Can iq be increased?
1. Can IQ Be Increased?
They Didn’t Think I Could Do Well at School Until I turned Into A-student
and Graduated From The Most Coveted Schools of My Country
Once upon a time, back in 1994, I was playing with my little brother and sister in the
backyard. As we’re playing, I heard in my back someone called me. I turned, and saw it was
my aunt, Laurette, coming toward me, and waving her right hand in the air, holding a paper.
“I have got the result of your final exam,” she said. Smiling.
Two weeks ago, I attended the final exam of sixth grade, and, I was waiting for the results.
“Give me the paper, give me the paper.” I was asking her. Smiling. Very excited. She gave
me the paper…When I saw the result, the smile disappeared from my face. I read 45/160.
I had failed at the exam. I felt the earth opened beneath my feet. I couldn’t stand on my feet
anymore. I went in a corner of the backyard, and I sat. And I started to think about what had
just happened to me.
“Why I failed?” I wondered. Firstly, I blamed my dad who was assigned to another city in the
beginning of the school year. Then I blamed my mum who didn’t make me study my lessons.
Finally, I blamed my little uncle, Cedric, who was making me play marbles before, between,
and after classes. I failed because of them. All of them.
I kept on that way…blaming everything under the sun. Then, as I became calmer, another
question popped up in my mind, “how I failed?” I wondered. That’s when I realized one
thing: during classes, I was not concentrated. Thinking of something else. I was playing
marbles before, during, and after classes… Finally, in the evening, I was watching TV...until I
fell asleep.
And I realized I was responsible for my failure. That’s why I decided, if I were to ever fail
again, there would be nobody to blame, but me. From then on, I would be the only
responsible for my results.
The following year, for unknown reasons, I turned into an A-student, and I passed the sixth
grade exam. Then, the junior high school final exam and, as I did, I was assigned to High
School of Science of Yamoussoukro, the most coveted high school of my country. Only
people considered geniuses were assigned to it; I concluded someone, somewhere, mistakenly
assigned me there. Lucky! I did go to that school, and I did well, and was assigned to National
Polytechnic Institute Felix Houphouet-Boigny of Yamoussoukro, the most coveted college of
my country. Another lucky mistake! And I got my engineer degree in informatics science
from there. Lucky again!
As I looked back, and tried to figure out how one least likely to succeed, like me, came to
achieve the performance I went to achieve, I could find only one answer: the promise I made
to myself back in 1994 when I failed at my sixth grade exam:
2. “And I realized I was responsible for my failure. That’s why I decided, if I were to ever fail
again, there would be nobody to blame, but me. From then on, I’d be the only responsible of
my results.”
That’s how I discovered the magic that comes from taking responsibility for one’s result.
Now a reader may wonder, “can IQ be really increased?”
Well, I will answer this question, in a moment. But before, let’s consider the picture below:
I took the MENSA Test which measures IQ. And I didn’t pass it. I didn’t fail either. They just
told me that my IQ is above what the test can measure. That really intrigued me. “How come,
I wondered, how come a student who got 45/160 at the sixth grade exam, and failed, could be
said that his IQ is above what a MENSA Test can measure?” So, I assumed someone made a
mistake, a lucky mistake! As MENSA members make up less than 2% of the entire population.
