To whom it may concern:
It is my pleasure to recommend Jay Sinchury Shah for employment. Mr.
Shah has served as a work study employee (fall semester) and then as an intern
(spring semester) for the Kansas City Kansas Community College Adult Basic
Education, English as a Second Language program. He has assisted during the
evening, when we have six classrooms with a total enrollment of 120 students.
Throughout the year he has been dependable, courteous, and quick to undertake
whatever tasks are assigned to him. In addition, he has been imaginative about
anticipating what he might do to help teachers and students.
Mr. Shah’s duties have been various. He worked first semester as a
receptionist in our front office. He kept the office neat, and he organized the
supply cabinet. Jay applied his experience as a restaurant server in offering a
high level of “customer service” when working with teachers, students, and
visitors. He was excellent at making new students feel welcome and at
answering inquiries about the program from first-time visitors. I have often
observed his friendly, helpful interactions with students of all levels of English
competency.
During the spring semester, Mr. Shah has assisted students in the
computer lab and has fixed problems with the computers. His most demanding
project this spring has been cataloguing the books in our resource room and
packing them so they can be moved to our new location. He completed a
spreadsheet with bibliographic information for three hundred different titles,
noting the multiple copies of many of those titles. He carried out this project
with little oversight, quickly and accurately.
Mr. Shah has expressed his ambition to make a significant contribution to
his new country, the United States of America. He says that the opportunities
that have been offered to him here inspire him to respond with generosity and
hard work. Those qualities have been demonstrated consistently in his work for
the KCKCC ABE ESL program.
Sincerely,
Susan L. Wilcox

Note: While he has worked for us, Mr. Shah has been known as Sha Kami, but,
on attaining US Citizenship, he changed his name to Jay Sinchury Shah.
