2014 India Auto Expo ‐ Westport and Tata Motors
Feature Alternative Fuel Engines
At the 2014 India Auto Expo this past week in Greater Noida City (near New Delhi), Westport was a featured partner in Tata’s
alternative fuel option display. The event showcases natural gas engine and technology, with about 75,000 visitors attending
each day of the five day long show from February 7 ­ 11.
In addition to Tata, many of India’s major original vehicle manufacturers (OEMs) participated in the Expo, including Mahindra,
Scania, and Eicher.
A just­announced addition to Westport, portfolio, Westport Gas Enhanced Methane Diesel technology – Westport GEMDi™ –
co­developed with Tata Motors, was on display in Tata’s next generation 5L NG Dual­fuel engine.

Targeted for medium­duty trucks and buses in India, GEMDi enables OEMs to offer a fully integrated, high performance
engine optimized for dual fuel operation.
Also on display was a new spark­ignited (SI) natural gas 3.8L turbocharged engine featuring the Westport WP580 Engine
Management System (EMS). Designed to support many engine configurations, the WP580 EMS is expected to feature in
Tata’s 5.7L engine for medium­duty applications, starting in late 2014.
India is one of the world’s largest commercial vehicles markets. Its total annual light­duty vehicle fleet and commercial sales
are projected to reach over 204,000 units in 2014, according to the Natural Gas Vehicles report published by Navigant
Research in June 2013. The country’s total annual medium­ and heavy­duty truck and bus sales are projected to reach over
289,000 units in 2014, according to the Natural Gas Trucks and Buses report published by Navigant Research at the end of
2013.
