before I gave them the post-assessment test and they have performed fairly well in the post-assessment test. The post-assessment test was also discussion type and the answers were discussed. It was an open book test too and I asked them to answer whatever they had understood. By 4:10 PM they handed the post-assessment formats and I discussed the answers to the post-assessment. We left for Salumber back from Deoliya and reached around 6:10 PM and I ended my day. The system installed at Deoliya is also functioning and is charging with no problems and the solar charging input is a 130-watt peak at noon.
  • 42. Pictures of the launch and training event at Deoliya ALH Participants of the training event at Deoliya ALH 2nd March 2020 On the 2/3/2020, starting at 9:30 AM from Salumber, we left for Dholiya which is 45Km from Salumber. We reached there by 10:45 AM. Dholiya is the final village in the Lasadiya block. This village has about 50 houses and about 250-300 people are residing in this small village. The condition of this part of the world is still very different. There are still many girls here, that are married early in their lives and study until the 8th standard. The dropout rates are high among both boys and girls. This place predominantly relies on agriculture and the people are not aware of the current affairs of the world. It is as though they have shut their windows to the outside world.
  • 43. When we reached there, Mrs. Lakshmi, our C&C had mobilized around 20-25 children and women, they had gathered at the Anganwadi. The Anganwadi has 2 rooms and the system is installed in the smaller room where our storage rack is also kept. The bigger room is where children have their classes usually. The installed system was working fine and is charging with an input of about 130watt at 11:00 PM. We had cleaned the Anganwadi and made it ready for the Launch event. By 11:10 AM, there were about 50 people including SHGs, parents of children and the people of the village. The ribbon-cutting was done by Vice Sarpanch Mrs.Homli Bai in the presence of Mrs. Santoshi Meena, Block coordinator of Mabadi Kendra. Another organization was also present at the time and their motive was to promote cleanliness. They were there only for about 20minutes. The organization distributed the chocolates and all the wrappers were casually throw by the crowd. It was only a few children in the crowd that picked the wrappers and put in their pockets. The children I met there had high aspirations and one girl said she wants to be police someday and the other kid Rinku said he wants to be a Doctor and the other said he wants to be an actor. Although children constituted most of the crowd, their words received less attention and even their families made fun of their aspirations. Mrs. Homli Bai, I and Bhupendra made the best efforts to make them realize where they were going wrong. We told them how education coupled with agriculture could lead to lots of innovation and that innovation has taken civilization forward. We urged the people gathered to make the best use of the installed system and learn as much as they could. I gave them the example of how it takes 6-7 months of hard work to harvest wheat and it would be necessary for them to devote certain time in education to see how powerful knowledge can be. Parents have agreed to send their daughters and sons to schools. We wrapped the inauguration event at around 12:10 PM and took a break. I started the training session 1 from 12:30 PM. Some changes were made in the participants. We had 8 people sitting in the beginning. Mrs. Lakshmi, C&C was also among the participants, 1 woman and 1 man left after session 1. We had Mr. Homaram Meena replace the man. Mr. Homaram Meena also has done his BA and desires to work for the government. The participants included: 1) Ms. Ramola Kumari 2) Ms. Uddi Kumari 3) Mr. Narayan Lal Meena 4) Mr. Homaram Meena 5) Mrs. Lakshmi Kumari Meena The village has few youths who have studied and a few of them have moved to neighboring cities for work. Girls are married earlier, and they remain in their village knowing little about the outside world. Some are not even aware that the earth is moving around the sun and not the other way. They all drop out by 8th standard and look after animals taking them far distances for food and fodder. They do this every day under the sharp sun of Rajasthan. For most daughters of the village, there is nothing beyond the mountains. Our C&C, Mrs. Lakshmi is the few among the literates that are pursuing their BA too.
