Chapter One: Introduction
1. Background of the study
Internship program has become the bridge for those who want to enter to
corporate level from the University life, through internship I got to know the
real working environment. The student gets the chance to work closely with
the people of an Organization and learn about the punctuality,
Responsibilities and Corporate culture of that Organization. It also allows
students to harness the skill, knowledge, and theoretical practice they learnt
in university. The great thing about internships is that it teaches young
professionals about the specific industries and companies they are interested
in. Even the experience of trying something new is extremely beneficial.
1.2 Objectives of the study :
1. To analysis the general banking activities of Pubali Bank Limited,
Sitakunda Branch,Chittagong.
2. To analysis the performance of general banking operations.
3. To find out the problems (if any) relating to the general banking activities
of Pubali Bank Limited, Sitakunda Branch, Chittagong.
4. To recommend some suggestions based on findings.
1.3 Methodology of the study :
The methodology of the study has been designed in the following ways:
The primary data has been collected in the following ways:
▪ Direct communication with clients
▪ Sharing the experience and knowledge of my colleagues.
The secondary data has been collected in the following ways:
▪ Annual report of Pubali Bank Ltd.
▪ Website of Pubali Bank Ltd.
1.4 Limitations :
▪ The time frame, Three months, is insufficient to know all activities of the
Branch and prepare the report.
▪ It was difficult to collect the information From various personnel for Their
job constraint.
▪ Lack of experience as I had no experience of internship. So experience is
one of the main constraints of the study.
▪ Omissions and error may be there due to lack of my prior experience in
preparing a professional report like this one; nevertheless I Have tried
utmost to avoid mistake.

Pubali bank limited is a leading private commercial Bank. Which started Pubali bank
limited is a reputed private commercial bank established on May 20,1984. Open the
branch at 26 Dilkusha commercial area (local office) p.sMotijheel district Dhaka. within
very short period of time it has been able to create an image for itself and has earned
significant reputation in the country’s banking sector as a bank of vision. presently it has
486 branches, General and competitive banking service to its clients.

3. Introduction
General banking department performs the core functions of bank, operates day-to-day
transactions of banking operation. Every day it receives deposits from customers and
meets their demand for cash . It opens new accounts, remits customer’s money from one
place to another through issuing bank draft, pay order, telegraphic transfer, collects all bill
like Local cheque collection, Inward bill collection and outward bill collection for
customers. Since bank is bound to provide these services every day, General banking is
also known as retail banking.
3.1 Functions of General banking :
The specific functions of general banking are as follows:
▪ Establishing of banker-customer relationship through account opening.
▪ Dispatching customer’s money from one place to another.
▪ Taking deposits.
▪ Honoring cheques.
▪ Clearing cheques.

3.2.1 General banking operations of Pubali bank limited, Sitakunda
Branch, Chittagong :
As far as Pubali Bank Ltd is concerned, it is one of the top in all-domestic commercial
banks in Bangladesh. Pubali Bank Ltd. extends all the Banking facilities and services to
customer. The Bank has a very wide network of activities and Services both in urban and
rural areas through its 486 branches all over the country.
However, Pubali Bank Ltd- Sitakunda branch works with mostly all banking operations,
which are normally performed by every commercial bank.
It has basically following departments under which it operates all functions of bank
diligently.
These are mainly :
• Remittances department
• Clearing department
• Accounts department
• Cash department
• Credit department

4. Introduction
From the beginning of the branch, it shows positive trends of it’s No. Of accounts, Rising
Deposits amounts and good profits also. The year wise no. Of Accounts, Deposit amounts and
growth rates are shown Below with the table and graphical representations.

Chapter Five: Findings, Recommendations and Conclusion
5.1 Findings
During internship period in Pubali Bank Limited at Sitakunda Branch, following problems
are identified:
▪ The number of CD & SND A/C increasing sharply during the year 2015 to 2019 . The
growth rate were positive during the year 2016-2018 , the percentage just fall short in
2019 from previous year.
▪ Majority percentage of deposit found in FDR & Savings during 2015 to 2019 .In
2015,2018 & 2019 the majority percentage of deposit found in FDR which were
51.59%,43.49% & 41% respectively . In 2016,2017 the majority percentage of share
found in Savings which were 41.86% & 46.75% respectively.
5.1 Continuous..
▪ Profit is the main part of earnings on banking business. But the branch failed to
maintain positive growth rate in last five years except in 2018,which was of profit was
152.94%. In 2016,2017 & 2018 the growth rate were 26.21%,-36.445% & -14.07%
respectively. After
▪ fall of growth rate in two consecutive year branch managed to earn positive growth
rate in 2018 but the rate again fall in 2019.
▪ Remittance is very high in recent years. Negative growth rate found 2016 which was -
8.34% ;but after that branch was successful in maintaining a sharp positive growth rate.
The growth rate were 0.93%,47.41% & 35.86% in 2017,018 & 2019 respectively.
▪ The branch is very much successful in keeping a positive progress in the number of FDR
accounts during the year 2015 to 2019.In 2016 the growth rate was 17.65%.The rate
then slightly fall in 2016 which was -5%.After that by taking proper measures the rate
increase to 194% & 87.50% in 2018 & 2019 respectively. .
▪ Lack of manpower slows down to provide better services to its clients.
5.2 Recommendations
In view of the facts, the following recommendations are made to the respective
concerned for their consideration and implementation:
▪ The branch needs to take some initiative so that higher authority allow them to
sanction a certain limit of loan amount when the clients require the loan within a short
time and by doing this it can earn clients reliability and trust. In the future these loyal
clients may do vast businesses with the bank.
▪ The bank may take the initiative measures to keep balance among deposit amounts.
This Will help to redeem the dependency on FDR and Savings amounts.
▪ By avoiding unnecessary expenditures may help the Bank to keep harmony in gaining
profit.
▪ The Bank should introduce prime rate for the best customers which will attract the
good customers. It is observed that sometimes irregular clients got facilities instead a
regular customer who does not get necessary facility.
5.2 Continuous…
▪ General banking division should be divided into more sections because in General
banking division there are five sections which are directly related with customer. To
improve service for their clients bank should increase number of employees in general
banking division to provide better services. Bank should improve personal relationship
with their client through a well-structured general banking division.
▪ Pubali Bank should decrease the initial deposit amount of current account for better
customer satisfaction..
▪ Pubali Bank Limited needs more reception corner, which will provide all types of
▪ information. Sometimes customers face problem. If they will get the right information
at right time they will feel better.
5.3 Conclusion
Banks play an active role for the development of the country. Pubali Bank Ltd has made
commendable improvement over the past years. I am proud to get an opportunity to
continue my internee and my career in my organization. I tried to gather experience in
General Banking and summarize all the information within the report. It will also be
helpful for the bank management if they carefully analyze the problem and consider
recommendation in this paper and take necessary actions for corrective measures.
General Banking is one of the main departments of any bank. To take any banking
services, one has to fulfill all the requirements of this department first. The nature of the
relationship between a banker and a customer depends upon the service rendered by the
personnel of general banking department. General Banking department usually give
optimum services to their customers though they have some limitations. If the
management of the bank can turn these limitations positively then they can attain the
ultimate goal. I am certain that the experience that I got through my internship in Pubali
Bank will help me a lot in my future banking profession.

