u Domain name is the address of your website
that people type in the browser URL bar to
visit your website.
u In simple terms, if your website was a
house, then your domain name will be its
address.

u A domain is comprised of two elements, including
what comes before and after the dot. What comes
to the right of the dot, such as a “com,” “org,” or
“net,” is what is known as a top-level domain, or
TLD
u The part before the dot is likely the name of your
company, or organization, and is the domain name

website, email, and more.

ICANN, which stands for Internet
Corporation for Assigned Names and
Numbers, is a non-profit organization that
was established in the United States in 1998
and they are the ones who makes the domain
name and distribute to the domain name
registrars.

Anytime you register a domain on the
Internet, you go through a domain name
registrar, who pays a small fee to ICANN to
register your domain as part of the domain
registration process.

u Domains are sold by registrars also known as Domain Name
Registrars.
u There is no single registrar that rules over all domains, but
rather a vast network.
u These registrars can charge whatever they want for a domain,
but each registrar has to pay a set per-domain fee to the
appropriate registry in which the domain is being registered

host your websites on the internet.
u When you use web hosting services, your web host is responsible for making
sure your server is up and running.
u Web Host also prevents any security breaches and store all your files, assets
and databases onto the server.
26. How do we connect a Domain to Hosting
u Domains are connected to Hosting by changing the host names in the DNS
Zone.
u Host Names and DNS can also be managed via either a cPanel or a WHM.
u Cpanel OR Control Panel is provided to users when they opt for a Linux based
hosting.
u WHM or Web Host Manager is provided to user when they opt for a VPS
(Virtual Private Server) or a Dedicated Server

u With the help of cPanel, a user can control administrative tasks of hosting
such as creating a website, creating and managing emails, resetting
passwords, setting mail forwards, managing add-on domains and subdomains,
uploading and managing files etc.
u CPanel is generally accessed using https on port 2083 or simply by adding
“/cpanel” to the end of the host name.

28. WHM or Web Host Manager
u WHM (Web Host Manager) is an administrative access tool for the backend of the
cPanel account.
u With WHM, one can create a cPanel account to avail hosting accounts.
u One can sell hosting services and manage multiple cPanel with the option to
modify, upgrade or even downgrade an account and monitor usage of bandwidth
as well.
u WHM allows users to access DNS zones of all the domains.
u It also allows users to create, delete and suspend cPanel accounts.
u It also allows users to change domain and usernames of clients.
u The WHM portal is mainly accessible through http://IP-address:2086 or
https://IP-address:2087 with “root” as Username and password as the server root
