2. Media Presentations- Text
According to (Smaldino 2012) “text is everywhere in student’s learning
experiences. Text materials include textbooks, fiction and notification books,
newspapers, booklets, computer screen, magazines, study guides, manuals and
worksheets as well as words processed documents prepared by students and
teachers.”
3. Advantages of Media Presentation – Text
Text based materials can be carried from area to area without much difficulty.
It can be user friendly allowing everyone to gain access to the text without much
effort. Text based materials comes in a wide variety, and the type of text is chosen
by the individual using it. There are different learners, and their learning style
determines their choice of material.
4. Disadvantages of Media Presentation - Text
We must take into consideration that many students are nonreaders and they
read because it is a requirement for the lesson. Some text introduces a large
number of vocabulary which can be a burden for some students. Some
teachers may even require their students to memorize parts of the text in
order for the lesson to be completed.
5. Integration of Media Presentation – Text
According to (Smaldino 2012)” the most common application of text materials is
presenting information.” There are many ways information can be presented.
Teachers can create handouts, provide magazines or even select articles from
journals, these can be delivered to their students for the lesson to be learnt in an
easier manner. It is important that teachers consider the best way to present the
text material. The type of fonts, attractive patterns or diagrams and the
arrangement of the text must be considered and suitable for the students.
6. Standard 3
General Science
Pollution
Objective – At the end of the class discussion the teacher can provide handouts with
diagrams of pollution, tips about preventing pollution and the effects pollution has
on the environment.
The teacher will provide handouts with a diagram of the ocean. The ocean would be
polluted by bottles, bags, old rubbish. The handout would then show a turtle eating
a plastic bag, thinking it was food. A few days late the turtle would be on the shore
dead because of the intake of the plastic bag.
Decoding Activity
The teacher will ask students to draw pictures of the ocean, pollutants, and what the
pollutants is affecting.
The students can draw oil being spill from a boat into the ocean, the fishes would
not be able to come to the surface for air because of the layer of oil, the pictures can
show how the fishes die and even the plants in the ocean.
Encoding Activity
The teacher can use a power point slide to demonstrate the sequence of events
taking place in order for pollution to occur.