Chapter Five: Findings, Recommendations and Conclusion 5.1 Findings During internship period in Pubali Bank Limited at Sitakunda Branch, following problems are identified: ▪ The number of CD & SND A/C increasing sharply during the year 2015 to 2019 . The growth rate were positive during the year 2016-2018 , the percentage just fall short in 2019 from previous year. ▪ Majority percentage of deposit found in FDR & Savings during 2015 to 2019 .In 2015,2018 & 2019 the majority percentage of deposit found in FDR which were 51.59%,43.49% & 41% respectively . In 2016,2017 the majority percentage of share found in Savings which were 41.86% & 46.75% respectively.
  • 27. 5.1 Continuous.. ▪ Profit is the main part of earnings on banking business. But the branch failed to maintain positive growth rate in last five years except in 2018,which was of profit was 152.94%. In 2016,2017 & 2018 the growth rate were 26.21%,-36.445% & -14.07% respectively. After ▪ fall of growth rate in two consecutive year branch managed to earn positive growth rate in 2018 but the rate again fall in 2019. ▪ Remittance is very high in recent years. Negative growth rate found 2016 which was - 8.34% ;but after that branch was successful in maintaining a sharp positive growth rate. The growth rate were 0.93%,47.41% & 35.86% in 2017,018 & 2019 respectively. ▪ The branch is very much successful in keeping a positive progress in the number of FDR accounts during the year 2015 to 2019.In 2016 the growth rate was 17.65%.The rate then slightly fall in 2016 which was -5%.After that by taking proper measures the rate increase to 194% & 87.50% in 2018 & 2019 respectively. . ▪ Lack of manpower slows down to provide better services to its clients.
  • 28. 5.2 Recommendations In view of the facts, the following recommendations are made to the respective concerned for their consideration and implementation: ▪ The branch needs to take some initiative so that higher authority allow them to sanction a certain limit of loan amount when the clients require the loan within a short time and by doing this it can earn clients reliability and trust. In the future these loyal clients may do vast businesses with the bank. ▪ The bank may take the initiative measures to keep balance among deposit amounts. This Will help to redeem the dependency on FDR and Savings amounts. ▪ By avoiding unnecessary expenditures may help the Bank to keep harmony in gaining profit. ▪ The Bank should introduce prime rate for the best customers which will attract the good customers. It is observed that sometimes irregular clients got facilities instead a regular customer who does not get necessary facility.
  • 29. 5.2 Continuous… ▪ General banking division should be divided into more sections because in General banking division there are five sections which are directly related with customer. To improve service for their clients bank should increase number of employees in general banking division to provide better services. Bank should improve personal relationship with their client through a well-structured general banking division. ▪ Pubali Bank should decrease the initial deposit amount of current account for better customer satisfaction.. ▪ Pubali Bank Limited needs more reception corner, which will provide all types of ▪ information. Sometimes customers face problem. If they will get the right information at right time they will feel better.
  • 30. 5.3 Conclusion Banks play an active role for the development of the country. Pubali Bank Ltd has made commendable improvement over the past years. I am proud to get an opportunity to continue my internee and my career in my organization. I tried to gather experience in General Banking and summarize all the information within the report. It will also be helpful for the bank management if they carefully analyze the problem and consider recommendation in this paper and take necessary actions for corrective measures. General Banking is one of the main departments of any bank. To take any banking services, one has to fulfill all the requirements of this department first. The nature of the relationship between a banker and a customer depends upon the service rendered by the personnel of general banking department. General Banking department usually give optimum services to their customers though they have some limitations. If the management of the bank can turn these limitations positively then they can attain the ultimate goal. I am certain that the experience that I got through my internship in Pubali Bank will help me a lot in my future banking profession.
