Advent marks the new year of the Christian

arrival of Jesus Christ.
Advent is a time to celebrate light in the
midst of darkness.
When Advent begins more people start to
prepare for Christmas Day, a festive menu is
planned, gifts are chosen and wrapped, cards
are written and homes are decorated.
4. Advent began in the 5th century on the 11th
of November, which is St Martins Day.
It took the form of a six week fast leading all
the way up to Christmas.
During the 6th Century, however, it was
shortened to its current length and further
down the line, the fasting aspect was
dropped.
