Employee Life Cycle
The employee life cycle (ELC) is an HR model that tracks a worker's whole
career at a company. It begins the moment a potential employee learns
about your company and continues until the day they leave. Aside from
recruitment and compliance management, the ELC examines onboarding
and retention, career development, and the whole employee experience
during their time with you.
Once you understand how to engage with your workers at every step of the
employee life cycle, you'll be able to recruit and retain the best candidates
while improving your company's overall performance.
Importance Of Employee Life Cycle
For a variety of reasons, the employee life cycle model is critical. The most
important benefit is that it motivates you to evaluate and improve the
employee experience at every stage of the process.
And the more positive an employee's experience with your company is, the
more likely they will stay. This improves employee retention while also
lowering turnover and associated costs.
You may focus on enhancing the experience at each step of an employee's
journey with you if you understand the employee life cycle. You may also
construct learning and development programs to assist your employees in
reaching their maximum potential.
All of this helps to improve your employer's reputation. Consequently, you'll
be able to hire top talent and build a loyal and committed workforce.
Employee Life Cycle Stages
1. Attraction - The first stage of the employee life cycle is employee
attraction. Your firm will fail if outstanding talent is not acquired and
retained, regardless matter how unique or unforgettable your product or
service is. As a result, the attraction stage is an essential part of every
organization's growth strategy.
The attraction phase can take numerous shapes depending on whether or
not they are already familiar with your company. If this is the case, they are
likely to have a predetermined impression of your company and will seek
further information to confirm it.
2. Employee recruitment - The employee recruitment stage is the second
stage of the employee life cycle, and it is during this stage that you look for
and hire the best people to join your company. Recruitment may occur due
to a vacant position or the formation of an entirely new role. The best
recruitment techniques offer a positive application experience, foster
collaborative hiring based on specified criteria and processes, and provide
valuable data that can be used to improve hiring results over time.
3. Onboarding - After an employee is hired, the HR staff must ensure that
the onboarding process is as easy as possible. It should be obvious to the
new employee when their first day will be, what to anticipate from their first
day and week, what sort of training will be provided, the expectations of
their position, and what documentation must be completed before
beginning work.
During the onboarding step, new workers learn more about their job and
identify the attitudes, knowledge, skills, and behaviors necessary to
perform effectively inside the business.
4. Development - Learning and development may be an excellent way to
improve your company's abilities while also maintaining your employees –
and therefore boosting your employee life cycle.
5. Retention - The fifth step of the employee life cycle model is employee
retention. Focus your efforts here on keeping your finest employees and
ensuring they are satisfied and challenged in their roles within the team.
Business culture has a big effect at this time. If your company's culture
could be better, you'll have a high rate of people turnover, which means
you'll have to deal with replacement costs regularly. Improving retention is
an excellent method to limit this risk while also encouraging longevity and
satisfaction in your team's career paths.
6. Separation - Employee separation is the last stage in the employee life
cycle. Job lifecycles for most employees will finish at some point, whether
due to retirement, new employment, or personal reasons.

plan for each step of an employee's interactions with your company. It gives
you the information you need to make each stage of your time with your