  • 44. Ms. Uddi Kumari did not understand how to take the pre-assessment but the rest showed some understanding of the concepts of electricity after I told them. The pre-assessment was discussion type as the participants found it difficult to understand the questions. I made had made groups of 2 and I and Mrs. Lakshmi helped the 2 groups understand the questions and find the answers for it. I covered the session 1 and 2 before we took a break at 2:30 PM. I covered all the topics, and some responded well, even to tougher concepts. The session 3 was completely practical and I gave them the Cleo unit to operate, look for input changes and output changes when connected to the device. Some learned how long the device could be connected and how to find out what device can be plugged by looking at the technical specifications given behind every device. I gave them the post-assessment after revising many times. Expect Ms. Uddi Kumari and Ms. Ramola Kumari everyone took the test and have achieved fairly well. I asked the 2 women, who have only studied until 8th standard and are already married, to attend the supplementary classes conducted in Anganwadi and to be aware of current news and to pick on reading and to be confident. They have said yes, and they also said their families would help them study. I left Deoliya at around 4:00 PM and reached Salumber at around 5:10 PM and concluded my day. Anganwadi Kendra, Dholiya where we have installed the Cleo and computer system.

  • 46. Photographs of the launch event at Dholiya ALH Stills of the training event at Dholiya ALH 3rd March 2020 I started my day at 9:00 AM and together with Mr. Nirbhay left for Baran. The road to Baran is just splendid and the place is surrounded by mountains from all sides. Baran is 22Km from Salumber and the primary government school is located at a beautiful location. When we reached around 10:30 AM, the school had already commenced, and the students were in their classes. The installed room was already cleaned and only 4 students were seated in the class writing multiplication table on their own. The school also has rhymes, quotes, poster stories stuck on the walls. The school also has a projector and the children were learning from computers on their own. I saw class 3 children reciting numbers after the computer. The school is for students until the 5th standard. The students are very bright and are introduced to English grammar from class 2. I interacted with the school children while MS. Shanti Meena and Mr. Nirbhay were involved in Mobilization. By 11:10 AM, there were around 35-40 people and it included parents of teachers, teachers, little kids, and the participants of the training event. The ribbon-cutting was done by Mr. Kaluji Meena, Wardpanch in the presence of Ms. Kavita Chaubisa, Block coordinator of SSA (Sarva Sikshan Abhiyan) Nirbhay introduced the objectives of the day and the mission of RE: Pragati. I further told them about us and urged parents to kindly send their children to school. Mrs. Kavitha also has a great passion for teaching and addressed the same issues and asked the gathering to
  • 47. make the best use of the installed system. We wrapped the launch event by around 11:50 AM and took a break. The children in the school had high energy and great interest to learn. Some of the 2nd standard students knew 15 multiplication tables. The school has offered them a place to study even in the night. Anybody interested can stay and make use of the apparatus at school even after school hours. They have a wide variety of storybooks, puzzles, games, Audio, and video learning material. This school would look like a private school for someone visiting the first time. It gave me memories of my school days. The training session started at around 12:10 PM and the participants of the training program included: 1) Ms. Shanti Meena 2) Ms. Kesar Kumari 3) Mr. Damodar Meena 4) Mr. Mukesh Kumar Meena 5) Mr. Prakash Meena 6) Mr. Bheru Lal Meena 7) Mr. Bansi Lal Meena 8) Mr. Jagadish Kumar 9) Mr. Maneesh Kumar Meena 10) Mr. Rahul Meena Most candidates abovementioned, are school children aged between 1 3to 15yrs. Many others attended the training, but only the above mentioned took both the pre and post- assessments. I had given them the pre-assessment test after explaining some basics and almost all of them had a score above 50%. Session 1 had about 25 people including youth above 18 and school children. After session 1, at 1:20 PM the school took a lunch break. Session 1 included the basics of electricity. I believed teaching fundamentals first before showing them the Cleo unit was necessary. These were small children and they grasped things easily and the healthy competitiveness between them was enough to put a lot of things into them in a short span. I repeated the concepts many times, made them explain it, so they remember and can communicate the same to others. This included topics such as atoms, cells, renewable energy, non-renewable energy, pollution, global warming, etc. Session 2 began after the lunch break. The youths above 18 and I had discussed session 1 again during the school lunch hour. In session 2, 2nd and third standard kids were excluded. Session 2 had all concepts on calculating power, AC and