This is the launch issue of our USA National Pavilion newsletter. We plan to use this medium to
share USA National Pavilion developments on an ongoing basis.

News
Shortly after assuming office, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton decided to give high
priority to USA participation in the Shanghai World Expo. In addition to sending letters of
endorsement to a number of leading US‐China trade organizations, Secretary Clinton has
assembled a group of senior State Department officials who are actively supporting the USA
National Pavilion team's planning and public outreach efforts. Thank you, Madam Secretary!
GE has joined the USA National Pavilion effort as a Founding Sponsor. GE will prominently
showcase its “Ecomagination” initiative in the Pavilion through an array of environmentally
friendly products in the categories of energy generation, water treatment, lighting and electrical
distribution systems, security systems, medical diagnostic imaging, and locomotive and aircraft
engines. With this announcement, GE joins our ever‐growing group of sponsors, which to date
includes 3M, Dell, and the USA‐China Education, Science & Culture Association.

Events
Nick Winslow and Norm Elder met with the new Consul ‐General of China in Los Angeles, CA
on May 6 to discuss preparations for the USA National Pavilion.
Former U.S. Consul‐General in Shanghai General Ken Jarrett made a presentation about the USA
National Pavilion to the American Chamber of Commerce in Beijing on May 7.
U.S Consul‐General Bea Camp and Expo Deputy Director Zhou Hanmin joined Ellen Eliasoph and
Frank Lavin in Shanghai on April 24 for a USA National Pavilion briefing for a small group of
senior US corporate executives.

2. The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the PRC Ministry of Commerce
hosted a luncheon briefing in Beijing on April 16 at which Expo Deputy Director Zhou Hanmin,
Ellen Eliasoph and Frank Lavin briefed a small group of senior US corporate executives on Expo
developments and planning for the USA National Pavilion.
The Pavilion
Our design team is including the latest green technologies and materials in the Pavilion.
The Pavilion will feature an organic garden on its roof, and the garden’s produce will help supply
the fine dining facility in the Pavilion’s VIP lounge.
