Moonlighting ?
Employees typically take a second job or side hustle in
addition to their primary jobs Having more than one
job is what it means. Normally, employees embark on
these jobs without informing their main employeers.
Reasons For The Increase In No
of Moonlighters
Many people's financial stability was challenged during the pandemic, and
having a second job was an additional source of income.
The Cost of Living: For many people, especially those living in expensive
cities, holding down two or more jobs is simply a necessity in order to make
ends meet.
Career advancement: In today's competitive job market, employees are often
looking for any edge they can get. Working multiple jobs can help them gain
valuable experience and build their resumes faster.
Personal fulfillment: For some people, working multiple jobs simply provides a
greater sense of personal fulfillment than working a single job. They enjoy the
variety and challenge that comes with holding down multiple positions.
Companies are against of moonlighting because it can be detrimental
to productivity, morale and overall company performance and leakage
of sensitive information The main reason for this is that employees
who moonlight tend to work fewer hours than their coworkers who
do not moonlight. This means they are missing out on the benefits of
full-time employment, such as health care and paid time off. .
Companies like Wipro, TCS, and Infosys are strongly against it.
Wipro’s CEO Rishad Premji even considers moonlighting as cheating.
Infosys also warned its employees against moonlighting as it could
lead to termination of employment
Why Campanies Are
Against Moonlighting ?
• Companies like Tech Mahindra and Swiggy have accepted and encouraged the Moonlighting Culture
• These Companies believe that - It gives employees an opportunity and flexibility to work on projects
they are interested in or think they could do well at. This can improve their performance and increase
the value they bring to their company.
• Companies are starting to realize that independent contractors are more efficient because they work
when they want, how long they want and where they want without the overhead costs associated with
company employees.