DC, shading of the solar panel. Even this session to my surprise was very well taken by the children. They gave answers to even the toughest questions. Their fundamentals of mathematics were very strong. After another short break, we resumed session 3 with many activities and games. They operated the Cleo units and understood when to press DC and AC and how to see the input changes and output changes. The kids were making notes on their own too. I had also made use of the laptop as well as the whiteboard in the classroom. This was the first time in all the training sessions that participants had made notes of without me telling them. After a lot of practice and revision, I handed the post-assessment test at around 4:10 PM. most have a score of above 60%, with school children performing better. I urged everyone to come to school, bring their sisters to school as well. They have said yes, and they also love to
  • 48. come to school as well. For them the school is everything and it's a place where they spend most of their hours in a day. I have told them to chase their dreams and to practice every day. I also had the opportunity to eat the school made food and it was tasted delicious. We thanked everyone for their efforts to attend the class, for letting us have the launch event and the training event. We left Baran with a lot of hope. We reached Salumber at around 5:20 PM and I wrapped my day. Anganwadi Kendra and the primary school at Baran where the Cleo and computer system has been installed. • 51. Photographs of the launch and training event at Baran ALH 4th March 2020 Starting the day at 9:00 AM on 4th March 2020, having to cover two places, we left for Malpur first. We reached Malpur at around 10:40 AM. We had earlier had the launch event and training here too on the 27th Feb 2020. We had to redo both the events. The place is around 10Km from Salumber and the unit is installed at the Panchayat office right opposite the school at Malpur. The school has students from class 1 to class 5. At the time we had reached, Ms. Rupi, C&C was the only person at the Panchayat office. The locks of the Panchayat office had to be opened every time for someone to access the installed system.
  • 52. Mr. Bhupendra and Ms. Rupi did the mobilization. It was also very difficult for them to mobilize as most People were involved in other activities. We had also prepared the Panchayat office for the launch and training event and by 10:50 PM, there were around 40 people and included parents of children, children, women of the Malpur and some men from the village who had heard about the event from us. Teachers from the opposite school had also come to the launch event. The ribbon-cutting was done by Mr. Narendra pal Meena, Sarpanch of Malpur and Mr. Gopal Meena, Block coordinator, Mabadi Kendra, Salumber. We addressed the gathering, speaking to them about the importance of Renewables, our initiative and mission. The launch event was concluded with a vote of thanks after the addressing by both the ward panch and Mr. Gopal Meena. We started the training event after the launch event by 12:10 PM, I did not discuss the session 1 and 2 as the participants had little understanding of concepts about electricity. I only explained to them about Renewables and the operation of the Cleo units. It was completely a practical session on how to operate, maintain and troubleshoot the device. I also explained some computer fundamentals as they wanted to learn how to operate the system too. There were 6 participants in total, 2 women and 4 men, all above the age of 18 years. 2 men had only education until the 8th standard. The rest have an education until the 12th standard. Among the participants was also Ms. Rupi, C&C. They were confident to take the post- assessment test after the revision of the concepts. The participants have done fairly well in the test with an average score of 9.6 out of 14. The participants included: 1) Ms. Mamatha Kumari Damor 2) Mr. Shankar Lal 3) Ms. Roopi 4) Mr. PrahaldSinha Meena 5) Mr. Kevaram Meena 6) Mr. Kaniyya Lal Meena From there we left by 2:10 PM to Morilla which is only 2 km from Malpur. C&C Mrs. Lakshmi had assembled the participants at the Anganwadi at Morilla. We had 9 participants in the training event. Most participants were of the age 14-16 pursuing their 8th standard and 3 of the participants had even participated in the training event conducted on 27th February at Malpur. The older participants were able to effectively communicate what they had learned to the newer and much younger participants. I made groups of 3, containing 1 older participant in each. This way, the younger participants also absorbed the topics very well. I also revised the same topics again before I introduced them to the device. The children were very sharp and had great interest to learn. They were not familiar with mobile phones too and this was an advantage as they showed interest in the basics. Participants included: 1) Mrs. Lakshmi
