1. Philosophy of Education
I absolutely believe that not every child learns in exactly the same way because each child is
unique and has their own learning styles. It is the job of the teacher to find the ways in which
their students learn best and build their lessons around that. The teacher should strive to
develop as many different approaches to teaching as they possibly can because there are so
many different ways of learning. I don't think there is only one way to teach that is correct
and I don't think that a teacher should get too comfortable with teaching in just one particular
way.
As I finish my classes and think about becoming a teacher, I can say with absolute
certainty that I want to be that teacher that keeps pushing for new ideas and keeps an open
mind to new approaches and techniques. I never want my students to miss out on a true
learning opportunity because I was too stuck in teaching in one kind of way to one kind of
learner. I believe that one of the best ways to ensure that your students are gaining
everything they can from their education is to actually get to know your students. A teacher
will never know a childs true individual learning style until they know the students
individually. Each child has their own story, their own problems, their own strengths, and
their own weaknesses and I believe that, as a teacher, it is my responsibility to know these
things and find a way to make it all work for the children.
I believe that children learn best through doing. Hands-on activities have so many
more learning opportunities than reading about it from a book and then taking a test on it. I
think that students should actually be involved in what they're learning and applying it in
order for them to gain as much as they possibly can from it. I would much rather for my
students to show me how something works than to answer a question about it on a random
test that they will never refer back to. Children make so many more connections with the
2. material when they're involved with it and applying it towards something.