  • 53. 2) Mr. Narayan Lal 3) Mr. Ramesh Lal 4) Mr. Kechu Lal 5) Mr. Narendra 6) Ms. Ganga 7) Ms. Basanti 8) Mr. Parkash 9) Ms. Krishna I conducted the final session and concluded it by 4:45 PM. Two older participants had exams too, so I wrapped the session early. The final session was the longest with extensively practical with scenario method of learning concepts. The children were very confident in handling the device and also gave the right answer all the time. They also took post- assessment with much confidence. Although they have answered a few things wrong, the key concepts I believe have been strongly received by them. The little girl MS. Krishna who watched and was with us during the event also took the post-assessment test. The participants also stayed for a tiny computer session, I briefed them a bit about operating, switching on and off the device, cursor movements, and keyboard functions. All through the event, they had asked me to teach how to operate the computer. I left them wishing luck. They all have their dreams for the future, and I am very certain they will accomplish it. I return to Salumber by 5:20 PM. With this, I had completed all the training events at Salumber: Baran, Morilla, Anjani, Aggad, Devaliya, Deoliya, and Malpur. Baran was the most interesting of all. It showed me how strong basic education could influence one's interest in learning. The school would also use the computers installed for learning with immediate use. The computer has certain installation issues and did not restart. We could not contact Mr. Satish regarding this as there was no network on the day too. Overall, Salumber has surely developed a great inclination towards learning. Villages like Anjani close to Karawali and Morilla, close to Salumber are some examples. Other villages will also eventually pick up. Our efforts here will truly benefit them if they use the apparatus wisely and cautiously. I have experienced a new world in these tiny villages over the past days. I am thankful to Mr. Bhupendra and Mr. Nirbhay for their efforts in the training program too. With this, I had completed all the 14 training sessions, at both Dungarpur and Salumber. In Salumber, all the ALH's had been installed with Cleo units and computer units. One computer in Baran has a faulty computer with a software issue. All the other computers and Cleo units are functional, and all the adapter have also been fitted into the Cleo unit. Cleo unit charges at the rate of 120-140watt/hour during peak time.

Participants of the training event at Morilla ALH 5th March 2020 I stayed back in Salumber on the day and made the travel to Salumber the following day. 6th,7th, and 8th March 2020 On the 6th March 2020, starting my day at 9:00 AM, I left for Dungarpur from Salumber. First, I took a shared auto to Aspur and then got on a bus to Dungarpur. I checked into Hotel RamNiwas and after freshening up, I left for Simalwada and reached by 2:00 PM and walked to the ASC at Simalwada next to the Bombay Hotel. Mr. Janmejaya was waiting for me at the time. The Cleo unit at the ASC, at the time, was charging and the output values also changed when the system was connected to a computer or mobile phone. We connected the device to the phone and let the battery drain, disconnecting it from the solar charging. We left for Mormoudi from there, and, reached Mormoudi by shared auto at around 3:30 PM. We got the keys to Anganwadi from Mr. Ramlal. I checked the device for its charging and discharging. Input and output are functioning, and the units are charging. At around 3:50 PM, input was 90W. The mobile phone draws around 7W DC and the computer draws around 70W AC when connected. From there, we headed to Simalwada ASC back again and rechecked the Cleo unit, the unit was fully functional and was also charging. We took a shared jeep back to Dungarpur and reached back around 7:10 PM. On the 7th March 2020, I had gone early to the Dungarpur office, after collecting keys from Mr. Janmejaya. The installed Cleo unit was fully functional and was charging too. At 8:00 AM the input was around 80W. The sun was sharp at this time and by noon the input would vary anywhere between 120-140W. All the Cleo units above mentioned have also been fitted with 2 European to Indian adapters. The system at the office at Dungarpur has not been connected to any computer from its AC plug point. With this, I had completed all the tasks allocated to me. After having the approval to return to HO, I boarded on the bus to Udaipur from Dungarpur. From Udaipur, I took a bus to Jaipur, and finally the Bus to Delhi and reached Delhi on the 8th of March 2020.
  • 57. It was a wonderful time in Rajasthan, learning about the cultures, traditions and eating habits. I made a lot of friends during the trip. Dungarpur and Salumber are both cities full of potential and are changing rapidly. These places could someday be the cultural hubs of Rajasthan attracting a lot of tourists from outside India. I believe I was able to communicate to them what I had learned in the past years. I also believe that we as a team were able to inspire them and instill in them the importance of education. The installed Cleo unit and computer system would most certainly help a lot of youth in accomplishing their dreams. In the generation of computers and technology, it is also a necessity for the people we have trained to update, adapt and move forward. I sincerely thank all the field staff and the people who helped us during the launch and training events. ASC, Simalwada
